Just one question.. how the heck did rx8 cross the quater mile in 14.49 seconds?

Wow, great find. I had to dig up this old issue of Motortrend to reread this article. They writers hid the nail on the head with their comments on the RX-8.

 

That's nothing my 8 crossed it in 3.4 seconds. After installing a flux capacitor, I boosted off the line and went back to March 2004.

It's not just MotorTrend, Car&Driver and Road&Track have also clocked the 8 in the ~14.5-14.6 sec range in separate tests and on more than one occasion. The trick is just launching the car right, which most mortal drivers don't seem to be able to do.
