Your airbags went off and that is several $thousands right there. Is that included in the $10,500?

Sure looks close to a total to me. I wouldn't want to keep it either. So sorry.

RXE16T 11-25-2004 03:33 AM

Damn that makes me sick seeing an 8 like that.

Straight8 11-25-2004 09:13 AM

That really sucks. Nothing worse than having an idiot hit you in your brand new car. The way your wheels are all bent makes me wonder if the car will ever be the same handling-wise. If you have the ability to collect diminished value on your car I'd definately pursue it if I were in your shoes. Only good thing about this is that you're OK.

Not sure how I'd react if my 8 was damaged that severely. I had a new Mustang GT back in the 80's and my love affair with the car effectively ended after it took $5700 worth of damage to the front end. It was repaired to near perfection, but to me it just wasn't the same....I'm mentally anal. Hope everybody isn't like me ;)

Good luck to you and I hope it all works out in your favor.

Sorry to break it to you .... but they're right. My other car got hit 15 mins after I bought it by a tractor trialer . The car just didn't ride 100% after that.

Just a clarification - CO is no longer a no fault state. I live in Colorado and was rear-ended this summer. Colorado actually voted on the issue and chose to be an at fault state. (Just for the stats, I do have a silver 8.)

Since Colorado is no longer a no fault state, you have to go throught the at fault party's insurance to have your car fixed. This can be good or bad. If you have trouble getting your car fixed, you then go to your insurance company.

So, to a point you are at the mercy of the at fault party's insurance. In my case, the at fault party's insurance was slow in processing the claim, so I was without my car longer than I believe I would have been if I'd filed with my insurance company - as I would have done when CO was an at fault state.

There are pros and cons to no faults states. Supposedly at fault states insurance rates are cheaper, but on the other hand you may have to deal with a cut-corners insurance company to get your car fixed.

I'm still undecided if it is better to be an at-fault or no-fault state. After my experience I'd rather pay an extra $$$ to deal with the insurance company that _I_ picked.

But I think you're right that just making a claim, whether it is your fault or not, in an at-fault or no-fault state, can result in you loosing a discount on your insurance. (Your rates didn't go up, you just lost a discount :-) ).

Just being involved in an accident will cause the insurance to rise in a "no fault" state. I got rear ended in my old maxima, totaled the car, obviously was not my fault and my insurance went up. No fault states suck big time. Sorry to hear about your new 8, if it was my i dont know that I would be able to contain myself from beating the snot out of the guy

Those kind of people that do what you describe are the primary reason all of our insurance rates are so high.... that is just PLAIN WRONG

Think of it this way, we always wondered if we could put gauges on the A-pillar now we know that we can because the curtain airbag deploys from the ceiling.

Sorry.....just trying to put a positive spin on a terrible thing.

wootwoot 12-02-2004 11:32 AM

hope your car is quickly done... so u can get back your car ASAP.... well what happen has happen... try not to brood over it though i know its difficult... but try hard!

Black still looks good...even hurt....

Don't count your Brilliant Black out yet. When I was young I bought a new 83 Dodge Shelby Charger, wasn't long and I got a door ding, that pisses me off cause I'm also "anal that way". But then I let my cousin borrow it and he rear ended some one with it.
I researched on what body shop had the best rep and did the best quality work, (they were usually allways the most expensive) but I could take it where I wanted so I did. Look at the cars they have done and talk to their clientel, see if they are happy with the work.
Door ding fixed, all repainted, happy, except the 3 months to fix. Unfortunantly I took the car to my brothers garage to put all my personal upgrades back on ( stuff the insurance wont cover), where it sat for three nights, then I headed out to go cruise main and didn't make it there before someone run a red light and tagged me in the rear spinning my car around and backwards into and over a curb kind of like the damage you have. Actually bent the body bad enough that it smashed the drivers rear door edge into the body far enough the drivers door wouldn't open, (I got tagged rear passenger side) When I got the car back to the body shop, I walked in and told the shop owner I had a small scratch and wondered if he had some of the paint left over. He about crapped when he seen the car, he had spent alot of time to make it look better than new. Three more months later I had a great car, nicer than new, and no door dings. Couldn't tell a differance from new. (Yea, I know there not much comparison between an 8 and a '83 Shelby Dodge, but I felt as good in it then as do now in my 8)
I guess "keep a happy thought on it all, if you can, humor is always your best defense, find the best repped auto- body shop in your area, don't settle for less, and don't let the "anal brain" deminish your love for your 8, and hopefully all will come out well.

similar thing happened to me, except it happened at night and the 'other guy' was long gone. $3000 in damages, my insurance paid for it and didn't go up as it was not my fault. I love Progressive.

Sorry for your mishap....good luck with getting things taken care of

I would look for a shop that also restores classics. They may not be the cleanist looking shop, but the guys doing the work will know how to make it look original again.
