My 8 with rattle can wheels

Well it seems my wife and I have a thing about painting something around the time of a local drift event (I don't participate, just watch and wish I could)...last time was the roof and hatch of my busted BMW 318Ti (we painted the roof and hatch white to match the hood even though it was a red car). Well this time we got the urge to do my wheels to make them "stand out" a bit more and I do believe I accomplished that highly, lol. I plan to do them in a "Ken Block" style and paint one of the spokes white and put a rotary emblem in it and then shoot clear over them when it's done but I didn't have the time to do that this weekend...so without further adieu, here are the pics, whadya think?

My wife (Ashtin) painting them...she promised when this was over and we had a sunny day we would do a photoshoot with the 8 and my bro's 240 and ...her...

All primered up

First coat of ORANGE

Almost done

All done and sitting beside the car to see the contrast

Mounted and done, don't have any other good shots because it rained today and got all wet.

I also decided to tint my tails and do something I haven't seen done with them

And night shot with reverse lights on

I also learned a hard lesson this weekend about not allowing the car to warm up for a bit before shutting it down, I apparently flooded it yesterday and found out today when I jumped in it and tried to drive off and it wouldn't start, after trying a few different procedures it finally came back to life so I gave her a hug and took her for a spin.

Not sure how a feel... definitely stands out more. Need a pic of the whole car (side shot, preferably), at least.

Any particular reason she did the painting of your wheels? Sounds like a nice deal...

She enjoys painting stuff so I let her do them, I cleaned and sanded while she taped, primered, and painted.

Here is a side shot I had on facebook, I was hoping it would be sunny today but I'm not getting that wish.

I am wanting to get the OZ Allegerita's in orange and this gave me an idea of how orange would look with my car.

Not sure how I feel about them. Maybe throw some black lug nuts on there to offset the colors a bit better. The chrome makes it look out of place.

Black Lugs for sure + Orange center caps.

/\This was an awesome idea. Looks great! You should clear coat them, wet sand and wax. The orange peel/matte disappears and it will look stock.

Isn't rattle can paint just going to chip of with road dirt and sand hitting them? So before long they don't look nicely painted? Some type of clearcoat might help.

I think it's a start of a look, definitely needs some orange accents somehow...mirrors, spoiler, something...consider this...

....obviously already way further up the food chain.. so it's possible for this car to get away with this look far more easily.

it doesnt look bad, props for doing a different look. and I would get some sort of clear coat on it, you can get a semi gloss finish if you dont want to just go full on glossy. It will help hold out over time

Thanks for the comments, I do plan to do black lugs with it.

The center caps are orange, but I just didn't have them installed during this pic. I plan to paint the Mazda emblem black, too.

As far as clearcoat goes I plan to do that (I bought a couple of cans for it), I just want to do the wheels like the Ken Block wheels with doing a single spoke in white and do a rotary emblem near the edge of the spoke so I will clear them when I get that done.

As far as tails go I'll give that a shot because I would rather it be shiny and smooth than orange peeled and matte.

Also I plan to do my skirts orange but will get that professionally done.

I would have went the "murdered out" look but I feel like it has been done too many times, so I chose a hella bright orange, lol.

I may look into doing clear coat this weekend, It doesn't get driven too much so I'm not too worried about chips. I have been planning on a drop and 10mm spacers to hold me over til I can afford my OZ's that I want.

When I first had bought my car I Sprayed them black. I have a second car and didn't drive the 8 much and they got chipped up really quick... Also I didn't have a clear coat.

That is lame. Besides Mazdamaniac did that color already but at least he has Volks and it was kind of a joke. But if you like it, then congrats. At least you have a cool wife to make up for the lameness

It will really be a head turner because of the bright odd wheel color.

Yeah. That's not always a good thing. That is how the "what not to do to your car " thread got created.

Going with ya'lls suggestions, I got some new lugs. They are the Muteki SR35's

Comparing them to stock

Before

After

Done!

Now all I have to do is wait til tomorrow for my other package to arrive and install that item along with pasti-dip my Mazda emblems (both on the wheels and on the car) to finally get rid of all the chrome and I'll be ready for Import Alliance next month!
