they import them from Japan, so that explains why u don't see their "local" numbers.

how I know? friend has one in Hong Kong another one in Macau, and he has a lot of "GT-R" friends all over Asia.

When I look into the history of the rotary engine, it seems like enthusiasts have been freaking out about the 'death' of the rotary engine ever since the first rotary engine car came into existence.

But one way or another Mazda has managed to keep manufacturing cars with rotary engines for the past 40 plus years. Obviously, Mazda has not designed/sold one car after the other back-to-back, but history has confirmed there will be another car with a rotary engine.

So I don't understand all the drama here!

That's basically the point pistonhater

The people saying that the rotary can't/won't/shouldn't survive don't realize they are just repeating the same song from the pages of history. And Mazda is still ignoring them.

Wasn't the RX-7 produced consistently between 1978 and 2002 in Japan? Yes I understand that there hasn't been a rotary powered car available in the US between 1995 and 2003, but the main point is that it was available elsewhere. Right now there is no rotary powered car available worldwide. Besides this fact, I don't worry about Mazda stopping development on the rotary. I truly believe we will see a new rotary powered car in the future, but it may not be for 5 years.

They have until the end of 2013 to produce a car with a rotary in it to keep that alive.

And it may not be a primary power plant, but technically their streak will indeed remain alive if they produce a car with it as the generator for a series hybrid. Plenty of discussion around that as well. Also possible for them to start up the assembly line for "just one more special edition RX-8" in the calendar year.

I wouldn't applaud them for it, but there is still quite a bit of time for them to keep the streak alive through a technicality

I would say they probably have something in house already, but mazda's current financial situation does not allow them to take any risk.

The last displacment increased happened 30 years ago and i gotta say last time they did that, they smoked everything on the market.at the time, and 13b continue to do fairly well. Its really the hate and stupid so called reviewers that praise cars like brz thats slower and has engine problems but stomp on a rotary even its faster with less problems

The first person I heard put down the BRZ was a Subaru dealer!

He said he the entire supply that his dealership was granted (8 cars) was bought up before the first one hit the lot, though. It's kind of dumbfounding.

Thanks for the correction. I meant to say we haven't had a rotary powered car back-to-back here in the US.

I really hope Mazda waits a little longer because I would love to be able to keep my 40th a little longer

If Mazda released a new RE car next year, I would really struggle not wanting to buy right away! - while still owning my 8.
