Sad News: RX8 Crash in Far East

Interesting. Here may be another reason why they survived and a clear Mazda RX-8 selling point.
The RX-8 did extremely well in "roll-over" accident tests. The Mazda RX-8 is safer than many people know.

From what I know being on a fire company in my town and owning an RX8, every accident is different. Crash tests are simulated conditions, not real life conditions, Many factors play a key role, the weight of passengers, the handing, the gross weight of vehicle, the speed, the quality of the tires, the weather conditions. The most important thing is, that an accident like that, they all are fine.

Ugh, I hate it when Asians try to use slang/colloquial English.... it might freak us out to see this happen to an 8, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't a "freak" accident.

holy crap! just looked at the pictures.
the 2nd picture shows how well strong the core cabin is in the 8. you can see in the door, and the interior looks almost untouched, as far as intrusion goes. maintained shape/structure very well where it matters.

WOW
It's Amazing that no one was killed in an accident like that.
That car was completely destroyed.
Guess they have to send a huge thank you to Mazda R & D Safety.

Amen to that. That story still freaks me out.
As to this accident.. I know the pics look bad but remember the car is designed to deform in an accident, so forget all the front end damage.. Rollovers always look bad, but as long as the passenger compartment retains enough room for your body you will likely be fine as the actual impacts aren't very hard.
I would really like to see a picture of the driver's side showing the deformation of the roof (looks like the car landed on the drivers side edge of the roof after flipping), and how much space was left in the footwell. And they were damn lucky they didn't flip into that tree, cos it would have cut the car in half....
Airbags come in all sorts of colors. On the WRX they are white, pink, and green; don't ask how I know.
In an RX8, the type of accident I'd be most concerned about is side impact. Consider the door caving in and your hips being crushed between it and the trans tunnel... Ouch I guess that's what all the reinforcement of the doors is for...

It's a well built car and they were lucky. A good combination.
What surprises me the most is that someone actually used their 8 to haul around 3 adult passengers!

I wonder if they use curbs on all their roads over there? That allows no room for error and would take just a split second of distraction to hit the curb and loose control like that.

A split second of distraction would maybe have you run onto the curb and break a wheel and some suspension parts, not flip over the guard rail..
First of all, what business do you have getting distracted at the wheel
