Nah, no apology necessary. I think most people think of double parking in the way that you used it, taking up two parking spaces.

You just can't win. Don't take two spots, this type of thing happens. You do take two, people get pissed and key your car!

I think taking two spots is the biggest a-hole move in the world. If you're so worried about your precious car, don't park it in public places, but don't make me walk farther because of it. If you get keyed for doing that, you deserve it. And it's not double parking, it's just being a dick.

This is what happened to our GSL-SE a couple of months ago. same deal no witnesses, no note, and we didn't notice until the next day. The dent is pretty high up on the car and there are some thread marks on the hood, probably from the threads on a tow ball. You should have to pass a test before you can drive an SUV!

I had some jerk plow into my wife's car in our apt. complex, I was out front and heard a "crunch" and then when I turned around the dude was trying to drive off, and they live right underneath us! I don't get some people, doesn't anybody do what's right anymore? how about a "sorry, I'll take care of that" instead of "oh ****, we better get out of here before someone sees us"

I dont do it when a place is busy, but if there are a lot of spots then looks like your walking a little further arattle. Key is nothing compared to a big f'ing dent.

Sorry, man, I have no sympathy for you. If you normally take up two spaces (busy or not) and the one time you don't your car gets messed up, then it's karma catching up with you.

1. Karma is a major tenant of three religions. We ask members to stay away from religious discussions, and anyone who is of those three religions will probably be a little upset if you are accusing people of having bad karma, as much as anyone would be mad if someone told them they are going to hell for taking up two parking spaces.

2. This is a question of personal morality. If you don't agree with what someone says, you have the right to voice that opinion, but you MUST do it in a respectful manner.

So, quit flaming each other. We're all here for a common reason: we all like the same car. So, lets at least understand we all share something, and respect each other for that.

I'm not saying that what the person did to his car was right or good; only that karmicly what happened was sort of a "don't be a jackass, and jackass things won't happen to you" sort of message. You see, peope who double park, or take two spaces, etc, are jackasses. Just like people who hit and run and damage someone else's car are jackasses. Both cause people to be inconvenienced. Both parties are wrong and should not do it. The pentalies may be stiffer for the hit and run, but the double parking is no less worse.

It's kinda like someone who shoplifts or robs banks comes home to find his house has been robbed or worse, burned down; and then wonders "why did this bad thing have to happen to me?". Poetic justice.

Oh, and there was/is nothing karmicly wrong with what I've said on this matter, thus far. I don't wish bad things on people, nor am I reveling in the fact that someone's car was damaged. I'm just stating the obvious irony of the thread starter's predicament. Anything bad that happens to me in the near future is because of something else I've done, not because of this thread.

Come on guys - we all know taking two spots (close to the store, etc.) is a ******** move. It really does beg for a key-job. If the car's that important to you - walk your lazy *** from the furthest reaches of the lot - I do... cause I don't want a door ding... or a key-job.

Yeah, I know, there are those occasions that there isn't a "furtherst reaches of the lot"... Oh well... pick a nice car to park next to and cross your fingers. It's just a car. You bought it to drive... and like it or not, parking's kind of part of the deal.

I certainly hope that you realize how ridiculous it is for you to equate taking two parking spaces to a hit and run. Oh, what am I thinking, you obviously don't or you wouldn't have posted that.

Yes, I agree.

But your analogy is WAY off base here. Not even close. Someone who double parks is only doing it to protect their vehicle from damage. They are not doing it to purposely harm someone, or take something away from them. Double parking isn't "morally wrong" the same way shoplifting or a hit and run is, is it? What are the consequences of things like shoplifting and a hit and run? A bit more severe than the consequences of double parking, don't you think?

You said you have no sympathy for the victim of a hit and run because he had PREVIOUSLY double parked. How do you think people will interpret that? You have taken a stance on the issue by posting in this thread and stating, two separate times, that you have no sympathy for this victim. It sounds to me like you think he had it coming, which is pretty darn close to "reveling" in the fact his car was damaged (especially since you think he is a "jackass").

It just bugs me when I see such twisted logic.

I occassionally double park at work. When I do, it is in the very farthest part of the parking lot, where there are no other cars. Guess I have some bad stuff coming too, huh?

I don't double park in public places, like Costco etc. for fear of people like you who think that people that double park are "jackasses" and deserve to have bad things happen to them, and just might go out of their way to make sure that it happens by "accidently" scraping my car with their keys etc.

