deadphoenix52 04-22-2007 04:53 PM

expensive. carbon creatons kit, hows the fitment?

brad_93ls 04-22-2007 05:00 PM

actualy it all fit really well the only problem i have is the front bumper doesnt line up with the hood at all ima have to shim it so it goes up and meets the hood

CTrx8 04-22-2007 05:04 PM

so how much weight did you drop with the overhaul (other than that in your wallet)?

BigRed 04-22-2007 05:08 PM

who is IMA?

brad_93ls 04-22-2007 05:08 PM

well i didnt really lose to much got the whole kit for under $3000 but i havent got to weight it yet so ima finish up the body and hopefully get it tuned so if anyone knows any good tuners in the Indiana area let me know

BigRed 04-22-2007 05:09 PM

lol, u got the turbo before you knew any tuners?

NaarLeven 04-22-2007 05:14 PM

I saw the Pettit 20B Full Carbon Fiber race car the other day. Total shell weighs less than 70lbs they said.

brad_93ls 04-22-2007 05:18 PM

well if you wanna know the kit comes pre tuned but you can have it tuned and get more hp and better gas mileage and i know of 2 rotory tuners in Indiana but there booked up

cooldriver88 04-22-2007 05:25 PM

so you going to get a carbon hood and trunklid too???

brad_93ls 04-22-2007 05:29 PM

yea i have everything you can get carbonfiber heres some pics b4 the start on the paint.

Wanganrx8 04-22-2007 05:38 PM

wow, i would love to see how much total weight the car dropped. now make it lose some more wieght and put some bride seats in it and get a set of light weight rims.

chickenwafer 04-22-2007 05:41 PM

nice. The new Carbon fiber Ho right here

Cody Red 04-22-2007 05:45 PM

How 'bout some plexi-glass to go along with the weight reduction? Now that...I'd get.

-Cody

brad_93ls 04-22-2007 05:49 PM

yea that would be a good idea i just might have to check into that when i build my audio

deadphoenix52 04-22-2007 06:10 PM

brad, you should look at the dymag carbon fiber/magnesium wheels. way expensive tho.

Derex'8 04-22-2007 06:36 PM

Do you also have the carbon fiber front and rear passsenger doors?

supergoat 04-22-2007 06:36 PM

I'd love to do that. It's even better that you are getting it painted instead of trying to show it off. :)

brad_93ls 04-22-2007 06:38 PM

as far as i know there not out on the market yet, plus its going to b a daily driver so i highly dout i will end up with them even if you can get em

chrism 04-22-2007 09:02 PM

i would like to see close ups of where the fender meets the front bumper because i have never seen it fit right for this kit

INSPIRE 04-22-2007 09:51 PM

Do u think it's wise to loose that much weight?
Also noticed the CF parts are glossy, should've gone with the dry carbon. If u preffer it really light.

deadphoenix52 04-22-2007 09:52 PM

there used to be carbon doors for the rx8 on ebay, but i cant find them.

Xantium 04-22-2007 11:14 PM

How would it ever be unwise to lose weight on a sports car?!?

Detrich 04-22-2007 11:19 PM

does carbon fiber hold up as well as metal in accidents? ie besides being lighter, is it a safety compromise?

brad_93ls 04-22-2007 11:40 PM

well my buddy went head on with a snowplow at 25 and the only thing left of the car basicaly was the carbonfiber hood which only had a stratch so i would say its pretty nice, and as far as a real high gloss on the cf finish the whole kit has 3 fresh coats of clear beings im taking the time to repaint it a custom color i went ahead and made the cf look glossy better for shows

Ever Hernandez 04-22-2007 11:45 PM

Wow, that's a lot of carbon fiber on that car! Keep the pix coming.

Dev_Ace 04-23-2007 01:01 AM

i think it depends on the quality of the carbon fibre.

but i think generally it'll be better in accidents b/c the carbon fibre will absorb all the impact and just destroy the body parts.

that's the crappy part about cf, cant see it break normally until it's completely broken, and crazy hard to repair.... :Eyecrazy: either that or... just $$

XDEEDUBBX 04-23-2007 01:45 AM

everytime i've seen that kit, it fit like shit. One guy had to take that kit to the body shop several times just to get it decent looking.

lazi 04-23-2007 02:08 AM

i mean. going all CF is one thing.. but that kit itself is prettttty bad. it fits horribly. goodluck with that. its prob never gonna line up right

MissyK 04-23-2007 10:12 AM

wow thats different.. cant wait to c final product

VarneyMazda 04-23-2007 10:22 AM

how'd i figure ud have chrome rims :wallbash:

brad_93ls 04-23-2007 10:41 AM

um my rims are not chrome, there hyper silver, and as far as fit ment i mean its not factory smooth but in realality it fits really well only problem i have that i really dont like is the way the hood lines up with the front end but im working on fixing that

chrism 04-23-2007 10:43 AM

i dont see a way of working on fixing the issue of the front end lining up...there are others that have been burned by this company on cf......it is what it is my friend and i seriously doubt you will have a resolution to your issues

BigRed 04-23-2007 11:34 AM

+1 and that is true. u get what u pay for

brad_93ls 04-23-2007 12:45 PM

i guess we will c ive been doing body and paint for quite some time now so i really dont think that im going to have to settle for the flaws im pretty sure eventualy i will get it to fit farly well if not extremly close to factory

CTrx8 04-23-2007 12:51 PM

more power to you if you can get it to fit nicely. i'm looking forward to seeing the end product and truly hope you are able to get the fitment issues ironed out without too much hassle.

chrism 04-23-2007 02:33 PM

so you can mold and shape cf?...or are you gonna bondo over it for a flush fit?

lazi 04-23-2007 02:36 PM

^rofl

XDEEDUBBX 04-23-2007 02:40 PM

he will add more carbon weave to it!!!

brad_93ls 04-23-2007 03:36 PM

the only only problem i have is that the bumper sits to low and doesnt meet up with the hood soo i will prob. just shim the bumper up to make it line up

chrism 04-23-2007 03:51 PM

and then the corners will pop out because that is where it is messed up on all the cf kits.....unless you are the luckiest sob out there and got the perfect mold..NO ONE that has posted here has had good things to say...here are a few thread examples

Just curious what rotary shops you know of in Indiana?

Also it might be a drive for you but there is always A-spec in chicago. They seem to be pretty well liked by the 7 guys.

brad_93ls 04-23-2007 04:34 PM

um i know AIM tuning and Bonzia racing

chickenwafer 04-23-2007 05:15 PM

that's the problem with carbon fiber- if it doesn't fit, you can't really do anything about it unless you can reshape and mold CF, but that would be costly, not to mention good luck matching the original pieces weave even if you can. Otherwise the only way you're gonna get an OEM fit is to add fiberglass and top it with a layer of dry CF.

nSanity 04-23-2007 05:18 PM

He said he was gonna paint the CF anyway didn't he??? So matching the weave doesn't really matter.

canaryrx8 04-23-2007 05:25 PM

ugh man, another poor victim of carbon creations. I had originally tried to go with their MS knockoff, even in urethane, when I got it was complete and total shit, neither bumper fit, and the front didn't even have mounting holes! I love the idea of you going carbon on everything, but I would have never have wasted time or money on such a travesty of a company and such a joke of a product, hopefully you can get it all worked out and it comes out okay, but by the time you get to that point the money and time spent could have been used to perfect a kit that already fits properly. Good luck with all that, I'm not posting to give you shit, (I'm really not, hopefully your car comes out good) I'm just posting to warn people not to buy from these guys, they're crooks, their kits DO NOT fit worth a shit, and they will not help you if you try and get a refund/exchange. Worst company/kit out there for the 8, period. /rant

If u ever in a race track, They will tell u about the safety regulation. Loosing a few weight in a sports car is good just not too many. It'll throw off the weight balance. That's why they usually weigh u'r car before allowing u to race.
