I felt the same way about the pre-production yellow we saw for 2 years. The red was a breath of fresh air then. But now I have to agree, it's getting old.

 

The difference was that back then they only had a yellow car. Now they have a half dozen available colors to choose from.

"Hey Fred, time for another RX-8 shoot. Wanna use the Green?"

"Nah, fsck 'em, bring the red."

 

I believe Mazda picked the Red as the RX-8 signiture color, so that is all you are going to get to see for a while. It is one of only a couple of colors that are supposed to be an exclusive RX-8 forumulation. I don't remember which other colors are specific to the RX-8. At least I think I read or heard that somewhere. Based on some of the pictures I have seen I am not even sure the pre-production models had the same red the production cars will. The production cars seem deeper and/or darker but that may just be the lighting.

Think yourself lucky we are stuck with a J-SPEC winning blue that is currently doing the rounds in the UK. Its now at the seen it done it bought the t-shirt stage.
