Debate: Stay or change?
Hey guys,
So i installed new rims yesterday, rpm 505 staggered setup in hyper silver 18x8 & 18x9. I think they look good personally especially with my rx8 dropped 1", however, i am debating whether or not I should powdercoat the face of the wheel black or if i should leave it this hypersilver color. what would look better? Please give me honest feedback... Thanks!

To be honest, and thats what you asked for anyway right. Not a fan of very mesh like rims like this on a sports car. Doesnt really flow with the car.
In terms of leaving it or powder coat. I would powder coat it and leave the lip chrome or hypersilver.

good eye jed-eye
definitely looks weird w/o the lower lip
i disagree - while i think black powder coat (and leave silver lip) would look good, i like the silver...if you just got these, ride the silver for a while, then in a year or two powder coat it. what's the rush

Yes it was done intentionally because the lower lip portion (which i still have in my basement) did not line up nicely at all on the car, i bought it used but it looks as if it was damaged and repaired so I decided to just use the top portion, it looks much better in person and at a view from the rear as well.
Who could photoshop it so that I could see them in black? I would really appreciate that!

My vote would be leave as is, but is this sort of what you wanted to see?
Did I leave too much Silver?
Were you going to do the center caps?

I was going to do the center caps as well and no I think that is what I had in mind. Now that I see it im not sure what i think of it. I think it looks good as is and I am going to get the Mazda Strakes in silver or black depending on which route I go and I plan on purchasing a MS Kit here in the next couple months as well.
Youre gonna love me. Check this out. Its called Plastic Dip. You can try doing your wheels black and leaving the lip silver and see if you like it. If you dont it peels right off.

I wasn't really sure and that was a five minute quick job.
Back when i had my 2010 lancer, I plasti dipped the 18" wheels black and in the beginnning they turned out great! here let me get a picture. Not a great picture but it works. Plasti dip is great to use, when sprayed on it kinda seemed thick and oily and is hard to spray an even coat, but let it sit for 30 minutes, come back out and it magically just lays flat and turns into a flat black. 4-5 coats and the wheels look great. Although i did this at the beginning of the summer, and buy the end of the summer, i think the sun had started to fade the paint. It seemed much more dull after a couple months. the finish was still fine, no chipping or peeling. but as someone said if you dont like it, after a few hours of bloody finger nails, you can peel it off and have your stock rim back