I will agree that taking two spots anywhere near the front of the store is a stupid thing to do. I also agree that if your car is important to you, park your *** from the furthest reaches of the lot....exactly what I do.

But to say double parking near the front is "begging for a key job" is the thing I have a hard time with.

I do this as well. If I can't find a good, out of the way spot, I always look for another nice car to park next to, since the chances are they are more likely to be careful with their own car.

My bad guys, shouldnt have even worded the initial post like i did. This didnt happen right in front of a mall or something it was in a huge parking garage where there was absolutly no spots anywhere. I do just like rob and park the fathest away where there are lots of free spots so it dosen't affect anybody, hell most of the time there are a few others nearby doing the same thing. I know its an a-hole move, but thats the guys who take up the golden spots or the close ones. PS I found out they have cameras in that garage so there might be hope finding out who did it, so then let the *** beating begin!

Just to clarify, I feel for the original poster. There's nothing worse than getting hit-and-run, the feeling is the most helpless feeling in the world, and you've done nothing to deserve it. And I think hit-and-run is infinitely worse than taking two spots parking. But the point is, we are all members of society, and we have to live together and respect each other. Your double parking and taking a spot that ethically you should leave for the next person is inconsiderate to say the least. Just like someone scratching your car and leaving. Yet Rob seems to be defending one of the actions as a completely normal way to live, and the other as a crime.

There are certain things that aggravate me to no end, and things like cutting people off in traffic, not using turn signals as a courtesy, stopping in the middle of the road with no warning, etc. and all extremely annoying to me. So is somebody who takes two spots in the parking lot, even if I was not going to park there in the first place. I usually either park farther away, or just trust that people aren't animals and will not damage my car on purpose. Sure, an accident may happen, but parking in two spots wouldn't stop that 100% of the time. As somebody said earlier, it's a car, you drive it, you park it. It is parked for more than 90% of the time in most cases, and half the time it's not at your house. So it's best to learn to deal with it than to be constantly frustrated and take up people's spots. Again, I'm sorry it happened to you, I hope you catch the bastard, but please, don't take two spots when parking. Think of other people who do not wish to harm your car and just want to get to the store.

I usually try to park the farthest away that I possibly can in a lot. But I still find ppl in junkers parking right next to me, freaking 75 yards from the store, and with half the rest of the lot empty!

Yesterday I got to school early and took up 2 spots, I kinda thought campus security would ticket me, but, to my suprise I came back to no tickets. I kinda feel for the other ppl though, Sure I got to school at 7:30am, but I still parked in the farthest lot on campus (and took 2 spots), and when my class was done at 11 am, I came back to the entire farthest lot full, with my car taking up 2 spots and ppl being forced to park in residential streets, lol. Well, I wouldn't have done it, but my school is cheap and decided to shrink all parking spots to just barely fitting the car. And I mean, JUST BARELY, at my school, you need to park perfectly, or else you will be over the line, and even then, you are still unnervingly close to the other people.

I mean, as long as you use common sense, your not being an *******. The ppl who hit and run, ARE ********. All they are is jealous that they are working some pathetic *** job, and will never be able to afford, or even test drive a nice 30k car!

People with common sense and good reasoning are able to respect other's accomplishments, just like if I saw a viper 2x parked in a lot, I would say, "Thats a cool car, its a good thing that he took two spots, so some dumbass won't scratch it"

I mean, I know I worked hard for my car, I put in 76 hrs a week to pay for it!, and im a 20 yr old guy! Can't people respect the accomplishment of being able to pay for something like this?

May the people that hit people's cars, smash them when they open their door's, leave their shopping carts out to ding them etc. wrap their ******* rides around a tree on the way home! I am so angry for you! Inconsiderate people, I loath them. My friend told a lady once that she should put her cart up because it just rolled and hit another car. Her reply? So this is what I'm afraid of each time I park my car. Coming back to find it scratched up. In fact last night I parked in this tight parking lot when I went to go to the gym. While I was there I kept on worrying that one of the two would ding my car. That sucks man. Now I'm going to doubly worry about that.

As for the double parking thing... I personally think you deserve to get keyed if you double park in a crowded parking lot. If it's an empty or half full parking lot, sure that's fine with me. If it's a crowded one tho, you're being a dick. I don't care how much money and work you put to get your car. I don't care if it's a super expensive one either.

Just because you spent so much time to buy your car doesn't give you the right to take my potential parking spot when I need it. I think chances are higher that you'll get keyed than having some idiot hit your car while parking or going home in that situation.
