Actually, if you check the tapes you'll find that what Lovell really said was:

"Houston, we've had a problem."

Far be it for a fighter pilot to actually admit having (present tense) a problem. Remember, this is the breed of folks who relegate God to being their co-pilot (the landing gear officer).

 

I'd happily claim to be one of those "breeds".

 

now if we can only strap a jet engine to the 8 ....
