sneak peak at Mazda RX-9? (fastlanedaily)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ehl8FjcR3Y 2012 expected release date
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yBfhzveS1oU (some concept models in video)
dropping the 2 doors, going hydrogen/gas combo (with a 20% decrease in power in hydro-mode), stepping up from 1.3L to 1.8L

all rumors im sure... saw this so figured I would pass it along.

1.8 L huh? Sounds good but I could really could care less about the hydrogen, it would be cool if it worked w/o the 20% redux in power, but if that's the case gimme the fuel sucking dino juice loving rotary.

Huh? The second link is from January. And we already know that they're planning on the 1.6l and not a 1.8l. The newer article is just a rehash on items discussed over the last few weeks regarding dual use for the next RX.

I do like that rendering tho even if it's as likely to look like the next RX as a random matchbox car from 1980.

the new article from aug 6th is the one that dicusses 1.8L. being it was posted less than 2 weeks ago you figure if new information decided 1.6L they would have reported that as being the recent information, which wasnt the case. I thought too that they had decided on a 1.6L, but this conflicting information makes me wonder.

Rendering doesn't look too bad but is perhaps out of date as I don't see any of the Taki/Furai/Hakaze/Nagare design influence that I'm almost sure we would start seeing with the next RX- car. I does however look like a photochopped Kabura.

2:40 in the second (Jan 08) link gives you the '1.3 to 1.8L' thing. The first link talks about the 8 from 1:15 to ~2:00. No mention of engine output just dual fuel.

The Taiki concept had a 1.6L rotary in it and they said at the auto show that that engine will be making it's way into the new Rx? I know they're still working on the drivetrain, but i hope they don't lose sight of what this car is meant to be.

Anyone have any idea when some sort of announcement will be made as to what the 16x will go into and a clear date? I have an '04 and I'm getting antsy. Next year for sure I want to get into something new. It might be a good thing but there is pretty much absolutely nothing out there that interests me right now (that I can afford)

It would be interesting to know what the weight target for the RX-8 replacement or refresh model. I hope it will be under 2,500-2,700 lb, with a 1.6L 250-270 hp rotary for a 10lb to hp ratio or better.

I think it's looks very nice. Light-weight 2-seater coupe with 16x, forget the hydrogen crap, classic good looks, what's not to like?

I kind of like the styling a little bit. I'm not too fond of the front end though, but it might grow on me. i just wish we had something solid because right now it seems that every magazine or internet site has a different style car and a different powertrain offered.
