Best looking wheels you have ever seen on the RX8!
some pics. just got tires on, but haven't got center caps on... i decided to do the center caps in satin clear and leaving the centers in chrome without any overlay, though chrome finish dulls up rather quickly when it comes in contact with anything from what i've experienced.
i'll most likely refinish the centers with a clear, or a satin clear overlay after it dulls or maybe just leave alone...
the bbs emblems are sanded and waiting to be cleared before re-inserting into the center caps housings after satin finish is applied. but that will all be another day.
hope this gives an idea to those who likes BBS RS and what to expect it to look like on a 8. (the centers should be re-bore to be hubcentric to the larger 8's hub)
tires are yokohama S4 235/50/17 all seasons on 17x9 RS330

Ahh Ha! Ever since I saw your wheels at Forged Performance last summer I have been searching for them. Didn't know they were painted. They look awesome btw!
Looks great, just hope it lasts. Powdercoating is the preferred choice for wheels. Do you know how many layers of clear they put on? What prep work was done to be sure no chipping will occur from stress flex?
Thanks
I chose to have them painted over being powder coated for ease of repair and not exposing the wheels to heat. Lots of debate on this subject and plenty of strong opinions on either side.
The shop I use has a lot of experience with painting wheels. They use a brand of paint they know that holds up well (Oregon uses gravel during the Winter
). I know they use multiple coats of clear as well. They even bought a machine just for painting wheels. It breaks the bead of the tire and pushes it back. They paint the few inches of exposed area inside the wheel as well as the outside. It saves the owner from having to dismount/remount their tires.

Actually that is a huge misconception, powdercoating is not preffered at all. If you can find a manufactuers wheel thats been powdercoated within the last 10-15 yrs Id like to see it(a little bit of a generalization, Im sure there are a few, maybe EuroMarket). Powdercoating will corrode almost all alloys over time due to the finite size of the particles being used,,, Modernday paints and top coats are very durable, have an almost endless variety (color choice) and the preffered method for OE, Aftermarket and custom jobs,,,

Nice. Sounds like they know what they are doing. Looks fantastic by the pics. I bet it will look killer on the car.
Thanks

mine were painted satin black by a guy who does basically the same thing that pdxhak's shop did. only he dismounts tires to paint the entire wheel.

AutoRND, one of our forum's vendors. Rishie is an awesome guy and manages to have awesome prices on everything he sells! I bought my suspension from him, wish I'd known to ask him for a quote when I was shopping for wheels, would've saved around $200 over tirerack when all was said and done.

I did the same thing.... the biggest decision maker for this argument would be, Name a wheel company that has a wheel on the market that is powder coated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

^^hehe... yes they would. but also likewise on the 8, due to all the diamond shape design we have all over our cars.
i'd likey to get me some mazda bbs centercaps to top off the icing on the cake one day.
even though its 17s, hows the bbs look on the 8?
