Rx-8 Production Line Halted!!!

Apparently a fire at the factory has seized the production of the RX-8. Damages (physical and financial) yet to come.

http://rotarynews.com/node/view/483

It doesn't specify which vehicle was in production when the fire broke out.

So I guess every 8 sitting in dealer stock is now a 'Limited Edition" until production resumes.

I'm going to ebay my Rx-8 with a starting bid of $45,000 since it's a rare collectors item now.

It started in the paint drying booth. It was the RX-8 production building that was damaged. The other building that was closed but not damaged was where the Demio is built.

just imagine if this would have happened a couple years ago when those of us that preordered our cars and we were trying to follow the daily updates. imagine if we would have read about a fire in the factory full of 8's I am so happy i have my car now and I dont have to worry about anything happening, I do remmeber there was a train wreck when they were first released that i believe did damage some new ones too.

Production halted "indefinitely".

http://www.reuters.com/newsArticle.j...toryID=7107431

"TOKYO, Dec 16 (Reuters) - A fire has halted production at two of Mazda Motor Corp.'s (7261.T: Quote, Profile, Research) plants in Hiroshima, western Japan, the company said on Thursday, adding that it was unclear how long the factories would be out of action.
...
The production line has been halted and at the moment we don't know when it will be running again," said spokesman Yuji Kato. There were no injuries in the fire.

Shares of Mazda, one-third owned by Ford Motor Co. (F.N: Quote, Profile, Research) , fell three percent in early trading to 315 yen.

Mazda has four plants in Japan. The affected factories produce the Demio compact, the MPV family van, the RX8 sports car, the Roadstar sports car and the Verisa hatchback."

I hope this doesn't affect getting parts. This could postpone getting my car back from the body shop even longer. Well, guess I don't have to worry about winter driving!

Noooooooo!!!!! What will happen now...Noooooo, will they increase the price of the RX8? Will dealers now say, hey...we will not get RX8's so we don't have to make any good deals anymore, cause RX8's will now be rare...no rush to sell them.

NO!!! Will this change my possiblity of getting a RX8? Noooooooo...LOL, OK I'll stop!

I hope this wont mess up anything. Was that the ONLY factory building RX8's? Please tell me it was not...

No, no one was hurt...

Is this the only factory building RX8's? If this stops production completely we are going to see some nasty effects on the market...and at the dealerships!!!

If there's a shortage, I wonder if I'll be able to sell my 8 for a bunch more. :D

Actually, this may be a good time to sell my wrecked 8 when it's finished and buy a new one when they come out??? That supply and demand thing may just be the ticket.

assuming it's burned to the ground, how long does it take to rebuild a factory that makes 230,000 cars a year?

also, given that there is a 2-5 month delay to get the cars over here, I would imagine the shortage wouldn't be apparent for a while.
