My 8 Waxed With Consumer Reports #1 Rated Car Wax

5 Attachment(s)
Consumer Reports just recently rated car waxes again. A few years back they had originally rated Zymol as #1. I used Zymol for many years with excellent results on my vivid yellow Protege 5, but when CR rated Zymol a lot worse in the July '06 issue i decided to try their new best pick on my new 8. CR's new pick is Black Magic Wet Shine Liquid Wax. It retails for about $7. I got it at Autozone for a little over $7, but my friends were able to buy it at Home Depot for about $4.60. The wax is amazing. It leaves the surface of the car so smooth and shiney, but their is a downside to the wax....its a pain to get off the car. All in all i agree with CR and highly recomend this wax. Here are a few pics of my car and my friends Mazda 6 after our recent Black Magic application.

Lookin good! I guess that Turtle Wax ICE is now all the rage among some members here. As well as Zaino of course. :D:

lol @ consumer reports ratings... we just had a big disgustion about how inaccurate the info consumer reports gave on the waxes are... check out www.autopia.org .

NgoRX8 06-13-2006 09:26 PM

i still prefer NXT as a better synthetic than ICE. lol

as for CR, can you name a few that were tested?

Haven't tried either one. The last time I waxed it was with Liquid Glass. Great stuff but hard to remove. I'm gonna jump on the Zaino bandwagon on my next round of waxing.

I'm With you....NXT Rocks!!!

It's the only thing that comes close to all taking care of all the swirl marks in my paint

SayNoToPistons 06-13-2006 11:22 PM

NXT's depth is really good but it really lacks clarity. its a really good "go-to" wax though. it looks best on red (topped with #26). there are better things for the price though (like poorboys ex-p for example.)

I picked up the Black Magic Wet Shine Liquid Wax in the fall and have been using it since. Good stuff, but you have to be sure to use a THIN coat. Put too much on and it's a real bear to get off.

On the upside, it looks good and has good durability.

Zaino > Everything else...

HolyCross05 06-14-2006 08:00 AM

Two words, Zaino

lefty63 06-14-2006 08:06 AM

Yea, I waxed mine Velocity red a couple months ago with Black Magic and I agree it looks great, but as previously stated it is a pain to get off. :Eyecrazy:

I Am The Nxt Whore!!!! 122 Coats!!

Raptor2k 06-14-2006 01:14 PM

lol...the best waxes out there don't show up at Autozone or home depot.

If you wanna use up some cash for the best polishes, go with something like Wolfgang sealant and Souveran, for example.

NgoRX8 06-14-2006 01:20 PM

yea im just waiting to order some of that german stuff.

Jedi54 06-14-2006 01:22 PM

I used Black Magic's wax for YEARS on my previous cars. Very good stuff but a PITA to get off.

I'm now using Zaino but I'm kind of a noob with the stuff... ;)

NgoRX8 06-14-2006 01:24 PM

^noob!

I am surprised you guys haven't mentioned Griots as the best wax. Expensive stuff, but the results reflect the cost of the product. Flawless shine, makes darker colors deeper , makes light colors shine vibrant and the shine last. Used by most professional show car enthusiast.

That store brand stuff is all the same to me, wether Zaino, turtle wax ice,Zymol, etc.......none of them keep a long lasting shine after a week like Griots. Many of those store brand waxes look good for about a week or two then your car has that regular shine to it again. And Griots goes on super smooth and comes off super smooth.

And a good tip for you guys that are detail buffs, if you want you car to be silky smooth feeling all the time , clay bar before you wax. It makes a 100% diffrence on how the wax would adhere to your paint. It freaks people out when they rub there hand on my car , and notice how ultra smooth it feels. You can rub your finger across the bodyof my car and you won't hear a streaking noise, butter smooth is how i like it. :)

Zaino can't be purchased at any retail store. Ever. Only available directly from the manufacturer.

Oh, and Zaino ROCKS!!! Just ask ANYONE who has ever seen my car...

You can buy Zaino at any Harley Davidson shop....... :mdrmed:
Well at least the Harley Davidson shops here in central Fl.....

Zaino is a great product in its own rights, but Zaino works and looks best on anything that has black paint on it. I seen it used on cars that are not painted black , and i am not impressed. But its a great product if you have black!

SayNoToPistons 06-14-2006 04:13 PM

omg here comes the zaino crew.... i see your zaino and raise you Acrylic Jett and Poorboys EX-P.

Raptor2k 06-14-2006 10:53 PM

^i'm gonna try AJ once my zaino runs out

Consumer reports does not list quintessential products on anything they study. Sometimes you have to get off the beaten path to find the best products.
