bought my first RX-8

today i picked up my first RX-8. its almost exactly what i wanted. i really wanted the touring package, but took the sport because it had basically everything i wanted, save for the moonroof...but i can live without that. its brilliant black, has the wonderful 6spd, black cloth interior, and rear spoiler. mileage is 30K. car was $12,900. so far, no known problems. i am very pleased with the car. i've waited SOOO long to own an RX-8 and i couldnt be happier. here's one pic from my phone that i took. i'll post more tomorrow when i can take pics in the daylight.

mazdaverx7 12-12-2008 08:03 PM

kevintsai6977, to answer your question, i tried to buy a new one in 04....no such luck. i've been searching fro the right deal since and i'm at a point in my life where i have a good job, i own a home, i've got a wonderful wife and daughter, and a son due any day..sure it was a spurt of the moment purchase but what is life without being spontanius..too predictable and thats not how i live.

here are two quick pics i just took of the interior:

if you are interested, i have a very nice brilliant black 88 TII that i will be selling. i still have 7 RX-7's..most will have to go due to this purchase though...

wow congrats! 12.9k for a 30k mile car ain't so bad

i know what it's like to wait. heck, i've been wanting this car since i saw the rx-evolv

mazdaverx7 12-13-2008 07:28 AM

i remember when the RX-EVOLV came out. i remember having a poster of it on the wall by my bed..i was probably 17 or 18..can't remember but what i do know is that i do not know where the poster is nor any of my bedside RX-7 posters and test sheets. i might have to go to my parents house today and do some hunting.at any rate i thought the price was fair..its just a shame that most of my car collection has to go. i've got a handful of RX-7's to sell, a 92 Camry SE V6 5spd, a 95 Ranger, two parts cars, one FC one FB, and a HUGE overstock of RX-7 parts...i just want to pay the car off.

Renesis07 12-13-2008 07:34 AM

Eh Im interested but broke right now lol, unless you have a cheapy one lying around, Id be interested as buying as a DD

mazdaverx7 12-13-2008 07:57 AM

i've got an 85 S that i was autocrossing. really nice car though. $1800. car is 80% completely restored. http://www.rx7club.com/showthread.php?t=751475

congrats man! welcome home!

mazdaverx7 12-13-2008 02:01 PM

i've never owned a warranty with any 7 i've bought so this is a first for me. i've been driving the car ALL day...i cant stay out of it. i figured that i'd give it a rest for a bit. i washed the car earlier and it looks terrible due to the road dirt but i decided to take the pics anyways. here are a few more of the car:

looks good, time to get some clear corners

mazdaverx7 12-13-2008 02:32 PM

the clear corner light suggestions keep coming in. is that what a lot of BB 8 owners are doing? are they canadian spec parts?

greg985 12-13-2008 02:43 PM

majority of 8 owners have clear corners, I think the amber side markers look like crap. Amber markers are for the US only

mazdaverx7 12-13-2008 08:41 PM

the only thing i really dont care for is the front license plate bracket....but here in ohio, its against the law to drive a vehicle without a front plate...so i'm stuck with it. i could remove it but when i drove it to work (i'm a police officer) i'm thikning someone might say something...not so good, lol.

mazdaverx7 12-14-2008 03:28 PM

after a closer inspection under the hood today, it appears as if the dealer has not performed the 30K mile service as they had advised that they did. i'll be calling them in the morning.

sfredrx8 12-14-2008 06:25 PM

Congratulations! Your RX8 looks great. I will recommend a set of Rotary Accent insert on your front and rear bumper if you are not going to change your body kit. Perahps upgrading your interior to leather since you are going to drive it to work every day...Also, it will be great to drop in a new K&N air filter replacement if you stay with the stock air intake. Have fun with your new toys. Happy holidays...

Race Roots 12-14-2008 06:36 PM

Very Nice!

thank you. the car was washed and the dirt on the car was from the mile drive back to the house. its going to be tough keeping this car clean. but i wanted black so i'll have to deal with that :) i do want the rotary acents for the front and rear. i'm going to keep the cloth because i'm tired of leather interior. my wife's car has leather, two of my RX-7's have leather and though eaiser to maintain and keep clean the more worried i am about the durability over the next 20 years that i own the car. the car will be my daily driver but i will not be driving the car to work. i'm a police officer and the p.d. has kindly given me a take home cruiser that i drive to work. i'm saving for a racing beat REVi intake setup. if i stay with the stock intake a k&n is my first choice in filter. i'm maitenance freak so this car will be VERY well taken care of. thank you for the suggestions and the holiday wishes!

smy266 12-14-2008 09:36 PM

You should finish off the remaining appearance package parts.

if the snow would stop here and the roads would magically not be salted, i might get a chance to drive my new 8. i've got about 140 miles on the car since my first fill up and i'm down to almost a quarter tank. brings back memories of summer and driving my 88 10th Anniversary RX-7. i'll get an accurate mpg reading in a couple of days at my next fill up.

damn dude, for 14k u coulda got my car thats in the forsale thread. GT w/ only 37k

mazdaverx7 12-21-2008 10:45 AM

i saw the car and its a beautiful car, but i really didnt want leather and i wanted brilliant black. the penalty of buying from a dealer is the fees. even if i bought your WB GT, i still would have to pay sales tax, title fees and such and the price would be nearly 16K. i wanted the lower monthly payment which i got. i only financed $12,600:

and beautiful fb. i cant believe you're selling it for only $1800. i would honestly buy it tomorrow if i had my own place with a garage.

elcolombiano91 12-24-2008 08:48 PM

nice what kinds of mods do u have in mind?

rglbegl 12-24-2008 09:02 PM

I love this thread.
"bought my first 8" would imply this is the first of many.
And after seeing the collection, it looks like there may be more 8 in his future.

