I see that picture was takin at the RX-8's favorite location, the gas station :D

Congrats!

aireyc 12-05-2004 08:29 PM

Congrats on the 8! It looks sexy.

Chris

mysql101 12-05-2004 08:38 PM

Very nice :) Classy color :)

bmcc49er 12-05-2004 08:41 PM

Hey you have a full tank of gas! I would be happy also. On another note that idiot in the first pic doesn't realize how dangerous it can be to use cellphones while pumping gas I guess.

valpac 12-05-2004 08:41 PM

Looks like your DSC is off? No?

valpac 12-05-2004 08:43 PM

Off topic.

Not dangerous. Ever watch Mythbusters?

bmcc49er 12-05-2004 08:45 PM

No, haven't seen it, but the warning signs on the pumps would make it seem to be a legit concern or why bother?

mysql101 12-05-2004 08:45 PM

Cell phones don't create static.

If you look up the numbers, fires at gas stations are usually started by women. The reasoning is they are more likely to get in and out of the car - rubbing on the seats causes static which can then ignite the gas fumes. Always touch some metal area on your car, don't get in and out of your car, and don't rub your feet on the ground :)

I'm not sure why cell phones are not allowed, maybe it's got something to do with people who aren't paying attention to what they're doing.

LOL thats what I was going say

Thanks guys - I'm very excited; Frankly, driving around in the rain tonite, even w/ the trac-control off, the car was never out of line, except when prodded ;) hehe

:D

yay! :)

kreuznach 12-06-2004 01:49 AM

Don'cha wish you would have had one of these when you were in BK? I spent my 3 years driving Polos and Beetles. The drive up to Sembach or over to Alzey. Those were great roads.

Congratulations on the new '8 :D

RXE16T 12-06-2004 03:50 AM

Clean car........now get some clear corners and fender strakes. :)

cgrx 12-06-2004 04:14 AM

Sweet ride

get clear corners first and ASAP

dmp 12-06-2004 06:06 AM

The clear corners will come soon; as soon as I find out the best place to buy them! hehe :) The strakes will come next...then I can't seen any mods for quite some time. The car has all the power I need; although I still need to confirm which Flash the ecu has.

Ever own an RX? You might want to turn it on for a while.

Just a friendly suggestion from a concerned Owner.

I haven't owned one prior. I'll turn it on when things get nasty - so far, the car handles just fine in the rain. No different than my miata with old tires.

:)

Cept the ride is better.

I did notice that once I turn the traction control 'all the way' off, i can't turn it back on - without shutting off the car, and re-starting.

Benedick 12-06-2004 08:30 AM

Don't you find the bright white gauges distracting? If you turn the dimmer down just past the click, you'll change the gauges to a nice red color, which just looks trick when you turn on the lights.

I'm curious: how many people here prefer the white gauges at night to red?

I drove with the white gauges for about 10 minutes before it was just too much... :) hehe

I prefer the Red now.

The white shows up in pics better, however.

:D

8's enough 12-06-2004 08:38 AM

i like the red gauges .white is waaaay too bright.i even turn my nav to green so it's not that bright.

LucasET 12-06-2004 11:34 AM

You know, it so funny that everyone wants to get clear corners here in the US. In Japan, they have the clear ones, and people probably try to get the ornage ones. My 8 is Sunlight Silver, and I personally like the orange markers better than clear. I'd prefer to save my money for gas or something. I suppose I like cars to look like they came from the factory, a fit and finish thing, even if the car has some kind of kit, like RB's new one....it has clean lines and no splitters or rediculous spoilers or anything...the majority of us don't need them. The clear side markers just look too "aftermarket" for me....kinda like when someone puts euro tail lights on a civic. *Disclaimer: This is just my opinion, and you are entitled to yours, so don't rip on me*

LucasET 12-06-2004 11:36 AM

And yeah, the white gauges lasted about 15 minutes on my car.

I'm not going to rip on you, but the only reason why I put it on and my other cars is because orange does not match anything on the car and so it's cleaner looking; simply aesthetic.

Back on topic, Congrats DMP! Glad, we got you convinced!

ZoomZoomH 12-06-2004 11:53 AM

congrats dmp

dmp 12-06-2004 12:39 PM

thanks, everyone - it sure feels good to be an owner :)

fwiw, I called MUSA with my VIN; they stated I have the MPS04 Flash - as of 3? September; as long as i'm not getting a CEL, there's no need for any further updates.

slllygrl10 12-06-2004 01:06 PM

Looks very clean!! Congrats

Very bright. And the nav screen is so bright the cars following have no trouble using it either:D

Yeah but... the RX-8 has more oversteer than the Miata. Its very easy for the back to snap around pretty unexpected whether intentional or not. Especially in the rain.

...not more oversteer than 'my' miata :D I've plenty of road/track experience in very quick-handling machines.

hehe :)

Thanks to RacingBeat. I'll play it cool, though, until I learn the car. I can't have me wadding my pretty new car.

Thanks!

dmp 12-06-2004 04:22 PM

wow! Lots of moving threads...lol Guess "I got an RX8" isn't general discussion, but 'media' if it includes pics :)

:D

I keep the headlights on for daytime "running lights" (why hasn't anyone but GM picked up on this safety feature?) so I'm constantly switching the white display off and on. I'm sure glad that Mazda gave us the option.

Happy TWO YEAR anniversary to me! I'd post up a Pic, but the car's at the dealers' getting it's F'ING ENGINE replaced :(

:-/

:)

7andan8 12-05-2006 09:41 PM

Darin without a pic of his car! That's a sadder note than your 8 getting a new engine. Surely you can pull up an old pic?

Everybody's seen all my old rx8 pics. :( hehe ;)

ZoomZoomH 12-05-2006 11:08 PM

ooh 2 years old gogogogo

dmp 12-06-2009 07:26 AM

Five years later - Car has 58k miles and runs fine.

Replaced:

Engine
Transmission
Coils
Wires
Cat (twice)
Plugs (twice)
Battery
Starter
Clutch

Modified: TEIN Basics coil overs, Black RPF1s, MS Flywheel, RB Intake and Exhaust, leather interior swap

Car drives better today than day one - probably makes about the same amount of HP, but it just feels better. Every time I think about selling it I look at it for 5 seconds and think "there's nothing that looks this good or drives this well for less than $40-50k".

Can it be EIGHT YEARS since I got my car? Easily the car I've owned the longest. The car is driven nearly daily now - shows 88030 miles. Still absolutely LOVE it.

Me too - I avoid winter driving to avoid salt; can't imagine seeing it rusting away.

FI? Naw...I value the car's reliability more than I'd want another 50whp or whatever. As-is I could flog the car for hours on end at the track and drive it home w/o a worry. Adding FI would remove that comfort. Would rather have the car w/ it's original 215hp at the crank, for 15 years, than have 285hp for 15 months.

Thanks - 18x9.5, 35 offset. Tires - in that pic - advan ad07 (if I recall), 265/30/18. Now use Conti DWS - which absolutely SUCK in snow (tried it in our frist 1" snowfall last week) after driving on them all spring and summer for the past year or so.

alnielsen 12-06-2012 07:49 AM

I've had the car 8 1/2 yrs now. It has been daily driven until recently. I now have a Jeep Cherokee which will do all the winter duty. The 8 is rusting out in the right rear fender and I need to change out some of the suspension pieces, due to corrosion, so I can do an alignment.
