OMG, OMG, OMG!!!!
Not crazy about the body kit, but the overall stance of that car is SMOKING!!
I'm telling you, I am totally spent this week. First the USDM STi debuts as a rally enthusiast's wet dream, and now this RX-8 debuts as a rotary enthusiast's wet dream.
I think my S2000 is on borrowed time . . . . :p

Grimace, you rock! Pics of the car in normal lighting, love it. The body mods are growing on me more now, I'm even starting to like the rear wing from some angles...

I guess so far i'm the only one who doesn't really like this car. To me id rather have the go fast goodies where it counts, and they can keep the rear wing and the enormous amount of aero cladding.
Personally, I just don't like it. Too busy. Id prefer the look more along the lines of the Mazdaspeed6 with a little aero stuff here and there, but no giant fin, and no huge spoilers.
There is a reason I really like M and AMG cars....they look just more muscular enough to still look mean, but don't go over the top with boy-racer wings and such, much as I feel this RX-8 has.
Personally I like what was done to the protege, though I feel the wing is a wee bit too much now, and is just god awful on the upcoming 2003.5 models.
In all honesty, I really think this is just more of a SEMA type body kit than anything that could be a legitimate Mazdaspeed RX-8. I sure hope so anyway.

I'd rather Mazda leave the car UNDERSTATED (so if the rice-boys want to rice it up with a bigass wing and body kit, ugly rims.. they are free to.).
Elegant, sleek, and sporty are what I see in the current (non Mazdaspeed) RX-8. They aren't overly done, just tastefully. I want the Mazdaspeed RX-8 to look nearly identical to the regular RX-8. Some changes I'd make?
The mirrors can stay.. I love them.
Add hood vents like on the concept, and also over the fenders.
Small lip spoiler.
Slightly more agressive front spoiler.
Chrome tips on the exhaust.
And that's it. It makes for the performance 'look' that's a difference from the RX-8 yet packs all the goodies under the hood that please us. The computer looks neat though I don't know the function, the sport seats are nice though I say give me a black seat... and of course engine/suspension upgrades.
Nothing fancy, just slight exterior upgrades to show you ponied up that money to get the better version, and then all the stuff under the hood and in the suspension to make sure it holds true to its agressive look.

hmmm... i've of two minds on this car...
on one hand, it DOES smoke when looking at this car in the SoCal perspective...
style is something this car is not short on, although the only thing i hate stylistically are those bloody winglets near the corners of the airdam... also, the rear valence panel (which obviously isn't a diffuser ) is just way too blocky... i've got to completely disagree with you fellows who don't like the wing, as it really does add some visual balance to this bottom-heavy car (ESPECIALLY with all that BS side skirt crap), although i'd much rather have a less contoured aerofoil, with some serious endplates (like a REAL wing...) <<sigh>> alas, i cannot have it all... the hieght is just beautiful though... AND THAT FRONT TREATMENT!!! OH MY GOOOOD!!! THEY PULLED THAT STRAIGHT OUTA MY HEAD!!! :D
and boy oh boy, i love the nod to the FC with those Turbo II -esque mirrors. :D quite excellent.
on the other hand, my strictly functional side says "that's pretty f*ckin' stupid, man"... i'd much rather see something remotely functional, like the stock look... i'm sure you don't want to hear me detail my dream car, 'cause i'll never get it (bloody neanderthals... what's wrong with performace over "looks"??)...
sigh...
i'm glad MazdaSpeed had the brains to release something (it IS a concept, fellahs) now, even though they haven't done anything mechanically... with some time, the RENESIS engineers will probably drop the next (low power version) RX-7 motor in there, giving it some pretty slick moves...
i concur with the general concensus that the stance looks wicked, but i must say nay to those too-huge rims... downsize by 2" in diameter, and you've won me over (they DO look absolutely beautiful, though...)
and check out the babe, eh??? :D not too bad.

Chrome wheels!!!
Anyways, yes I do not hope the production Mazdaspeed RX-8 looks like this. I hope it is toned down too, but I love the front bumper, just remove the CF splitters, keep the mirrors, keep the exhausts, tone the side skirts way down and keep the wheels.
Don't forget this car is at the Tokyo Auto Salon, where Japan's most extreme cars are on display, so they had to take it over the top to gain some attention for the car - and it worked.

even though i think it looks great, i hope (if it ever comes) the mazdaspeed rx8 doesnt look like this. its adding more cost than anything else. they should focus on actual performance improvements. those mirrors are nicer than the normal ones though.

I love everything about the concept. The styling of the current Rx8 is an attention getter but, this "potential" concept takes it way over the top. For a Mazdaspeed version, thats were it should be. With the potential performance this car will bring, as well as the limited availability, it deserves all the attention it will get.
