2005 Corvette and RX-8

5 Attachment(s)
My father-in-law just bought a new 2005 Corvette and brought it over to show me. Some of the options on this car are unbelievable. To open the door you just press a button inside the door and it electronically opens for you. It doesn't have a key either. They give you a pad that you keep in your pocket and it tells the car's computer that you can open the door or start the car. I also included a picture of the start button. No keys needed hear. The car is a rocket. I stepped on the gas and I thought the front end was going to come up. It is much nicer then any Corvette I have ever seen before. Take a look at the headlights. They look exotic. Well that is enough talking. Enjoy the pics. Hopefully, I can upload them properly. Here goes nothing.

C6? More like C-sex am I rite?

I wonder if pops would notice if you swapped drivetrains one weekend?

EDIT: Is it just me or do the wheel openings look waaaay too big for the stock wheel/rubber?

thew 10-03-2004 12:55 PM

i want a vett :)

Jeffjett 10-03-2004 01:05 PM

Love that 200 MPH speedo. 400 HP. Very sweet car.

philodox 10-03-2004 01:09 PM

Is that an automatic tranny in that vette? If so..... why?

kn34 10-03-2004 01:34 PM

is it just me or are there about 80% more autos than manuals in the vettes. sweet car. love the start buton. kinda low redline for a vette. but i would drive it. what does he think of your 8 now that he has a vette

XDEEDUBBX 10-03-2004 02:02 PM

nice car but i still like the 8 better...

RX-Hachi 10-03-2004 02:41 PM

shelleys_man_06 10-03-2004 05:00 PM

Corvettes are unbelievably gorgeous. One day, I'll have an LS6-powered C4 and my GT35R-powered RX-8 in the same garage. :)

VelociRedBeast 10-03-2004 06:39 PM

Oh my god!!! I love that vette...I have to go change my pants now..

Mikelikes2drive 10-03-2004 07:08 PM

not 9000 revs though :/ hehe but yah id take that car over the 8 neday sorry to say :/ damn your car is clean though chameleon... just waxed it?

Rob Tomlin 10-03-2004 09:26 PM

Personally I still prefer the exterior looks of the C5 slightly. The C6 may grow on me more with time though.

A friend at work just bought a new C5 for an amazingly low price. Great looking car on the exterior, but man the RX-8's interior was far superior. I can't believe what a Fisher-Price type of interior the C5 has. The C6 appears to be an improvement (but still not as good as the 8).

Thanks for the great response everyone. It is one bad ass car. That thing can get up and move.

Philodox, to answer your question about the tranny. I said the same thing, but he just doesn't want to be bothered with the manual transmission. Trust me, that car does not need any more power then it already has.

KN34, he still likes my car also. It isn't as fast, but he loves the styling of the 8.

Mikelikes2drive, thanks for the compliment on the clean car. I haven't waxed it since May, but it does have about 16 coates of liquid glass on it since I bought it last September. I plan to wax it again this weekend.

RXE16T 10-04-2004 07:48 AM

400HP V8..... what more do you need?

250HP (maybe?) 2Rotor ....... and a 9000rpm redline, that's what.

Hey, to each his own. I have never been a fan of automatics. I like having more control over my vehicle. When I eventually have kids and such, you bet i'm going to look for a mini-van that has stock.. hehe... The C6 is still a sweet car. If i had 20k more when I bought my RX-8, well.. I would be driving the C6... hehe

If the C6 was available in Singapore, I'd find a way to raise the extra dough. Too bad that Chev only sells the Australian version of the Lumina here. Is it too much to ask for Chev to retool the car so that the steering wheel is on the right? hehe :) Lol anyway, in Sing dollars the C6 would probably cost over $200k

savedsol 10-04-2004 09:13 AM

I haven't bothered asking the company, but do you suppose one of the Rx-7 LS1 conversions might be able to work in the 8?

TODreamer 10-04-2004 09:23 AM

Did he let you drive it?

Gambitx 10-04-2004 09:57 AM

Nice now thats a sweet garage

Hey quick question. I applied some liquid glass on my '03' altima and when the humidity hits here in tampa the car look like sh$t. I dont know how bad it gets in Cali. but here it makes the cars look horrible. Any suggestions on what to do. Or should I just get rid of it

shorty911 10-04-2004 11:23 AM

i like your cars alot man definately feeling them i also like your dog on your icon i used to have a weimaraner for about a year she was great we were really close but my parents got rid of her because she was too hyper and they both work during the day i was mad for a long time but it was best for her i love those dogs though they are so much fun

Chameleon 10-04-2004 11:25 AM

TODreamer, he did let me drive it. It has a lot of power and a smooth ride. It is a lot smoother then the 2001 Corvette he traded in. It feels a lot more powerful also.

Kn34, I have been using Liquid Glass for years and never had any problems with humidity. I like it because it really protects the car. I accidentally hit my car with my car key and it didn't even scratch the car.

