Only thing is I have no idea how long my car had been exhibiting the power loss problem, since I never drove my car WIDE OPEN all the time. So there is no telling how much damage my engine as encountered.
Mazda replaced my Ignition coils as well. It solved the high RPM cut-out. It still is making a bit of a pinging though when warm.

does anyone have recomendations for octane boost? I am already running 91 octane fuel

I'm supposed to be able to pick mine up today. As far as I know nothing is wrong since they haven't informed me of it. I called yesterday afternoon to ask if it was ready and they hadn't finished up everything with the testing. They said they'd have the testing all done by the end of the day and would call if something was wrong, and no call. This morning they are washing it and filling up my tank.

Seeing how I heard about this recall with only around 500 miles on the odo mine passed fine. Also glad I have a 30 mile commute each way. I regular redline 1st and chirp tires into second on the way to redline. I will say these stock tires are twitchy in the rain today so a more leisurely readline approach was in order.

I put goodyear eagle f1 245/40-18 tires on my car and it helped the rain performance greatly!

I also do redline a few times each commute.

Ride a Motorcycle. You will soon come to loathe Camrys.

The car itself other than being totally void of any character might not be such a bad vehicle itself, but the people that drive them are truely clueless and seem to be totally oblivious to what is going on around them. More Camry drivers try to kill me day in and day out than anything else.

I got my car back and I am very upset. They put almost 120km (75 miles) on the odometer for their recall work and didn't fill up the tank. All I needed was a couple spark plugs that they didn't have in stock and couldn't overnight them which was what made my car stay 3 days at the dealer instead of a few hours.

Take it back, They actually had to fill mine up twice because the first time they forgot and then after the second time i took it back they ended of replacing teh tank so that had to fill it up again. And the detail............well I would call it more of a dirty sponge bath.

Like I mentioned previously they are replacing my ignition coils, but 2 problems...

Engine was making a "hissing" noise and the CAT failed its test.

Can't see how replacing ignition coils fixes either of those problems.

Just got home. Picked Bella up today. Passed everything with no problems. Also had them check my tires all out to make sure they were all balanced and my sensor was still working. All fine. Also replaced my broken visor. I didn't need the new plugs since they put the new ones in at the beginning of July (weren't available at the time I took delivery of my car). They just needed to reprogram the PCM. They filled up the tank. They didn't wash it for me but told me when I bring it in next time I got a free detailing. Apparently there was confusion because they finished up all the testing very late yesterday and got the tank filled up. The only thing left was to wash it, which was supposed to have been done this morning. They called to say it was ready and when I got there it was dirty and they said all the work was turned in on it and closed out, so the service manager thought it was finished and called to tell me to pick it up. So when I go in for my oil change in about 250 miles they're going to do it. Not a huge deal, I guess. I didn't really want them to wash it anyway.

I did notice when I first turned it on it was a little bit rough and sounded slightly different than usual. That only lasted a very short time and seemed to sound and feel normal after probably the first two or three stoplights. She did seem much more "spunky" than she did before. It's either that or because I just finished driving a Camry with no power. LOL That thing couldn't hardly climb the hills by my house. I'd start out at the bottom of the hill at 60 and by the top the pedal is all the way to the floor and I was only going a maximum of 40 (Bella flies up them no problem and so did my mom's MPV and now Tribute). Plus the transmission in it was really rough and seemed to hesitate a lot when it changed gears or extremely hesitant when you'd give it gas. Of course, there was a light on saying "maintenance required" and some other light I didn't recognize, so I think there was something wrong with the car. I pointed it out to the guy at Hertz and he said it was overdue for an oil change (had a little over 8000 miles on it). I just know I hated that care and am very happy to have Bella back.

Devildog - your dealer can book an appointment and do the work regardless of the letter. In fact, MNAO reps have confirmed this when other members called w/the same Q.
Thanx for the info. I'll have them do it when i take it in for the 15K service. Currently 12.5k

I notice that many people change their oil every 3K, the Manual actually say's to do it every 5K. Is their a particular reason your doing it at 3K?

Old habits die hard I suppose. It really depends on your driving style as to how long you should go between oil changes. Since the 8 demands that you drive it hard I feel that 3,000 miles is a good way to go. My experience has been cars last the longest when they are washed frequently, and you keep all the fluids fresh.

I know those of us out here in AZ where we see surface temperatures of close to 200 degrees and ambient air temps between 110 and 115 during the summer, changing your oil in your 8 every 3k is necessary if you drive it nearly every day. My 8 is my only car so I'm redlining it almost daily.

Still, even with synthetic oil you could go 5k miles with no trouble. I haven't seen any data showing benifits of 3k as opposed to 5k but if anyone has something like that I'd like to see it.

2004, recall done a few days ago.
Like others, I never got a recall letter from Mazda, just the warranty extension.
Passed, well within parameters. Replaced 2 plugs & reflashed. 5 miles driven.
"Could not duplicate on brake squeal". I'll be damned if I can't anymore either.
No fancy clean-ups/detailing around here.
In and out in 4 1/2 hours.

If you have the manual car with the "high power" engine, the dry capacity of the lubricating system is 7.1 qts. Note in the attached image that an oil and filter change requires only 3.7 qts refill, leaving over 3 qts of old oil in the oil coolers and lines. So after the oil change you end up with about a half and half mix of old and new oil.

You can drain a little more than that with the proper procedure (check out the DIY section), but there will still be several qts of old oil left in the system. That's reason enough to change the oil more frequently than what Mazda recommends.

My dealership recommends I do it every 3000 miles. I have no problem with that, especially since it doesn't cost me a thing.

I can say first hand... I got a new motor. 2 actually. They were for the same thing, but the 1st time was before the recall. My 2nd one was right before the recall was officially released. I keep in contact and know that they have swapped several motors and cats. They replace more cats than anything.

Thanx for the info. I gues I'll start doing it every 3K. It only cost about $30.

I just got back from the dealer after having the recall performed. Overall, my experience was O.K. I dropped the car off around 8:30AM. There was really no waiting and they had a loaner lined up, ready to go (although it was a Taurus ) I was told it would be done today and they would call me when it was complete. My invoice states that 2 spark plugs were changed (N3Z4-18-110) and PCM flash performed. My gas was topped off, (3/4 tank + ) but they didn't clean the car at all. I'm pretty impartial about that, as I'd prefer to wash it anyway, but they should've asked. I decided to not make a stink, since I was in a hurry, and was satisfied enough with the $30 in gas. So overall, I'm happy, but not blown away.

Other details:

cat. inspected
checked tires, brakes, battery
"multi-point" inspection
