RX8 on cover of TURBO the mag
just got my most recent edition of Turbo magazine and an rx8 by panspeed (? ) is on the cover. it ran a lap at tsukuba at 1 minute flat
NATURALLY ASPIRATED yeah i was shocked too, but they used a weird hybrid of parts to complete the engine to obtain nearly 300 hp. before u flame me for BS, they used rx7 rotor housings and blocked off the side intake ports to make a periferal (sp) intake port rx8 engine. i dont kno whcih exhaust ports they blocked, since they dont say if they did or not and the pics dont help, but considering the fact they now had side and periferal exhaust ports, im sure they prolly blocked the side ports. and the intakes have two throttle bodies, i would assume them to be one per rotor. and the intake system is a HUGE pipe runnin from behind a hole in the hood to the throttle bodies they retained the rx8 rotors and end plates and used ceramic apex seals. they claim 298 ps at 10k (im fuzzy on the rpm part) ps is diff from hp i kno, but the conversion isnt much too diff. it has the usual track car setup, coilovers, tires, wheels, brakes, aero parts, empty interior with full cage, blah blah blah adnauseam whatev, it isnt a complete rx8 engine but it gains some respect, i mean it was on the cover even! im happy |

its too early in the edition, all mags sites r like that.....wait a couple week and they will post it, look at sportcompact cars website, their homepage is ages old!
and ps, this wonder hybrid engine reminded me of the guy who recently was claimin to try to get 300 crank hp out of a renesis and many ppl said BS..... well its doable.....its basically all oem parts sans the apex seals......... next mod for me i guess would be to find ITBs!!!!!!!!! jk |
I just went to the grocery store and got the TURBO mag. It has a widebody RX7 turbo on the cover??? Maybe the grocery store was an issue behind; it's for May 2007.
Perhaps you got a different issue than i did....... |

No RX8 in the entire issue. Only rotary is the widebody turbocharged 500+ horsepower 3rd gen RX7 on the front. Good read about it tho. They also have a 500+ awhp Evo, a turbo NSX, and some info of the Edlebrock turbo kit for the Civic.
I'm not doubting you, because it would make no sense for you to make something up that you know thousands of people could find out, so I'm not doubting you. Perhaps you have the magazine name or issue mixed up??? |

the cover says "YELLOW FEVER"
that widebody rx7 is old, doesnt that say some little red box about "1.3l and 400 hp" or some crap? thats the old issue bro |

yeah i got that issue a couple days ago in the mail and it cought my eye. I read the whole article and was disappointed to see that it is RX7 based, NOT the renesis. Still a Sweat car, but im into keeping the renesis and hoping to see its TRUE Virtue come out of it. I know there is potential in this motor. As is with some upgrades to it i was able to seriously put 350Z and nissan 300 ZX to shame. Our car has a whole lot of power, I am just giving it time to see what other can come up with that will blow me away. If nothing comes up then i might be swaping the renesis motor into My 85' FB and the Sequential Twin turbo 3-rotor engine into the RX8. But that is my last resort, lol. Until then i am perfectly happy with the Renesis being in the RX8.

the thing is that the renesisi is define by the potition of its ports, to get power out of a rotary engine you have to mod the ports, so it is a renesis engine with its side ports closed and pports. In the past when you made a 13b-REW into a pport configuration it was still a 13b-REW
so it is a renesis with peripheral ports :D: |

The interesting thing to me was the dual throttle bodies for each rotor. That is an interesting way to get more air and possible more HP. I wonder what the cost of such a mod would be?
