Wow, look how few Miatas they've sold. That's surprising.

Maybe not so surprising.. Miatas are an aging design, while the 8's and 6's are fresh. Just a guess.

Cool. I wonder why there was a 27%+ drop in 8 sales October to October?

-27.4%

I believe the month to month percentage drop may be attributed to the fact that in Oct'03 the 8 had just arrived was available for only a few short months while demand was naturally higher. The enthusiasts/cultists got them first and now its the folks/bargain hunters who are learning about the 8 through this site and word of mouth that are picking them up.

Even the Year-to-Date numbers for the Miata are low -- only 8,000 sold worldwide the whole year. I wish the RX-8 numbers were that low -- I like my car to be RARE!

Let's see, 55 percent of Mazdas were sold outside Japan. About 29,000 RX-8's have been sold worldwide. This means about 16,000 RX-8's were sold outside Japan. How many of those do you suppose went to the U.S.?

Hate to bring this up but the goal for the 8 is 2500 p/m or about 30,000 for 2004. Seems a bit short of that.

Is the goal 30,000 for the model year or the calendar year? If for the model year, add in 03 sales numbers.

Calendar year. They we're expecting 15,000 for 2003 and I believe hit the goal.

Hmm, not according to that chart. More like 8,000 in 03, unless they sold another 7,000 in November and December (unlikely).

You know alot of people say I hope 8's cant be found all over the place...yada yada yada...but you do know that if Mazda does not sell enough 8's we are all in trouble right (I know most of you have one already) but I want to see improvements in the car and I want to see it grow and grow

Thumbs up Miata Coupe

Cool. That must be the European Miata...

Aren't all U.S. Miatas/MazdaSspeed Miatas standard convertibles?

There's an option to have a hardtop colored the same as the body but those pics obviously show it as a solid chassis design.

As the TopGear host would say: "Nice Coupaaay."

No, the Coupe was a very limited edition Japan-only model. The body panel tooling they used for producing the coupe was only capable of limited production and could not be used for more than they made; high-volume tooling would have been waaaay too expensive.

Gordon

That's sweet. The only Miatas I've seen in the U.S. are ragtop. Man, if they had mass produced that car for the U.S. market and sold it for the same price as the ragtop, they could have made a killing in the low-end sports car market. That car is beautiful.
