Another photochop, which may not be consistent with my last post in some details. I'm not pleased with my work either, but if you like it then THANKS! Remember that this is only speculation...

i have heard from someone who has seen it that your first chop up there is nearly dead on

restiller 12-21-2007 02:50 AM

^^sweet! now if that kind of stuff can land me a design job in the auto industry, i'd be set. :)

rx8wannahave 12-21-2007 08:50 AM

Wow, Mazda sure puts the SLIGHT in "slight revision" huh....lol.

I love the 8, but it sure is getting long in the tooth as they say while I'd love to see a DI Aluminum 1.5L Rotary making 270HP or so....hmmm, did I come close RG/Zoom?

LOL

Man I hope not. I like big grills (Audi, Exo X) but I'm not feeling that one.

altspace 12-21-2007 11:15 AM

Mmm, I think the opening is just the right size for the current model.

No DI and no 270hp. Sorry.

you all remember this thread right?

CJ's in that thread were pretty good actually.

i think i pegged it on the direction if I do say so myself:)

restiller 12-21-2007 11:59 AM

Whatever the outcome, i'm probably gonna grow to like it (just like how I felt about the new Accord coupe and last Prelude). Or I'm going to try to hate it because I love the current design.

OR I'm going to hate it because it will turn out better than the current design and I'll be upside-down when I trade my car in for the new one.

zoom44 12-21-2007 12:07 PM

just by the new nose and hang it on your current car:)

rx8wannahave 12-21-2007 12:12 PM

No DI and no 270hp. Sorry.
Wow, "slight" has a new definition...lol.

In January we shall see the details I guess, the marble in my head is going around and around but why waste time on speculation...lol.

zoom44 12-21-2007 01:18 PM

di and 280 or more is comign later:)

zoom44 12-21-2007 02:46 PM

on a side note- this quote jsut showed up again.

you may have seen it before. but my question is "why is the MAzda6 program manager, Ryuichi Umeshita , talking about an RX-7?"

Rotary Xperiment 12-21-2007 07:37 PM

Wow, my head is spinning as well. Thanks a lot for the "hints", zoom and rg. Few questions still linger....

1) Is there going to be any increase in hp for the base model? Or the Type RS?

2) The "new face" we're seeing---is that the regular Rx-8 or is it the front bumper of the Type RS?

3) Why are there no leaked pics of the real thing yet ???? :)

More "hints" would be much appreciated, guys..

they have found a few more ponies to make a measurable and marketable change.
the type R will have to wait until closer to NAIAS or later

because of the restricted access to the real thing if pics leaked Mazda would know the source and the flow of info would come to an abrupt halt.

DrKillJoY 12-21-2007 10:28 PM

From what I know just about every detail that could be given (legally) out is out there wouldn't you say Charlie?

zoom44 12-21-2007 10:55 PM

is the third oil injection port out there? or the whole new wiring loom that makes the new control and oiling scheme incompatible with the old cars? or the new from the header back exhaust?

Rotary Xperiment 12-22-2007 12:20 AM

Thanks a lot, zoom! Believe it or not, I am actually sweating on the ponies not being increased by too much (which is the complete opposite of everyone here).

Not that I dont want more power, but I live in Bangkok, where tax on cars is huge. As it is, the 8 is going to cost me around 80,000 USD. There's another tax which is based on hp---ie any car above 220hp gets hit by this "extra" tax. Because my car will be imported directly from Japan (JDM spec), they go stricly by the Japanese numbers. As it is the 6 speed auto 8 is listed at 215 ps, if the ponies go up by more than 5, it'll put the price of the car up to over 100,000 USD---which means, I can no longer afford it land end up buying the "old" version---arrrgggghhhh.

Either way, sorry to digress, but you guys should consider yourself lucky living in a country where you can buy great cars for under 30,000 USD.

Thats the sad part.

swiftboy 12-22-2007 05:22 AM

The present FE32 RX8 6MT costs S$123,000 here in s'pore.

I wonder how much the new one costs.

My sales exec has NO news of the new car yet!!!

Arghhhh!

Rotary Xperiment 12-23-2007 08:53 PM

I hear you swiftboy. Looks like we're both in the same boat. I'll let you know if I get any new info...

ASH8 12-23-2007 09:24 PM

WELL,
I have just returned from talking to a Mazda Parts Manager that I trained and here is some news, the 3 RX-8's that are being tested in our outback are of the new model..
One has the RENESIS 13B "Covered Face lift", its appears US, Europe and Australia are testing them.
The other 2 have the 1.6 RENESIS one with DI and the other with NA!!!
They are all Japanese (factory) engineers with Mazda Australia techs accompanying them.
The MA "gossip" is that they have until the end of January 08 to rectify the heating issues (we are in our summer 40 degrees c plus temps), apparently the 16 (Bs'?) have a larger capacity water pump and the car has larger radiators/fans.
If this can be solved there is a strong possibility that a NA 1.6 litre RENESIS will be "offered" in the new face lift which is scheduled for line production in early April.
The 1.6 DI's are for the "New' RX in 2013.
If not the existing 13B with "tweaked electronics for more performance"
and the suspension upgrades we know about will be the likely outcome.
But the larger engine is not dead in the new 2009 RX-8.
Interesting news..

Brettus 12-23-2007 09:31 PM

and people laughed when I suggested the 16 would come in next year ...
Great news indeed .

Renesis_8 12-23-2007 09:32 PM

Is the heating issue the result of having to cut the coolant passages narrowier to enlarge the displacement?
________
HURT FROM WELLBUTRIN

ASH8 12-23-2007 09:58 PM

^^ yes, that is the exact reason Renesis 8...

Also..
I forgot to add this...as I was too excited!!!, sorry!!!...

Mick who has been a Mazda PM for nearly 20 years and has many contacts (obviously with the guys at Mazda Australia) believes that the new "type R" or even ...dare I say it...a 'Mazdaspeed 8 or MPS' version would have the 1.6 NA engine, with the other models the existing tweaked 13B, Why, you would have the extra ponies many want in the special version, but at a cost of higher fuel use.

IMO this is very plausible.

Renesis_8 12-23-2007 10:04 PM

I hope the 16X engine reliable, or else don't release it.

My thoughts exactly. Reliabilty has to be primary.

ASH8 12-24-2007 01:14 AM

We have to keep in mind that the Mazda Techs here could just be testing the 16X in an RX-8 mule for future RX models.

altspace 12-24-2007 07:13 AM

Is it too late to combine these two threads?

I agree with your comment. I do not think we will see the 16x until the next RX car.

Sorry, but I wish Mazda would leave the 'tweaked' 13b in the RX8 and eventually discontinue it, and drop a true RX7 replacement wtih the 16x engine (330 HP at 2900 pounds or less) at a cost of 37-42k.

Let the the lower end sports car (Kabura??) do the low end work while the new RX coupe does the mid tier fighting. Mazda should keep in mind that BMW will drop a 135tii costing in the mid 40's within the next couple years and opt to fight that car, along with the Z, Cayman, Supra (if that ever comes)...
