Matte Black OEM wheels
Hey guys, just spent the night with some buddies painting my wheels and calipers. Here are some pictures, turned out great. Only wish I had filled in the inner wheel more, but it's unnoticeable unless you are looking for it.
4 Dupli-Color cans of Black wheel enamel
1 G2 Red caliper kit
2 Polak Graphics Rx-8 caliper Logos
Procedure:
Wheels:
Degreaser
DupliColor Wheel coating enamel BLACK
Sandpaper: 320 grit
Masking tape 2 rolls
index cards
scrubber
drop cloth
Platform for painting on.
CALIPERS AND WHEELS
Calipers FIRST
1) Remove all 4 wheels
2) Clean calipers and rotors with degreaser/brake cleaner
3) Mix paint and paint hardener
4) Apply G2 paint to calipers
A) Front's 1 coat
B) Back's 1 coat
C) Front's 1 coat
D) Back's 1 coat
5 Let dry
Wheels
1) Prep wheels
A) Set up card ring for paint
B) tape off everything that won't be getting painted(Bolts will stay un painted)
C) Fill off bolt holes
2) Sand wheels lightly with 320 grit till entire front is lightly fogged over
3) First coat: lightly spot till covered entirely
wait 5 minutes
4) second coat: spot until well covered, make sure everywhere has been covered even little crevices
wait 15 minutes
5) third coat: if enough paint: re-cover everywhere especially more prominent places
Derived this method from a few other ones out there. No primer needed, just the Dupli-Color did the trick; worked out wonderfully. After all the coats were done I did a dusting layer which was just spraying it so only the metallic particulate would stick (by holding it ~16 inches when spraying) on so now it's a very rough intense finish.
Oh and as far as the Brake decals go, they seem to be working fine, I just want them painted on so I will do that in the next few days/weeks.
Tell me what you guys think!
Original:
Prep Work:
Coat One:
Coat One vs Sanded:
Coat 2, 3, and the dusting all looked the same...
First Finished couple:
Painted Caliper:
And it all comes together...:
More pics coming soon, everything taken on my phone, at night, so some pictures are a little blurry.
