New RX8

My Road and Track says 2014 is when we will see the new SKY R

That is R for rotary.

A new 8 is in the works!

fuztupnz 03-17-2011 06:50 PM

Orly?

woot. Thanks stealth.

jharpst 03-17-2011 07:18 PM

i thought i heard they were calling it the rx-9

Detrich 03-17-2011 07:19 PM

i think this is a repost, but good nonetheless. the article is, however, filled with type-o's in the print edition and honestly, speculative at best... lol

in the print edidtion they called the renesis, the "genesis" engine.

dumb f's

rotarykillz 03-17-2011 09:29 PM

sexy....I hope we get a convertible out of this generation!!!

found this about it

monchie 03-18-2011 12:24 AM

It looks expensive.

FoxeyL8y 03-18-2011 01:22 AM

:/ i dont like it much to be honest

The_Beast 03-18-2011 06:46 AM

I really like it, but I think it looks more luxury/sporty than an actual sports car. It would be great if they made this AND a new rotary sports car, something about the same size as the FD.

I can dream, right?

paimon.soror 03-18-2011 07:02 AM

Unfortunately I think we have all fallen into the "i will believe it when i see it" when it comes to mazda's anticipated rotaries

thats not anywhere even close to being the interior of a 2014 mazda.

9krpmrx8 03-18-2011 11:14 AM

Just remember guys how different the RX8 concept looked from the final released version.

RufusVonStorm 03-18-2011 04:33 PM

I bought one yesterday, it's pretty nice, going to change my sig as soon as I finish driving

77mjd 03-18-2011 10:33 PM

That thing looks awfully big. If they are going to be south of 300hp to drastically improve the MPG, I'm guessing they may be able to get in the 250-275 range and with that , the car will definitely need to be under 3k lbs if they want to compete with similar cars. But then again, since when does Mazda want to compete with their competition anyway?

Well the '8 was definitely behind in fuel economy and straight line acceleration when new, but other models didn't have so much of a disparity. The Mx-5 has never really had a steady competitor (maybe the Solstice briefly). The Mazdaspeed 3 has certainly been on a similar level as the GTI and other such hatches. The Rx-7's were very close or even faster than the direct competition in a straight line.

As for it looking big... it's a picture on the internet, that doesn't really tell you much

maat 03-18-2011 11:15 PM

Sleek!

Hahahe!

Mazda:
  • Keep the power up.
  • Keep the weight down.
  • Keep the fuel efficiency up.
  • Keep the luxury at the level of the current RX8, or just slightly more.
  • Most importantly DO NOT lose the amazing handling which the current RX8 already comes with, pretty please.
What do you mean, I can't have my wish list?! :o: :p:

olddragger 03-20-2011 09:30 AM

fail.
it will not be a 4 seat car
OD

Roidz 03-20-2011 10:56 PM

I like it, but things will change a lot between now and when it actually comes out.

jakejacobson 03-21-2011 02:00 AM

Im really liking it. Might just have to pick one up in 2015 to replace the 05 8 ;) give it a year to fix all the design flaws of course LOL

josh95mx 03-21-2011 04:43 PM

I think it looks to much like a Hundi Genesis. I heard that they were going to be introducing a 2dr coup version of the RX8 in 2014 as the RX9 with the possibility of a 3 rotor renesis or larger disp. 2 rotor (which i heard Mazda was working on with some new technology that was recently invented by an aviation company with increased power and fuel economy). Just what i heard couple months back from some Mazda guys in Japan. I wouldn’t give my 8 up for that rendering, I would buy a 3rd gen RX7 way before I bought something like that.

Edit: I read the artical my bad.

GeorgeH 03-21-2011 10:58 PM

Gorgeous. I just got my latest Zoom-Zoom mag in the mail, and was drooling over the Shinari pics. You can really see the Shinari influence in the above rendering.

Of course, it’s speculative, but I hope they make it, 2-door or 4-door.

azzuro 03-21-2011 11:12 PM

looks interesting. It'll be more interesting to see how close it actually comes to what Stealth posted.

I understand that when the 8 first came out it went toe to toe with a lot of "competition", but my frustration is since then, all other cars have improved drastically in the HP and mpg dept...the 8 has not. The z is the perfect example of a car that has gotten small, but steady improvements over the years and now, I'm sorry to say it trounces the 8 in most comparisons, including the handling dept. I was hoping for an evolution like that with the 8, but I do understand they are severely handicapped with the rotary so hopefully the next one makes this long, agonizing wait worthwhile. All I would ask for personally is more torque and much better mpg. Even 250hp and a couple hundred lbs lighter I think they'd have a hit.

Atilla 03-22-2011 07:34 PM

Anybody know if the oil filter will be in an easier place to change without me getting a freakin' oil filter relocation kit?

...if so...i'm down for one

Mazda usually does a 8+ year run w/ a body style during those times you will get a few changes, which are generally a small face lift and a small bump in HP, typically around 10hp. Its nothing new, they have been doing it since the 70's. Look for them to do it again.

Ross_Dawg 03-29-2011 10:21 PM

I already want to de-badge the front.

rx7guy27 03-29-2011 11:44 PM

That picture sure looks like the Mazda Shinari. But the interior looks different then what was speculated for the Shinari in other pictures. Remember there was 7-8 years between the last year of FD in the states to when the 8 arrived so even if there is a new rotary, how long before we see it here?

The world is not america-centric. The rx7 was in production 'till around 2002, and in 2003 the first rx8s were sold :)
If a new rotary enters production there will be a 1year gap max imho.

less IMHO, in Japan will end production and sale of rx-8 and will be launched the new one.

same thing for rx-7 and 8

HiFlite999 03-30-2011 09:23 AM

Perfect! My engine warranty will expire in 2014 ...

scotttnz 03-31-2011 01:06 AM

I hope the production version looks similar to the concept. I like it a lot, and was drooling over it in the New Zealand Zoom Zoom mag I was sent last week.

Kind of reminds me of an Aston Marton DB9 from the side.

Spin9k 03-31-2011 10:07 AM

That front looks rather bulbous, much like current nissan sedans. It looks fussy, not sleek or aggressive...but it's just a pic (hopefully).

I can get my arm in there and twist it off by hand every time. I put a sheet of sandpaper in my hand and no problem. It may not be perfectly placed but I've seen much worse.

Yeah was just thinking the same on everything.

sh0gunshin 05-14-2011 08:47 PM

^as olddragger said. the next gen rx will not be a 4 seater. i don't have my source, but i have read it from an official rep

supergoat 05-15-2011 12:12 AM

If I knew it would look just like that, I'd put my deposit down today.

Joe-the_tattoo_artist 05-15-2011 09:37 PM

I think that is one slick looking ride.

after looking at that photo for a couple of mins....now i understand why they designed the Series II front clips the way they did.

If the new one ends up being close to the one shown, wow, that is one aggressive looking front:SHOCKED:

I mean, I like it but it's certainly radical:cwm27:

Easy_E1 05-16-2011 10:47 AM

I heard last Saturday from one of my sources, :suspect: that the design is complete for the new RX model. (they were shown pics from Mazda) And it will have the DI 16X.
I did see some pics of a Hydrogen powered Mazda2.

9krpmrx8 05-16-2011 10:56 AM

It's funny reading this thread after hearing the Mazda rep speak about the next RX at the Texas8. I guess we will all have to wait and see what is bullshit and what is real.