Great cars you got. Love the old Falcon. My dad is an old car guy, so I was raised on American old skool cars.

szym0n 12-24-2008 09:14 PM

get ur clutch bracket welded before it gets messy. I had mine crack @ 3am and it wasnt fun, I was lucky to get to my garage...get more welds to it or buy a reinforcement bracket

:) you've caught on before my wife has. little does she know, this will be the first of many :) she told me tonight how happy she is that i bought a new car and that it can carry all four in our family (sans the cat and dog of course). i love the RX-8 so much i figure that when this one is payed off in a year or so that i may opt for another 05 or 06 VRM RX-8...

the Falcon is a special car to me. i grew up with a grandfather for a dad. greatest man i've ever met. at any rate, he told me that when i graduated high school he would buy me a new car of my choice. well, unfortunatly his life was cut short and he never got to see me graduate high school. before he died, he asked me which car i wanted out of his collection. i chose the Falcon because he showed me things about the car and showed me how to shift the old three on the tree. that car i hope to pass down to my son.

i've looked into that. i've decided that i'm just going to weld a bracket for my current pedal. this seems to be a common problem with the Acura TSX's as well. a good friend of mine had already experienced that. thank you for the heads up though.

The Drunk IT Guy 12-30-2008 02:18 PM

Sweet, it looks like by BB GT. You probably got a better deal though, I paid 18k two years ago for mine with bald brakes and tires.

You must tint the windows though, it looks dramatically better. I never got around to getting clear corners and I've got my stupid front plate on. I suppose I'm trying to keep it pull-over-excuse proof, I'd rather earn my tickets!

mazdaverx7 01-03-2009 01:03 AM

well, no tint for me.. even if i wanted to, it woldnt be a good idea. just so happens i'm a cop..and i live in the town i work in..and i drive the car to work here and there. they'd probably frown on the tint..although i did remove my front plate holder..i realy didnt like the look of it :)

Yea me niether, but after getting pulled over 3 times within a month for taking my front plate off, I did some minor customization to my front plate, see pic.

Great thread, and congrats on the new boy!

I love your 7 7s and especially the Falcon. My Dad had an older one with a great story to it also. I saw a truck too and you mentioned your wife's car. Where do you keep all these beautiful cars?

Does your 8 really handle better than all your 7s, even your autocross car?

mazdaverx7 01-03-2009 01:25 PM

thank you...well i keep a lot of the cars at my inlaws shop. its an 80X100 three bay work shop. i occupy most of the space there. i keep my 88 F-150 and my 8 in the driveway here at home. my 85 GS which i'm converting to an EGI setup occuppies my car and a half garage until finished and then the 8 will go in there. my mother is kind enough to allow me to keep my 88 10AE, and my 80 LS in the garage over there as well as my 85 S (autoX'r), 93 Camry SE(V6 with a 5mt none the less), and my 95 Ranger is there as well. so i'm really blessed to have a good family that supports my addiction!

the 8 handles a lot better than the 85 S that i autocross. the 85's tires are not up to par and it could use a better shock/strut and spring setup. i'm papmered by the RX-8. its probably the most amazing car i have ever owned. not even my 10th Anniversary RX-7 gets as much attention as the 8.

whats the story behind your dad's Falcon?

He bought it from a used car lot, not even a Ford dealer, no warranty. Little sky blue 2-door. Engine failed at around 50k miles. He was an mechanical engineer and couldn't accept the fact that an engine would fail so soon so he wrote a letter to the Ford Motor Company, explaining why he, as an engine designer, thought it must have been a defective engine. Even though there was no documentation as to how the previous owner had maintained the car, Ford agreed to give him a brand new engine and to have it installed free of charge. My Mom says he put a lot of work into that letter. My Dad bought a lot of Fords after that.

Later on in his life, he wrote Volkswagon a letter congratulating them on their Diesel Rabbit and offered to be a test owner. They authorized him to receive a free German buildt '79 Diesel Rabbit that I eventually inherited for a year after college before giving it to my little brother. My Dad designed Diesel engines, loved them with a passion, but would never spend the money to buy a Mercedes. Later on, he bought an American made Diesel Rabbit but didn't like the color combinations offered so he called up the plant manager and convinced him to make a custom one with a green and blue interior/exterior color combination. He was color blind but he was convinced that it would be a great color combo on that car for some reason.

When he died several years ago, and his coffin was being placed in the hearse after the funeral, all of the sudden I got the idea of telling the driver to drive really fast to the cemetary because my Dad always like to drive fast. He did.

kersh4w 01-03-2009 03:47 PM

aww, thats a nice story rob.
