Grr Mazda make this recall offical damnit I wanna rub it in some peoples faces and laugh like Nelson of the Simpson's grrr....

lil side note.. um checking the oil is the first thing I did when I got home with my 8. Had to make sure they didnt overfill or underfill my oil. For this man I highly suggest you read this boards like the FAQ's it helped me out alot.

Zoned you happy they are releasing your MazdaSpeed Chinchilla? haha

He said that had worked for mazda in canada, and when my dealer told me I would need to manually add in oil every 2 fill-ups it was bullshit.

Now I hear about this recall. Could it be my oil change guy knows more about my car than my dealer?

The car has hardly any miles on it. i'm afraid i'll pass the test but run in to a problem down the line. I understand why a remanufactured engine isnt the best bet, but it would be better than keeping this one and finding out a year (or worse, a few years.. after warranty) that there was a major problem.
This is the reason that people are worried about the remanufactured engines.

I was thinking about buying a RX8 over the 350Z sometime in Oct, but after reading all this I think I mite go with the Z, holy problems batman. Oh well I always got my TII to keep me company when I get lonely for a rotary. To bad, was looking forward to turboing it in Jan. BAD Mazda!

we are getting off track here because nothing you have mentioned has anything to do with the recall. im just in shock.

Well, it was a month and a half after buying the car, but I had only had it a couple weeks....

When I first got it, they realized an ABS sensor was off, so i had to bring it back two days after i picked it up. They were hoping to take it from a floor model, but apparently the regular RX-8 sensor wasnt compatible, so they had it a couple days in order to get the part....

...but then they said it wasnt the sensor, and they had to order / replace the entire ABS system.

So eventually I got it back, and had it for a couple days before the battery drain problem came up (they switched out my alarm for that one). It eats up a lot of days with loaners. So I had maybe had my car for about a month when I checked.

As far as the question about it being a floor model - the car wasnt from the dealer I got it from, they had to have it brought over from another location. (basically two stores owned by the same people) It wasnt a display at the place I got it from, but it's unclear where it was at the other loc.

So did Nissan ever figure out why Z's go though tires in 5000 miles?

But seriously, With a recall involving mass engine rebuilds, Mazda is literally betting a ton of money that the engine problem is really solved. This is the best news for the Rx8 since summer hit Vegas in '04.

Now, go read through the Z forum, and then pick another car to buy, and repeat

My car is in at Mazda right now and the lead service tech at Kings Mazda in Cincinnati, OH called me to inform my car would be ready on Thursday (in for a/b light). I told him I heard of a recall coming and he said we usually get wind of it before they do, but he would see what he could find out. Today he called me and said that he asked around and they have are prepared for this and Mazda will probably send out notices based alphabetically by names or something similar to come in for testing. He also said he wasn't surprised at all.

Congrats on your 8 and I hope you have fun with it. It's just that everyone needs to calm down, relax and wait until Mazda officially announces this before speaking with your dealer. Get all the details first before assuming. Everyone is making this bigger than it is. Negativity will always be more popular than positivity.

So I have a general question after reading what seems like a novel from this thread =). I am sure it was mentioned, but i might have glossed over it from a brain cramp... So with this recall, Mazda is betting that they have really solved the problem of the engine failure... but what is we get our cars tested and it passed, then a year later, experience these same symptoms... will Mazda then continue to do additional engine replacements on a case by case basis?>?? I truly hope that this is the answer we are looking for from Mazda.

Thanks Tirminyl! And I understand, but please realize that I didn't go in expecting any info on the recall my dealer volunteered that information. I just mentioned to him I read an article about it. I never asked him to check around. I am not trying to be negative or anything. Love the 8 after making the jump from a 350Z I am 100% satisfied.

Oh boy

I am so very happy that my Mazda dealership was such a sleeze and that as a result I traded my 8 for an s2000; but I really do enjoy reading these threads.

zoom, what if the symptoms persist after the warranty ends... will they still replace the engines a year from now? Sorry to sound paranoid, but just curious

Not really. I was going for the 350Z at first then read alot of good and bad. A friend who has had both 350z and the rx8 said that if I liked the FC, I would love a turbo'd RX8. So I looked into it and found that for me the best would be the RX8.

I came to the forums looked around at all the stuff people were saying and watched the topgear review, etc. I have a shop 1 hour away that does very good tuning work with rotaries in the 8(same shop who did the tuning for my old FC) and done a ton of research on the matter for over... say a year now after having my 1990 FC started fianlly giving me small probelms after about, say an odd 3 years of owning it, with my new job and extra cash I wanted to get something newer. So you can see it's not at all like I just register on forums, jump in, and say "your car sucks" then leave. I read every single post in this and it's not the recall that got me, it was how many engines people have gone through. That is also me guessing everyone who has had these probelms and posted know how to take care of a rotary and don't dog it out or treat it hard like it had pistons.

Hopefully they get all this fixed. I just hate to spend all the money and all the monthly payments for a car when right when I add a small bolt-on such as an exhuast, that the next day the seals don't break, the engine mounts break, oil leaking, and the ECU flash code error translate to "Your gay, lol." all in one day...

You're right. All cars should be perfect. I forgot that they made perfect cars.

Talk to one of the service managers at Tustin Mazda (Gilbert) and asked him if he's heard of a recall of all RX-8's for engine failures and he said only on the Autos. Maybe I asked the wrong question.
