FINALLY! Chickenwafer's RX-8

I've been meaning to do this for a while but I FINALLY got off my lazy ass and took some pictures.

I really wanted everything to be perfect, but I just decided to do it. I used my crappy Casio Exlim so image quality isn't the best, but I spent a while in PS touching them up.

All in all I'm pretty happy with how they came out.

Hope everyone likes em! (EDIT: Added quick interior shot!)

Whew! That's about it. I'm sure there's stuff I'm forgetting. I acutally remembered when uploading the photos I forgot to take any pics with the doors open! Opps. Next time for sure.

Overall right now I'm really happy with how the car drives, handles, and looks. It's semi-scary fast, handles on rails, and the looks are clean and subtly aggressive. I'm still not done yet, and thinking of moving the water/meth tank and pump to the trunk, new seats, water pump, AST, rad hoses, etc. It never ends!!

And yes, I know my catch can has no hoses hooked up to it! Hoses are on order!

I have to thank 8Club, Arizona Mazda Club (AZMC), and all my friends for helping me with my dream car. She's not done yet, but pretty much there!

Dave

turborx8 12-07-2008 04:07 AM

Congrats dude!

Every single mod was perfectly chosen and you can tell you did your homework.

Now that the car is done how do you feel? Most of the time when there is nothing else to mod ppl get bored and part it out.

Easy_E1 12-07-2008 04:18 AM

About time you came out of the closet Dave. :uhh:

Rotr8 12-07-2008 08:06 AM

looks very clean. I like.

You'll have to give me some hints on how to clean up the battery lines. I relocated mine to the trunk, but I have all the OEM wires in the usual spot and it looks messy.

BigRed 12-07-2008 08:44 AM

Very, very nice!

Nice work!! Sweet looking car

Race Roots 12-07-2008 09:22 AM

Looks Beautiful!

- Very Interesting how you have the TEIN Hood Dampers Mounted backwards, does it make it easier to close the hood for you?

- Ditch The rad tank and get an AST!

- How do you keep the Alternator so shiny? I love it!

You should recuirc the BOV with any MAF based setup, but call me a ricer, I love the sound. And it only makes shotgun-style backfires.

No problem, man. I just stuck the battery connections under the front brace so they are hidden, and routed the main 1/0g power wire under the PCM case and hidden in loom. I hate seeing wires.

Not Tein, NRG dampers. I found that installing them like I did prevents the hood brackets some trying to swivel to the side as much.

Carbing AST, Blue silicone Samco hoses, and MazMart water pump are next on the list!

Powerball mini, works wonder for the Alt and other small places.

Better pics including interior shots and video are in the werkz, hopefully soon!

nuke0907 12-07-2008 06:06 PM

can you get some more pics of the intake setup? more specifically what components you are using and how its routed into the bumper. i'm talking to CRH about fabricating my MAF tube.

05rex8 12-07-2008 06:11 PM

very clean setup. looks great.

Yeah, I think I might have some pics. It's just a 3.5" ID Vibrant aluminum 90-degree pipe connected to the K&N First Gen intake pipe (Part that holds the MAF), with a silicone 3.5-3.5" coupler (nothing fancy, doesn't see any boost).

I had to oval-out the Vibrant 3.5" pipe because the BHR rad so huge it takes up some space in the pass-thru. I just wrapped the piece in a shop towel, put a brick on top of the pipe, and used a hammer to give it some good whacks. The brick applies weight to the pipe and keeps you from denting it.

On the other end of the Vibrant pipe is a 3.5"-3" reducing coupler connected to a 2" long 3"-3" aluminum straight pipe with a K&N Ru5111 air filter on the end. This was the only filter I could find that fit behind the bumper. My intercooler is too large and too far back to drop a filter behind it, like the AEM setup requires.

PM me if you have any more questions, Nuke

Also added a quick-n-dirty interior picture.

Car looks looks great. What kind of power numbers do you expect with this kit? How much boost are you presently running?

DSEA 12-08-2008 08:39 AM

Not really feeling it, it's an 8 so it's okay.

Yeah right, that thing is gorgeous, man. Beautiful ride. I salute you sir.

Race Roots 12-08-2008 10:17 AM

Cool! I was unaware that SAMCO made hoses for the RX-8....I only see they are made for the RX-7.

Thanks. Looking at right around 300-rwhp with 9~9.5 psi (what I currently run on the street). I have tried 12psi and it's kinda scary fast, and makes it hard to watch gauges and the road.

I did 202-rwhp NA and my motor has amazing compression so I'm hoping to be a little above-average with the turbo as well.

rotary-x 12-13-2008 02:44 PM

looks great man.
