Chicago Rev It Up 4/17 pics
Went to the Chicago Rev It Up yesterday and met Sean (aka G8rboy) and two other members. It was nice meeting XcelR8 and Cruzdreamer. :D
Anyway, with the exception of having my shift **** stolen by some *******, I had a great time. I posted a fair 35.949 seconds time for a Novice in the second Competition lap. I bested my first attempt by 5 seconds (I think I got it in 3rd instead of 2nd...sports auto tranny)
Sean posted a 31.973 for his best track time.
Here are a few pictures from the day.
Sean shows off his 8.

The timed competition staging of the Mazda 3s. These were some nice little Econobox cars. Pretty nice acceleration and handling.

Here is one of the places where the pro teaches the fine points about the timed track layout and how to do your best. This is called the Driver's Lounge

It was a great day. The 8s on display got a lot of attention and looked great. Thanks G8rboy and D MANIC 7 for show off their rides. I did a 32.4 on my first run and almost spun on the second. My friend that came with me is Chris Plensdorf and if you notice the pic above of the leader board you will see him in 11 postion!! He did great and rubbed it in all the way home. I should have brought someone who couldn't drive...lol.
D MANIC 7...sorry to hear about some ******* stealing your shift ****...obviously it wasn't an 8 owner...we have too much class.

Thanks for posting these D! I can't believe I forgot to bring my camera with me. I had a great day hanging out with everyone, including you and your son, Cruz and XcelR8, and meeting so many enthusiasts... I spent a lot of time correcting some of the misconceptions and 'sky-is-falling' negative perspectives that some people had about the 8. Unfortunately, there are some real a-holes out there, like the crap that happened to your car.
Hope you have a better luck next weekend...

Thanks, guys...I appreciate it and I had a lot of fun and enjoyed it regardless. I now have a generic leather shift **** installed temporarily, it is amazing how it just doesn't feel the same.

Well my day on sunday was fun, I finally test drofve the 8. I drove once as a passenger and never ever since then, but this day was so incredible. My first run with the 8 was a rough drive but the guys the work their didnt say nothing. Well afterwords I went to take my first run at the comp. got 37.xxx with cone, then i went back to the 8 line again and waited to drive it one more time before I left to my second run. So I went ahead and got in the 8 and rolled to the start line, from there I thought to myself I wanna feel a little power of the car, so I decided to go on and dropping the clutch from 4,500rpms, and woooooooow, what a kick it had man I loved this car even though I do not own one yet,but I am planning to get it by the end of this week hopefully by the end of this month. Well once I got back from the lap, I came out and the guy told me if I do one more thiong like that I am out I was like whatever I was leaving anyway to my second run for the comp. were I got a 33.xxx. On the end of the day I got home with a big smile but also a big sunburn. I hope everyone who went enjoyed their rev it up day.

So YOU were the guy Mr. Bullhorn was upset about. He went on and on about how it's a test drive and not a race course, stop hitting cones, etc. Pretty funny. The other funny one was his announcement that if you don't know how to drive stick to get in the auto line. Somebody tried the 6-spd and lurched and stalled it a few times before being removed from the car. :o
I was pretty impressed with the 8 test drive too. It was exactly what I expected. Gotta get a job before I get one but if all goes well I may be getting an offer later this week.
And if anybody is interested, I took some pics that I'll post on my site.

Yeah, I got another that is closer to the feel. I think more so it was the lack of the hard plastic on the top besides the entirely different shape. My new one is round, aluminum and black plastic. It goes well with the interior since it actually half matches the trim around the stick shift. It's a knock off of a Momo ****.

Thanks Paulie
That looks like a very nice set up out there. Look at all those purdy RX-8s!
