Jdm Rx-8 (t&t)
Yes folks.....finally making my first post on RX8 CLub...so be kind to a n00b
Recently acquired a "JDM" '07 RX8 Type S (6MT-duh).
I'm based in Trinidad, West Indies (that's in the Caribbean for those who may not know). We normally get our cars (used and new) directly from the Japanese market.
Car is pretty much stock except for a nice set of bronze Work Emotion XD9 18X8's
Not sure if USDM folks got this colour in the Series 1 lineup - I believe it's "Stormy Blue Mica"? (subject to correction).

A view of the 8 from my '02 WRX

^^Much thanks!
You sure about the Shinka colour though? I know the JDM market up until '05-06 at least, got the "purplish"/dark cherry colour for their shinkas.....and got the cream leather interior as well. There was also the "Sport Prestige" version of the RX8 Type S, which carried the interior of the Shinka + the stiffening frame upgrades (A and C pillar to Roof mating points)
I was always under the impression that the USDM folks had access to the "Shinka" mods (interior, colour etc), as a trim level after 04, rather than a complete car ??? Kinda like a USDM version of a JDM Sport Prestige......
Interior of my car is the standard black/grey colour.

x2. AFAIK, my car is a "std" Type-S.
Non-Shinka.
In the JDM market, this colour was brought over from the "Sport Prestige" variant.
Thanks! Pics really don't do it justice IMHO. Has a slight hint of purple in the sunlight.........

stormy blue was always a standard color, in us or japan. "sport prestige" in japan was basically the same as our shinka, was originally available in black cherry, then copper red and gray. there was another dark blue called strato blue, but it was more purple than blue
very nice. congrats
very nice. congrats
Thanks folks!
Speaking of which, I'm surprised no one has has asked me how the 8 stacks up against my WRX (Stage 2 actually)....and I mean in terms of driving feel, acceleration feel etc etc

Bah.....not sure WHICH one this is!
At any rate, the car is a dark blue, kinda pearlescent/metallic finish to it. Take it in the sun, and it has a significantly purple hue (see the second pic above).
Car also has RX8 branded scuff plates (apparently that was optional trim), and the aluminum rotor bezel on the bumpers (apparently optional as well).
Hah! Not much for now. Considering getting some KnightSport's rotor shaped exhaust tips, as I'm not too keen on changing out the CB system yet (it's good to have a quiet-ish car for now .... my WRX is reallllllyyyy loud). But jeez...those Knightsport's tips are expensiv-o!!

It looks like strato blue to me, which is a JDM only color. Looks great, one of my favorite colors for the 8. Too bad we didn't get it here in the US.

Nice Stormy blue!!! So any plans for it yet?

the wrx looks pretty nice also. so, how do they compare?
i used to go driving in my fd w/ a gd sti my neighbor had. his was also white, and it was a sweet car. tons of power, handled well, easily outran the fd (probably 'cuz i was driving)

Well sure the 8 can't wipe an Evo or a Z at your local drag strip, but........
My WRX is at a Stage 2 setup if you will....
The Type S's acceleration is, IMHO, mindboggling in stock form, considering it's N/A and it's somewhat heavy curb weight.
honestly, I don't think that folks with the 6MT need to feel that "inferior" when it comes to even str8 line performance/sheer acceleration - based on my un-calibrated buttdyno, once the rx8 is kept above 4.5-5k, the car feels shockingly similar to the WRX. The WRX has the edge, but just barely due to the monstrous low end torque. Beyond that, it's pretty safe to say that the WRX, in completely stock form, would probably have been outgunned by the Type S. That applies to the newer (peanut eyed) GD-based models as well.....not sure how the new 2.5L hatch versions would fare though

As for handling, I'm still learning my way around the 8's RWD layout (my first RWD car
). The WRX is brutish in cornering technique (go in fast, geardown, accelerate at the apex, pray, and let your front wheels magically pull you out of the corner). The rx8 requires more finesse I imagine. In short, the WRX is fantastic, but the RX8 seems to do everything just a little bit better.
Seriously.
