NO SIR, you have it all wrong. just because an rx-8 has an accident, doesn't mean it is cursed, IF IT GETS RAN OVER BY A FREAKING TANK, NOW THATS A CURSE

on a side note, over the summer i sold an 84 RX-7 that i cherished. it was a Sunbeam Silver metallic GSL. it had 55K original miles. the paint was near flawless(obvious repaint on the front nose..collision maybe..curse maybe.) i bought it and it needed a clutch...i pull the trans, clutch, and attempt to remove the pilot bearing...i have the oem pilot bearing puller....and the pilot bearing was heat seized to the eccentric shaft. that was nothing short of a nightmare....the brakes would always squeal, the clutch pedal never felt quite right...you know, for a car with so few miles you think it would have been worlds better than it was...the curse might have been in effect in the 80's as well...just like a virus...growing..waiting to pounce..

:jerkit:

The overinflated number of silver rx8 accidents isnt due to a bs curse its due to the mass production of the most common color for an automobile in existence.

Ill admit, the tank running over the silver 8 didnt help my case however :banghead:

alright guys, this sucks. i saw this thread for the first time last night, and today, a SnapOn truck backed into to me and took out my rear left corner. I've had this car for almost 2 years and its been accident-free. Never using SnapOn tools again!

hey I made it into a signature (again).

Shouldnt I get like a gold star sticker or something?

Mods- PM me and Ill give you my address so you can ship that out

Garrett 01-14-2009 07:28 PM

Silver is the most common color, so of course it'll be the color that is crashed the most. It would never be white, for example, because that's the rarest color (please spare me the Shinka color BS).

Renesis07 01-14-2009 07:32 PM

^^ My point exactly, that is why I started my quest which lead me to the magical picture of a Velocity red RX8 ran over by a tank which would act as proof and our point of how false the silver curse is will conquer the minds of silver rx8 owners everywhere and restore peace amonst our community.

altspace 01-15-2009 07:10 PM

As many said before, I believe there are many factors involved here.

The short list:
1. Number of silver cars produced, and shades of silver.
2. Amount of time vehicle is on the road.
3. Location, location, location.
4. Driver habits, and surrounding people.
5. Pure bad luck

LMAO. Caught redhanded.

I don't know. I traded it in 3 years ago.

It was keyed two days after that photo was taken though. :spank:

I'm trying to look for my hit-and-run pics from from my newer 8 last year. Very nice.

Renesis07 01-16-2009 08:50 AM

thats cuz you got a red 8 LOL

blappy 01-19-2009 12:35 PM

Mine has a little case of curse:

2 months after I got it, somebody CRAPPED ON THE HOOD in a parking lot overnight. (Psycho chick bad at make and model recognition of ex-bf's car, I think -- a couple days later my neighbor's silver Acura RL had 'LIAR' carved in the driver's door...)

A few months after that, some $h!tb@g bounced a shopping cart off the side of it at the grocery store -- $1200 worth of too lazy to walk a goddamn cart to the little corral. Here's the curse part of the story, though: While it was at the body shop, one of the techs tripped and dropped a spinning grinder on the ( previously undamaged) trunk. So mine has 1 1/2 coats of Sunlight Cursver on it...

I'm wondering what's going to show up on CarFax when I go to sell it later this year. (Do DMVs still consider anything over $500 to be a 'significant' accident in the vehicle history?)

dozer 01-19-2009 12:38 PM

^damn so youre saying someone left a log on your car?

blappy 01-19-2009 12:44 PM

Roger that. I was extremely unhappy with humanity for a little bit. What cheered me up was imagining the surprise in the conversation at the other house:

Psycho: "So what do you think of what happened to your car?"
Ex-BF: "Huh? There's nothing wrong with my car."
Psycho: "There... ISN'T?!?!?!"

An appropriately sick response, but I really wasn't turned on by him, his Accord (I mean Acura), or the psycho...

FreshLettuce 08-23-2009 04:46 AM

anyone recently been hit with curse of the silver?

rio_rx8 08-23-2009 05:37 AM

Daammnnn am I glad for my stormy blue haha...might be a curse or might not but all those wrecked 8s makin me cringe...ouch!!

I wonder if anyones made a "wrecked 8s" thread? Find all the wrecked 8s on the internet and tally up the colors hahaha...

Pico 08-23-2009 10:04 AM

Curse hmmmmmmm I don't know. I've seen all colors wrecked, mangled, etc. However, I am convinced that Mazda is paying people to drive , find our 8 and the wreck them like a bumper car at the county fair. Why you ask? because 90% of their techs can't service the dam things anymore. Mazda quality control Haha

rodjonathan 08-23-2009 10:17 AM

thank god mine is ti grey (KNOCK ON WOOD)

Jethro Tull 08-24-2009 01:40 PM

The silver curse is pure myth.

The insurance companies have done studies and silver cars actually have about the lowest accident rate, of all makes and models.

In our local 8 club, we've lost 2 blacks this year, never a silver. Oh, and one red one was lost to a member's ex-wife in a divorce, so that's the same as totaled, as far as he is concerned, lol.

I've had my SS 2-1/2 years and I don't even have a door-ding. It's still pristine. :)

fastlaneracing 08-24-2009 02:17 PM

2 RX-8 out of 80 has been wrecked at track days in Sweden, both where.... silver.

SideOfBacon 08-24-2009 02:45 PM

Ti Grey = SS with a darker tan. ask alienrx8 who totalled his 3 months ago.

Jethro Tull 08-24-2009 02:49 PM

I seem to remember posting this a couple of years ago, but here it is again just in case I didn't. It's from a study done in New Zealand, but I recall that similar studies world-wide didn't differ too much from what is presented here:

http://www.wisegeek.com/is-there-a-l...-accidents.htm

From the article:

"The study involved accidents in New Zealand between 1998 and 1999. According to their findings, drivers of brown cars had the highest risk of sustaining serious injuries caused by auto accidents. Black and green cars also had elevated risks.

Which are the safest cars? Drivers of silver-colored cars, according to the report, have a 50% less chance of being involved in an injury-causing accident than do drivers of white cars! While the results are surprising, more studies need to be performed before we all rush out and repaint or replace our vehicles."

Good thing the RX-8 never came in brown. :puke:
