A co-worker finally allowed me the opportunity to buy his unfinished 8 project. Its an 04 GT with an automatic trans. He pulled the engine in anticipation to replace it with an engine he bought for the car that allegedly has only 5k miles on it. I went and looked at it the other day and talked to my wife and she said she would love to have the car. This will be the next one I rebuild. It will be her car since its an automatic, but I'm happy to have another 8 in the family. Once he gets the title sorted out and the parts boxed up, I'll bring the car home. Not sure on the mileage or its previous history but its straight and not rusty so that's a big plug. And I have to say that I love the color!!

There will definitely be a build thread on the car. I have two other active threads in this section as well for my Nordic Green GT and my BB 04. My oldest son now wants to sell his 88 RX-7 and buy a blue 6spd car for his first car. Something about a Winning Blue RX-8 has him hooked. It was more beautiful in person than in any picture that I had ever seen. I'm really looking forward to getting it home and getting my wife more excited for the car. If she doesn't like it, I'll 6spd swap it and drive it myself or give it to my son. I have a spare 6 port engine just waiting for a rebuild on the garage floor.

Like I said before, cleaned up the winning blue looks fantastic.
the R3 wheels took forever to find a decent set at a good price and like you said look fantastic, did nothing for performance tho
New member! I purchased my first 8 a few months ago, winning blue, of course. It's an '05 6-speed manual. I'm very happy with it, but have a number of cosmetic mods in mind and will need to repaint a number of scratched areas. Also, trying to correct some of the "performance" mods the previous owner did, like the over-zealous air intake modding mistake. Going to do some research on here and ask some questions eventually, because I am taking an embedded processor programming class and want to make my class project based on this car.

Welcome to the addiction if you have not yet done so, read the new owners thread No really read this! Which intake is on the car? Racing beat and aem/mazdaspeed are the only ones apart from OEM that any one should put in their car.
ps post up some pics

I'll get pics as I get spare time and I have that link open and bookmarked to read asap. Prev owner wasted like $250 on a Takeda short ram intake, basically, and when I asked he didn't have the original equipment that I could reinstall. Stealership commented that the intake is making the engine run a bit rough because of the conditions it causes. I've been trying to at least find the OEM MAF section with screens, but no luck.
It also had Bennetbuilt coils of which the dealership said one seemed to be burnt up and/or possibly two were shorting on each other. The wires looked a little rough, too. I had to have the car towed there after only a few days owning it because it started misfiring so badly it would stall itself (and O2 sensor ring was bright orange after finally getting it home to park it) and couldn't (shouldn't) be driven at all. They gave me back the coils and wires, but only one spark plug (filthy black), that they pulled off and replaced with factory to get the car running again.
Odometer shows 150k miles, prev guy claimed the engine is from a totaled one and probably has now 35k-40k miles on it.

RX8 is under the knife right now. Switching all the suspension and differential bushings to polyurethane. Also fixing my drl module and doing something unusual with the exhaust. Stay tuned. Should be fun
