I'll let you know if we hit any snags; but so far so good - shopping for this thing is soo much easier than the RX8.

mostly cus it's 20-30 years old and cheaper to restore 1 car than to buy 1 turbo kit for the 8 :D

Kane 10-29-2008 02:27 PM

Yeah; we have spent less than 3K and that is for all new interior including dash; new top end of the motor including heads, cam, lifters, pushrods, rockers, timing belt and cover..... good to be cheap.

Body and paint another 2-3K and maybe another 500 in parts for ignition and fuel system.... 400+HP Classic for 6500+3500 car...... not too bad.

tajabaho1 10-29-2008 03:53 PM

wait.........u bought the car for how much now?

350 small block? 357? what block is it?

Kane 10-29-2008 04:02 PM

Car was $3500 - has Chevy 350 Small Block with Turbo 400 transmission.

Kane 10-29-2008 04:04 PM

PS - The guy Taylor who is working with me on this thing now wants to be able to pull a wheelie..... LOLOLOL; Nitrous anyone?

Oh and We'll need to figure out a new hood; the IM and carb won't clear the stock one.

tajabaho1 10-30-2008 01:01 AM

direct port nitrous FTW :D

rddragoness 10-30-2008 01:11 AM

If your gonna pull wheelies you might look into a 8-9 inch rear and sway bars with that kind of power! My husband built a Pontiac 400 big block and dropped it into a 68 firebird. Unfortunately it was in the days before digital cameras..... :( so no pics but she was BAD AZZZZZzz when he was done. Drove it into traffic and got it sideways before he realized it, and had to reinforce the rear end and add sways.

Just my .02 :D:

He's old school muscle.....latest project is a 78 El Camino with a 305...for now.

lepichichi 10-30-2008 10:03 AM

why not install a 20B in the stingray :):)

tajabaho1 10-30-2008 10:18 AM

Taj, you are doing WHAT? Why not get a 7MGE crate motor from japan for 600.00 and do a swap. You can get them out of Denver I think. Go to the supra forums, and I'm sure there's a website somewhere. My son has my old one with less than 40K miles on it. The car has 120K I think. The only thing you really have to worry about with Supra's are head gaskets blowing.

D Baize 10-30-2008 02:24 PM

That 'Vette is ripe for a LS1 swap. LS1's are lighter than the original engine and can produce 350-450hp, depending on mods and tune.

HeavyMetal699 10-30-2008 02:29 PM

I would actually say NOT to use a ford 9" rear end. They are quite heavy and archaic. There are shops that make custom rear ends which will cost about the same in the end and hold the same power. Huge difference in weight though.

Also pulling wheelies in muscle cars are all about traction. So you will need slicks in the rear(or really fat sticky tires). If you want to go straight when you do a wheelie you will need some sort of locking differential (which will suck on the street btw). Also whatever suspension components you can find to stiffen the rear so there is no wheel hop.

I feel like today is muscle car day for me. My 3rd or so post about muscle cars.

Edit: Had a locker in my mustang and if you go that route I would caution never to drive in rain. In fact if it starts raining try to limp it home doing less than 30mph. The reason being the locker will lock up when you hit the gas and release when you let off the gas. This sent me in a spin a few times in the rain.

greg985 10-30-2008 02:43 PM

how come my engine doesnt have any of these parts?

:lol2:

Kane 10-30-2008 03:36 PM

Whoa---- I knew about traction and eliminating wheel hop etc... but this thing still needs to be a daily driver; so I guess Wheelies are out..... ah well.

I really wanted to do an LS1 as well; but $$$ wasn't there; espeically when you add in the ECU et-al needed. So this one is more of a budget build and less of a drag monster.... but still 400+ Hp in a street car isn't so bad!

D Baize 10-30-2008 03:56 PM

Hey Kane, how much gain do you think my LS1 has with the intake and exhaust???

Kane 10-30-2008 04:23 PM

Is this like random question time? LOL

Ok give me your intake size and length; and your exhaust size and length + the stock sizes and I'll guess...

D Baize 10-30-2008 04:41 PM

Oooops, sorry man

Kane 10-30-2008 04:42 PM

NP - now I am curious to see if I can figure it out....

i'm lovin it Kane - the Stingray is one of the only american cars that does it for me .
Motor looks sweet too ... if only we could get the renesis to look bling bling like that lol

blackenedwings 11-02-2008 11:23 AM

You are making me so jealous. I miss my 1973 Stingray project... but it was completely totalled years ago by someone backing a truck over it. This car is going to look beautiful. Best of luck.

Ross_Dawg 11-02-2008 12:36 PM

that engine is a beast bro... looking great so far!
