tried LEDs, but they were just not bright enough in red...so went to 6 inch neon tubes. One switch works 2 tubes...one in each footwell.

I have the OEM footwell lighting as well, but these go on an off with the door lights...wanted something to stay on. The reds match perfectly.

Now THAT looks good. The bright blue LED's look kind of ricy to me.

If you are asking about my setup, the pictures are of the neon's. The oem have the same intensity and disperse the light in the same fashion...but just go off when the dome light fades out. The neons are 6 inch tubes that are held up by zipties.
Did a set in my fiance's 8 as well. She went purple...which ends up looking very much like the blue LED's posted above.

The DIY for OEM rewire runs them off the parking light switch, so they're on whenever the parking lights are on.

I bought the OEM set on ebay for ~$40 and did the install myself. It was a little confusing, and I gave up the first day I tried it, re-read everything, and did it right in about an hour on my second attempt. I like the look and intensity - enough that it's noticable, but no so bright that it interferes with normal night driving (including 15% tint).
