every time I see an 8 with 20's on it, it looks like it is a 4 wheel drive, too much ground clearance. needs to be lowered. just my opinion.

Got mine 3/13/6. Love it just as much today as I did when I pulled into the dealer lot & it was waiting right in front of the door waiting for me to sign.

The stainless steel strakes are cheaper than Mazda store aluminum even with exchange rate & shipping from the UK - back in April they were $120 USD vs. ~$190 for the "mazda" ones. Don't know what the cost would be for U, but they're at http://www.rx8-accessories.com/index.html if you want to check.

I am in Alberton, JHB. Next time you see a silver 8 flashing, its me. I was going to tint first, but thought sorting out the audio system comes first. If you are near Alberton, check out the Mazda dealer, they have a modified 5 speed. Looks similar to chrism's car. Really nice with carbon fibre bonnet and black rims and a lot more other goodies.

Good to see some more people from SA

Hey...

I'm in Fourways. It's good to see some more people from SA on this forum.

I've got a Velocity Red - 2004 model. I was just wondering - Phat8 - what all do you guys do at your store? Is it just sound? I've been thinking of modding a bit - but most of my cash is going towards a new house at the moment.

Where exactly is your store in Edenvale - I reckon I should pop round for a visit - check our your 8 (it looks really good).

The strakes that you spoke about - you can get them WAY cheaper from the UK - check out: http://www.rx8strakes.com or http://www.rx8-accessories.com - both offer strakes and accents for the front and back bumpers for quite decent prices - I was thinking of getting some myself.

Also - do you know anywhere I can get hold of Enkei rims? I REALLY like the new Mazdaspeed 2 style rims from Enkei - blue 8 attached. I reckon those are what I'd like to stick on my 8.

Lastly - do you know of anyone who does forced induction on 8's here in SA? I've looked around and can find a multitude of tuners for the rx7 but not the 8. The only kit I've come across if from Big Boss Auto (Petit Turbocharger kit) but they want +- R70 000 for it! That's a bit out of my range at the moment.

Otherwise - Enjoy your 8 - I know I love mine!

The UK 8s don't have rear accents. Not sure what you've got in SA, but if you want front AND rear the UK shops are not gonna have both.

True - I forgot that you guys get the rear fog light in the "diffuser" area

Well, the rx8strakes.com site sells the accents for the rear - I imagine it's a US site. They also make an aftermarket rear "fog light" type light which lights up with the tail lights and brakes. Not sure I'd get it, but I do like the accents...

There's also a knock off rear accent - I've got it on my8. It's aluminum (so I guess not really a knock off) but made by rotary13b something or other. Got it on ebay 30 or 40 (USD$$$$) and am quite happy with it. I'll check the site tomorrow - it's bookmarked at work.

The front accent I got from Howard (rx8-accessories.com) was pretty expensive. His strakes are great & cheaper, but the front accent was more than the regular aluminum ones through mazda. Not sure if there are any front accents that are cheaper.

Thanks for the info. The ones on rx8strakes.com are pretty cheap because they're plastic. I think they go for something like $40 for the accents and $70 for the strakes. I'm not sure exactly how durable they'll be but the pricing is nice.

I'm not really focussed on modding my car at the moment, but I have started a little kitty that I'm just throwing a few extra Rands into each month that I can put towards little things like strakes and accents. I know there isn't a concensus on this forum in terms of whether the strakes look good or not. But I like them - I think the combination of the strakes and accents just add's that little bit extra to the car.

Turns out he's got the front & rear accents - $70 (USD) for both!

http://www.rotary13b1.com/order.html

I've got the rear accent & it's great. I would recommend adding a small piece of double sided sticky tape to the lower corner b4 applying it. Mine seems like it can wiggle a tiny bit. Don't have the front from this place, so I can't comment on the fitment.

R32000 apparently the guys done a few and after mods pushed 320 kw on the wheels. im getting the details and researching will keep u up 2 date. super test the rotary specialists in springs only want 2 supercharge, they reckon turbo'ing is unreliable on the rx8, ive tried 2 ask guys on the forum but get no response... they want R50000. there is also a bolt on greddy kit from the states 4 R35000. just to get it imported... im into property 2 also pumping cash into that thats why my mods r coming slowly 2. so 1st get ur house sorted i agree. good area the north's cool but i hate the traffic to william nicol. b great2 meet uand 2 come round to my shop some time. no plates on the front, that's the style, looks best...

the rx8 is so sexy as it is, people haved 2 b careful with their choice of mods ive seen furry cow print pattern seat covers over the leather seats, people changing the steering wheels, gear shift changers, huge aluminium wings, chrome mercedes amg style mags, fridges in boots. if u look at the calling all engine bays thread u will c a example of what not to do (flames sprayed on the covers) just my opinion... will let u know when i spot a furry dash no no no no. .. i'll get a friend to edit all these ''mods''on photo shop and post a pic and tell me what u think...they actually featuring these cars in our performance magazine just my opinion..i guess at least it's not just vw golfs the whole time. PAYING ATTENTION 2 THE FINER DETAILS ON SUCH A SEXY CAR will make a huge difference Already strakes etc... i sprayed my front and back rotor symbol under the bumpers matt silver and looks good along with painting my calipers red (not a quick mod) and putting mesh in the (mesh plastic look inserts) mods on the back bumper. these r all easy cheap mods. my bumper had stone chips and needed a respray so i got them 2 remove the badge and fill the holes and the unneccesary things under the lights that do nothing removed and filled at the same time looks more PHAT! AND OF COURSE NO NUMBER PLATE (if any one knows a handbrake lever mod, pls share. it's about the only thing i dont like.) luckily we can sit back and c brave people doing things on the forum and make the right choices. i love it when u drive ur 8 and u feel like ur wearing a huge pink and yellow hat cos everyone's looking ur way or trying hard not 2, then u know ur styling.... and u even get abit of animosity ... zoom zoom. i luv my rx8.

Did Any One here local see 2 editions back in the Speed And Sound mag The Red Rx8 With The Chrome 20'' Mags? Talk About Spoiling The Look Of A Great Car! It's Not A Mercedes Benz Amg. And Fridges In The Boot...? as long as they happy with it i suppose. another thing I Was Very Dissapointed with When They Tested The Rx8 On The Power Laps Comparisons And Had Such Low Ratings The (5 Speed With 20'' Mags!) W.t.f ............................... At Least They Eventually Grew A Brain Or Got Alot Of Flak And Tested The 6 Speed Model A Couple Of Issues Later.

Please do give any info on the turbo / super charging that you find. I haven't looked into it much other than reading up on kits available from the US. I'm liking the sound of the Petit Supercharger kit - looks to be about the easiest and most stock looking bolt on. I've been following the thread and am just waiting for them to get it completed. As I say, I can't afford it now, but it'll be something to look into for 2008.

At the moment I'm just going to go for cosmetic stuff like the front and rear accents. I want to get a mesh grille for the back as well, but I actually want to take the car to a place that'll take the bumper off and actually cut out the plastic "fake" mesh grille and then put in a nice looking silver one. Any ideas of a good place to take the car to for that?

Thanks for the help again! I'll probably visit some time in the new year - I need to sort out the sound in the car too. Nothing major - was hoping to get away (for now) with just replacing the speakers with better ones - but I'll leave that chat for when I visit your store
