The Michigan "WANKEL"
Why were the RX-8 GT class cars not competitive this year? In the last two years, the RX-8s made a good showing at Daytona. What changed? The GT race this year was boring, with the exception of the fact that there were so many manufacturers, which is good. I love those 458 Italias. But the results were pretty much a given from the start: Porsche, Porsche, Porsche.

They weren't competitive last year either. Worse last year actually. The 2011 24hr started off with the fastest RX-8 starting in 16th. After doing so well in 2010, the RX-8s were penalized with weight and a rev limiter reduction, while various other cars had weight reductions.
Short story? The rules were adjusted in a way that prevents them from being competitive.