She is a great dog. Her name is Lexi. We woke her up when she was sleeping and she made that angry face. I just had to use it as my Avatar. I know what you mean about the hyper disposition. She is only a year and a half so she likes to run all over the place. We will take her to the park every now and then to give her some exercise. That will usually tucker her out enough to be calm during the night.

Ajax 10-04-2004 01:08 PM

Nice cars.. The LS2 s a great engine. Pontiac threw it in the 2005 GTO too. Nice Weim btw. I have a Vizsla myself.

rxeightr 10-04-2004 07:37 PM

Was driving north on I-65 today towards Louisville, and saw a portable parking lot-full of new Vettes heading south.

My neck still hurts from when I snapped it to look as they went by.

What's better than a Corvette? A bunch of them. Tell your dad in law congrats on a beautiful ride.

ALMOST8IT 10-04-2004 11:34 PM

The C6 is by far the nices vette yet. Thanks for the post.

wakeech 10-05-2004 09:25 AM

i'm sure it's a very nice car, but i hate those headlights, and that grille (especially the grille, it's just so japanese it's crazy...). the headlights should have been something really special, instead of ricer specials, that look like they're trying to copy the latest fat Fiat's.

other'n that, i like the styling. the car has been pulled back in tighter on itself, many of the cues on the back hatch remind me of the C4, the new door lines and beautiful fenders are really great, the ass is still fat (but i guess everyone's used to seeing them).

i bet you can still get near 30 mpg when you're cruising in that thing, too.

Buckeye3d 10-05-2004 09:33 AM

The new C6 looks badass. If I had more moolah and was in the market for a new car I'd likely get one. As it is 30K was about the most I could comfortably afford right now and I'm loving my 8. :)

Overport 10-05-2004 06:23 PM

i think the new c6 looks way better than the outgoing c5. the headlights do look more exotic, like a ferrari 360 modena imo. why the automatic tranny? you wont get the full experience that way!

Ellar 10-05-2004 10:01 PM

It has its own style now, instead of looking like an upmodel FD...

JeRKy 8 Owner 10-05-2004 11:09 PM

I thinkthe reason why the automatic vettes sell morethan the stick ones do is b/c your typical vette owner today is in the 35 - 65 range and doesntwant to deal w/the hassle of shifting. Also w/400 horsepower that automatic can surelyhold its own.

c2k4-8 10-06-2004 09:54 AM

I had a 2000 Vette.... and one day I will have another Vette! Stopped by the local Chevy dealer yesterday to take a look at these. Much better in person. Love hurts!

Frank Patrick 10-06-2004 12:52 PM

Best looking new car out there- have you seen the 05 Mustang GT!!

I have seen the Mustang on the internet and I'm still undecided on whether or not I like the new styling. I guess I will make my decision when I see it in person.

buzzardsluck 10-06-2004 02:40 PM

Im sure will all see the new stang when its broken down on the highway. lol I really dislike fords(yes i know who owns mazda but my car sticker said 97% was made in japan figure ford cant screw it up too bad)

canaryrx8 10-06-2004 03:16 PM

actually on this car the auto is only a few seconds slower than the stick, according to this site anyway

http://www.c6registry.com/Hot_News/

too bad our auto's aren't that close to the 6 speed, that would hopefully squish all the senseless auto bashing on this site :)

canaryrx8 10-06-2004 03:18 PM

oh and I love the c6, the last gen and this one have really been an improvement as far as the exterior goes (at least in my opinion)

"the hassle of shifting?" Whats the freakin' point of driving!

Ktreece777 02-01-2005 11:34 PM

The Headlights look Mercury Cougar Exotic... by the way the new Z06 has the same steering wheel as us... well close

Captain Amazing 02-02-2005 12:31 AM

Definately a nice car. But am I crazy to think that the RX-8 looks better?

Nigandahu 02-02-2005 12:39 AM

Holy Shit, I can get S pricing on this car because my Uncle has the hookups. I can get a base C6 for 38K!!

http://img161.exs.cx/img161/6104/c68he.jpg

Soooo tempting.

ALMOST8IT 02-02-2005 06:58 PM

DO IT DO IT DO IT.
I love my 8, but the new Corvette is a whole new level of performance above the 8, plus it looks great.

irish8 02-02-2005 10:20 PM

Very, very nice!! Chevy have done an amazing job with the new vette. I'm impressed. The value for money is outstanding.

Youre only 18 right? Youll understand in another 10 - 15 years.

KyBlu 02-03-2005 06:25 AM

I owned a 2004 RX8 and got rid of it for a 2005 Corvette. While the Rx8 is a great car. I dont regret making the switch. I am lucky enough to have been able to own 2 world class sports cars........... but 2 cars that are as different as night and day. Anyone who owns either car should be very happy indeed!!!!!!!!!! I will always give the corvette wave to all of you rotor heads! Good luck with your rides!!!!!!!!!! Gary (04 yellow RX8 / 05 yellow Corvette)

youngpit 02-03-2005 12:25 PM
