Road and Track best car
the rx-8 has been a finalist for Readers Choice Award Best Car of 2004. I saw it on Road and Track television so i went out and got the magazine. Go to the website and check it out. I thought you could vote but apparently you cant.

I am a R&T subscriber and saw that you could vote on the web site, so I did--for the RX-8 of course. Voting closed a month or two ago so that they could put together the story for the March issue. Haven't seen it yet.

Voting's over... but they had Jay Leno doing an "everyman's" review at the end of each car.
He had nothing but positive things to say about the 8... and not all cars could boast that.

Actually, Sandi and I just finished watching the show as a rerun, while we were waiting for the Motorweek show featuring the RX8 vs Z comparo. The RX8 was second in the readers' voting.
All the testers had nothing but good things to say about the RX8. As a "regular guy" driver, I put a lot of weight to Leno's commentary and the tone of his delivery. As a sports car, he preferred the RX8 to all but the GT3, and even then, he suggested the RX8 was impossible to pass up for the price, smoothness, and cool factor...
I think it would be interesting to see the demographics of the voting, as well as the total number of votes cast...
I drove the STi when shopping around. Very powerful, but also quite conventional, and, (sorry, Ike) butt ugly. For me, it would not be a car I could see myself being happy with after the first year.
The show confirmed all the thiings I love about the RX8. I encourage everyone to watch it, if possible. The testers echo all the enthusiasm that's been running on RX8Club.

whats the price for the Sti? But the rx-8 still should of won. I dont know why some idiots found that car unique. Our cars have all the right curves in all the right places. plus its a 1.3 L rotary engine pushing 238 hp. Thats good, no thats not good its extremely good. And When im drivin around, i forget that i'm even behind the wheel cause its so smooth. But some people might have thought differently. I just wished they have thought about this more.

well the STI won because they are ALOT more Subaru enthusiasts around that have the time to sit down and just vote. Honestly out of all those cars in the list the STI does not deserve to win. Since it was an online survey i think the results are crap i could make a program to sit there and spoff my ip as well as constantly vote so what does it mean?

I don't visit many car forums except this one, but I have noticed the tendency to wave the flag and point out any nugget when it's positive and quickly turn around and defend when something doesn't work out. Doesn't happen often because 95% of the reviews are always positive but it is evident. I assume this is just human tendency and the mindset is similar on other automobile boards.

No, the subaru won because it is a popularity contest. Like shocka said. Readers choice, not reviewers choice. I don't care which one won... it is an empty award. (like prom queen)
I would be happy owning any of those cars, they're all awesome. Fortunately I do own one of them.

April issue of Popular Mechanics has a short article on the STI. They ordered one for their long term test fleet. Seems like it was much more reliable then the Sienna Van they tested. I like the blue with the gold wheels but I'm too old to be driving around with that wing on the back. The STI seems like a good solution for the cold weather flooding/winter traction whiners. Maybe Mazda could add it to their next Tech Bulletin: "For persistent customers complaining about flooding and poor traction, recommend purchase of optional part no. WRX STI"
