Bad Sunday morning

So there I was lazing away watching some TV this morning when all of a sudden I hear that familiar crunch of hawt bumper on bumper action from outside the house. The second the alarm went off I knew it was my 8 :(. My sister's friend was backing up her Lexus RX330 from the driveway which is at a steep downward angle, put it into NEUTRAL instead of drive then blammo. Front bumper is gone along with the hood and the front sub frame, also leaking coolant. I'll be going through insurance so hopefully I'll see about getting an aftermarket front bumper and maybe a CF hood.

LOL, she was crying hysterically, I sorta felt bad for her.

Any tips on how to work the body shop/getting aftermarket parts magic is appreciated as I've never had to go through accident insurance like this before :D:

moonkid 10-11-2009 02:31 PM

The Reverend 10-11-2009 02:38 PM

It will rise from the ashes as a phoenix from beyond the planes of existence

mike[piston eater] 10-11-2009 02:39 PM

if you play your card right you might have some rims :D

ferg 10-11-2009 02:53 PM

that will buff out

The Reverend 10-11-2009 02:59 PM

Yeah it runs but the coolant will leak out after a couple of minutes. Also the front part of the sub frame is beyond my capabilities to fix. I'll just be taking it to a shop and get new shite

DarkLord7854 10-11-2009 03:25 PM

That sucks, I'm surprised you let the friend live. :p:

Easy_E1 10-11-2009 03:30 PM

Sorry about the car.
Your best bet is to find an aftermarket bumper that is comparable in price to the replacement Mazda original bumper. Ask the body shop to price one after you make a choice on which one you want. If it's the same price as factory, or less your in. Or you could cover any additional cost out of pocket.
Now body work for fitment is going to be additional. Paint and paint prep is included as they would have to do that to a new Mazda bumper anyway. So get a good brand, not a knock off.

Good luck.

05rx8mazda 10-11-2009 03:54 PM

The bumper will only be worth 300 bucks and you will get a reman... also idk about the hood but are the headlights damaged?? i remember mine were scuffed and they also included them in the repair order... I knew someone with a shop and the got me my front bumper mazdaspeed =] then i went in and got the headlights replaced at the mazda dealership cause they were getting foggy... win win!

chino0314 10-11-2009 04:04 PM

Should be no problem to get an aftermarket bumper, there is no need for a claims adjuster to say that a little bondo will touch it up,,, Same thing happpened to me 4yrs ago, now the body shop will write up the apprasied value of the oem bumper, if the aftermarket one you are looking for is more you can work something out with them to where you will just pay the difference in the cost of the bumper. The labor should not be a problem whatever it comes to be they will get reimbursed from your insurance co.
Good Luck,,,

9krpmrx8 10-11-2009 07:05 PM

Yep, and make sure for everything else you get new Mazda OEM only. Demand it. They will try and slap aftermarket junk or used shit on there. Just got to a reputable shop.

Gr8Bullet 10-11-2009 07:25 PM

Damn bro that sucks!!! I'm sad now!:tear:
your car looked so nice too! Hopefully you can
get the cf hood and aftermarket bumper.

dshiznit1489 10-11-2009 08:40 PM

dammit sorry man. Bang your sisters hot friend. Any pics of her? :naughty:

mbentley 10-12-2009 09:47 AM

wow, that definitely sucks. could have been worse. if you do not have a body shop you have been to before, i would definitely check around. ask your friends, family, etc to see what sort of experience they have had. i would not go with whatever default place the insurance company wants to send it. if you have time, check out the shop before having work done. if they have before/after pictures of previous work, that is always a plus too.

lepichichi 10-12-2009 10:04 AM

damn that sux, do i hear mazdaspeed bumper coming its way :)

Intake looks fine I don't know where the coolant leak is coming from though. My sensor was bad though so I'll probably get a new piece which means no more radiator light :wiggle:

MS or something else :suspect:

Rotr8 and 9k thank you for your input as well :)

9krpmrx8 10-12-2009 04:47 PM

Oh, and don't forget about a loss of value claim against her insurance. Your car will lose more (if that is even possible) since it has been wrecked. Pm me if you want and I will give you a sample letter that worked for my friends car.

chunbelievable 10-12-2009 05:37 PM

+1 on the get reparations form the sister's hot friend.

EDIT: Whoops, missed the whole Ron Weasley +50 pounds description.

Bighurk 10-12-2009 11:03 PM

Pico 10-13-2009 12:20 AM

Man that some BS. Sorry to read, then see it...

That look might help out with fuel mileage.

xun4gvn4everx 10-14-2009 11:47 AM

What did the estimate come to from the shop? Another point on the bright side is you get your front repainted so no more rock chips!! :wiggle:

I should have the estimate today I'll update this post, but I noticed that the impact from her car sent mine into a tree and my authentic MS wing is scratched. Also the owner of the car that hit me wants to do everything outside of insurance.

mbentley 10-14-2009 12:08 PM

i wonder if she has any idea how much it is going to cost her...

xun4gvn4everx 10-14-2009 12:09 PM

I would say shady biznus, but it is your sisters friend, so knowing this, I would doubt they would try to screw you.

mbentley 10-14-2009 12:10 PM

...at the same time, i would want a guarantee that it is going to be fixed correctly and that it is going to be paid for in full.

xun4gvn4everx 10-14-2009 12:12 PM

You should get a singed, notarized contract with them so you watch out for yourself at the legal standpoint.

NgoRX8 10-14-2009 12:16 PM

wow, not a pretty damage. time for an upgrade. good luck rev.

xun4gvn4everx 10-14-2009 12:18 PM

oooooooooooooooooo upgrade!!!!

xun4gvn4everx 10-14-2009 12:21 PM

But this Pringles setup would look dope!!!

And, I really do hope your intake didn't get damaged

Krazed_Rx8 10-14-2009 12:51 PM
