04 GT vs fence and porch

porch wins. Here are the results. Estimated damage to rx8, 9,100, however that bumps up a bit more after looking it over myself. No airbags, no one hurt, but riding my motorcycle around in the winter is a bit cold.

I'm baffled as to how you ran your 8 into a porch, and how that damage ensued. Story?

Aren't porches typically somewhat far from the road?

but yeah honestly how the hell did you get into a accident with a porch?? Did it taunt you, cut you off in traffic? Or was it sleeping with your ex?

Clavius guessed right, although add rain and a possible flat tire to the mix and you get a weird feeling followed by braking, weird car reaction, resulting in course deviation and then emergency braking. The lucky part was that 6 inches and the right was a foundation, and 6 inches to the left was a jacked truck.

Yes I'm a numb nut for not changing my tires, I wanted to wait till full blown winter to put on my snow tires and save the cost of buying summers for the spring. Where I am winter doesn't really start until now, all this happened over a month ago. Lesson learned.

So did you get it fixed or are you going to part it out?

insurance says it's fixable, I'm going to take it to someone else and hopefully have it totaled. Either that or let them pay the 12+k it's gonna take and sell the piece when it comes out of the shop like a tit job, looking good but the actual feel leaves you thinking something is not quite right.

In all seriousness.....no airbag deployment?
Was it just the angle of attack due to the porch decided to use thrust vectoring in order to defeat the airbag defense?

it's not fixed, some issues delayed the insurance. Anyone know of a really good repair shop on the Cape?

no airbag deployment, looks like it missed the sensor by about an inch, unless the sensor isn't where I thought it was, and/or works differently. Also speed was under 30 at the time of the incident. The porch was 7 feet from the road.

a very surreal moment, I mean I've had that thing sideways doing 40 around a nice bend and brought it back. The feel of these cars is very predictable. When it happened the car was going straight, and the road bent slightly to the right, and the porch was on the right, I don't know how it's momentum was able to shift so violently to the right with bald tires in the rain.

wow, that hurts!

I'm in the same situation, you probably seen my recent thread with the stormy blue rx8 that got rear ended. Doesn't look as bad but still hit me hard. I mean it doesn't look like it hit your frame its all body work and some electrical and motor work but it is fixable. The damage is so intense what i would do is take the 10k+ insurance money and part out the rx8 and make another 8 grand or so! I mean its worth it if you really think about it.

Which ever route you go, good luck!
