finally painted calipers

I personally like the way it turned out. It took more time than I thought it would.

ignorant question here -- never done this before. I want to paint mine too - how long does it take to dry completely before you can put them back on (can it easily be done on weekend and have back together to drive on MON)

also I want to paint the rusted edge of rotors and because of my mileage (21k) I just KNOW the dealer won't do it like they have some of the newer ones. Do you paint it with the same type of paint as the caliper and do you just mask over the smooth surface to keep paint off it?

Nice job billy. I'm still undecided as to what color I'm going to go with.
Does anyone know how well the AutoZone caliper paint holds up?

I was considering doing this as well but I'm afraid that blue calipers might look trashy. I may go silver.

I spent 6 hours on mine. Painted red and one of the rotors had to be painted as well. I used the brush on type for the calipers and spray on the rotor. Make sure you clean the breaks off throughly with break cleaner before masking. Painted three coats and applied a 4th afte putting the break assembly back on the car. 15 to 20 minutes in between. Mask off everything or it will look non professional (that was being polite). Be patient as there is NO WAY to rush this. Mask the rotars off carefully as paint on the surface that touches the pads will cause damage. Don't disconnect the hoses and don't use spray paint unless you are comfortable masking your car off.

i had red on mine..but a kack *** on post (when i was inteh army down in Ga)..cleaned them with a pressure washer and blew the paint off ...haha good thing he started with the caliper adn not the car..that would've been bad...so now mines farded and chiped...didn't really dig the red after a while on my silver..so i got some black fromautozone.

someone asked i forgot who..but it's a ceramic paint. It can hold 500 deg. cel.

maybe i'll just clean the red off with a wire brush and kkeep the original dingy coler...who knows :p

takes about

Takes about 3 hrs a side. You lift one side...put on jack stands.....mask..clean brake dust....paint....then 2nd coat 15 min later....let dry for 2 hours....put wheels back on.....drive back into garage....let dry for 24 hours....so paint sets and can handle the heat.......I have driven 1 day and paint feeeels strong....paint left over in can....can spot paint them thru wheels later if need be

suggestions for best results

Put whole car on stands.
By the time you make one circuit of the car, you're ready for second coat.
Use two part paint only (G2 for example). The best bond to the metal is made when the two parts chemically react.
Don't figure on touch-ups later.
Two coats will do it.

I did mine the easy way. I told the dealer I wouldn't buy the car unless they painted the calipers red. And a few other things.
