so i talked to the sales manager at Rosenthal Mazda at Arlington va. and he was like he has been in touch with mazda speed, and that they have been been working on a mazda speed version.

prediction: new slight different look, with lighter weight and a bump of 50 hp turbo.

Endgame 10-12-2007 09:42 PM

God I hope not.... I will be faced with trading in my auto 8 and getting the MS version or the new rotary. A turbo renesis rotary........Homer Simpson drooooolllllll....

Don't know. I think I still like the n/a 16x possibility...

Not sure if the "new refreshed" RX-8 will be seen at the Tokyo Motor-show as ALL the press releases from Mazda so far give no hint of a new model.

Why?, In my opinion I still think the "new" 8 is in the final design pipeline, I do not think even distributors (Like Mazda Australia) have seen any pictures or know any firm detailed changes/info.

Keeping in mind that the Anniversary RX-8 is scheduled for production next month, and then there is a 4 month production halt at Hiroshima plant.

This is where/when the new RX-8 will be born and then we may see some pics.

Remember the changes to the Mazda 6 and Mazda 3 (the present refreshed models) there were no spy pics and it was the factory who released pics via their usual media release.

I believe the same will apply to the RX-8.

And somehow now I do not think we will see a major change to the cars outside features, the Mazda 6 had some front lower air vent grille things added, but basically the car looked the same. The Mazda 3 had a redesigned front air intake grille and both cars had very minor alteration to the tail light lenses, but size and structure remained unchanged.

Inside there were very minor changes, trim color.
Outside New paint colors.

Mechanically there were some changes to suspension and noise suppression materials.

So will the RX-8 have only a couple of alterations, or many more, until the new year I do not think anyone will be able to confirm anything.

Have to agree with ASH on this one. Mazda have already stated their line up for the show & an updated RX-8 is not included.

Updated M5 + M6 are listed for display as is the M5 hybrid/rotary.

Unless Mazda plan on keeping it (a highly unlikely) secret even to the Tokyo motor show organisers, it may not be appearing......

I think the RX-8 facelift will be a fairly quiet change. I don't think we'll see much fanfare made about it. They've just got so many other things to show right now. As with the RX-7 facelifts over the years, it's really just another excuse to get the car back in commercials so they can sell a few more for the last 2 years of the car's life until it gets replaced. The rotary facelift has traditionally been over the last 2 years of the cars life so it probably won't be very different this time. We won't see these all over the place and in the future these will be the harder ones to find.

Re: No restyle

Nope, no restyled/revised RX-8, the big show for Mazda was their Taiki concept powered byt he 16X rotary:

Also Mazda unveiled their Mazda6 wagon.

BigOLundh 10-24-2007 02:56 PM

i would just like to point out that this thread - and the other 9 million before it about the New RX8/MS RX8 turned out to be false.

Point is - quitting jumping into bed and giving out free handj*bs until its finally officially revealed. Mazda doesnt ride the hype train like many other manufacturers do. Your going to see the car in an official setting before you see a gazillion "spy shots".

Exactly, which is true with almost every automotive model "refresh".

In response to what someone said about them not making a big deal about the new Rx8. Can anyone remember the last time they made any big deal about anything Rx8 since it's release? I don't think i've seen a car commercial about it in the last 2 years!!? Anytime a Mazda commercial comes on i look just for my own amusement anymore and they show a big line of their cars floating around in the background and all the Mazda models are there except the 8. Maybe these are just Ohio or just the channels i watch, but it makes me feel like if they did make a new face lift that the only way we'd know about it is by going to a dealership and seeing if they have one in.

wasnt there sopposed to be a facelifted rx-8...at the toyoko auto show has started so where are the pictures?

lesper4 10-29-2007 01:42 PM

altspace 10-29-2007 02:44 PM

I told you BS. They are not going to change a car that has been slated and approved for the 2009 release of the 2010 model year replacement.

lone_wolf025 11-06-2007 08:35 PM

Yea that wouldn't make sense to restyle it for 2 yrs, only to drop it for the next model. Not cost effective

I just got back from Japan, where I visited the Tokyo Motor Show.

There was no RX-8 face lift at the show.

But if anyone is interested in the new GT-R, Mazda Taiki concept, STi and Evo X, you can read about my visit here: https://www.rx8club.com/general-automotive-49/my-visit-tokyo-motor-show-yes-another-gt-r-thread-130231/

Thanks Hachi! Nothing like boots on the ground...

Well, Firstly it was only "Motoring Blogs" that suggested there would be a face lift RX-8 at the TMS.

Gomez, an Australian forum member has seen the bulletin issued to Mazda Dealers a month ago that talks of a 'new RX-8' for mid 2008.

I personally have had the following confirmed by the General Manager of Mazda Australia, Doug Dickson, who said that November and December we will see production of the Anniversary RX-8 then NO More production until April 2008.

It is my belief and others that this is when we will see some changes to the 8, albeit very minor as the GM pointed out to me in his email that "he was not in a position to detail specifics about the new RX-8 before this information is released to their dealer network", he suggested I visit a dealer in the new year.
He also confirmed this April production will be available for sale here in May 2008.

So,we will know more about what changes have occurred in the "new 8". Personally I think the changes will be very minor like the upgrades to the Mazda 3 and 6, i.e. you have to look really hard to pick the difference.

And as we recall no spy pics were seen of the 3 and 6 until the factory released them through their media site.

And as we know the 8 is due for a generation change in 2010/2011.

Spin9k 11-07-2007 05:52 AM

Well I've been told face to face by 'someone' that (said he's seen the car - he didn't indicate whether he'd seen it in the metal or in a picture) there's a new 'smiley face' on the upcoming 8, but they had no knowledge of any new engine - and I asked. So for now, I'd say as others have, it's a cosmetic facelift.

revision note: is that clearer ash8?

So your 'someone' has seen the car, not in the metal or pics? so what did he have a dream?

And yeah, most Mazda face lifts are cosmetic.
