I'm sure this AutoSpies "RX-7" photo has been beaten to death...

A quick search didn't reveal it for me, though, so in case I'm not just missing it, here's a "photo" of the new RX-7 from Auto Spies...

looks good

best looking "spy shot" yet. but why is it they expect it to be just above 280hp to compete with competition that is curretly on the market? (i.e. 350z)... after hearing rumors that mazda has been trying to follow the development of the next GT-R, i would assume that the nissan awd beast would be the next 7's performance matchup. . .

Lets see here: the pic looks good, the weight is maybe 2,800-2,700 lbs and we have 280 hp. 400 lbs less than the competition, the same power and better looks. I don't see a 350Z as competing too well with this machine. I'll take one right now!

I think more likely than not, since this car won't be released for a few years, that it will hover into the 300 horsepower range.

I believe that you can't have flip up HIDs, so mazda had to ditch the idea. They are also more expensive, heavier, and create more drag when up.

As for the factory turbo, I'd rather take 300 HP N/A over forced induction 300 HP. We all know how Herc feels about this , so i figured I'd have to mention it.

...actually Fab 8 posted the link back around 5/29 ...

RX-8 Forum > General Topics > Lounge > New RX-7?

https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...5&pagenumber=3

But don't feel bad, this forum has a ton of info to go through and see ... let alone keep track of all this great information ...

And it's happened to me before - I've done a search for something and nothing comes up in my search, but later someone else points out that it's already been around ...

...Anyways, check out the above link, there's other concept sketches to see, if you haven't seen them before.

:D

Of the drawings of posible future RX-7s, that yellow one has to be the best looking... O.k., so the rear end looks like an MR2 and the front does smell a bit like Civic, but the middle bit looks really RX-7-ish!

Cheers

i have to disagree. Almost nothing about that concept relates to the rx-7. Maybe this is why its only a cartoon drawing. There is another pic goin around that resembles the 7 much better.

Do you have proof of this. The general consensus is that the pop ups got killed. Just b/c it aways did doesn't mean the next model will. Hell i think the C6 vette is ditching the popups for ferrari style lights.

Now what the should do is have pop-down lights. Where the lights themselves are fixed but a door drops down from in front of the lights. I know i've seen this on very high end cars (possible bugatti).

NO NO NO NO NO !!!!!!

POP UP'S IN !!!!!!!!!!!

The RX-7 has always had them so why mess with perfection.

These new lights are coming out are rude.

I think Pop-up with twin xenon projectors would be the go and the indicator should be something a little innovative and different maybe rotor shaped somewhere on the car.

Just a thought.

Cause non-pop ups are as ugly as chelsee clinton -hehe :P

Personally I think pop-ups add unnecessary weight and complexity, but it's just a matter of taste. However I swear I read something about a new crash safety requirement in Europe that will kill pop-ups for new cars. If that's the case then it makes no sense to design a new headlight assembly just for Europe. That means no more pop-ups

The RX-7 will be built as always for the Japan Market so Euro crash regs really mean a thing.

Also they will change the headlights if need be.

The Mazda 6 has 3 different head lights as does the RX-8.

Simple Halogen - All markets low spec.
Simple Xenon - JDM Low specs
Blackout Xenon - JDM High Spec

So changing headlight assemblies won't be hard I mean its pretty simple for Mazda's robots and technicain to put a light assembly in

I would think that to change from pop-up to regular would require considerable more modification than changing from halogen to xenon headlights. For instance, I would love to see how a die-hard pop-up fan could change the headlights to pop-up on the newer NB miata. Yeah, I'm sure it's possible, but it's gonna be expensive.

A Miata or MX-5 isn't made with pop ups anymore so it would be more difficult.

However a NSX, RX-7, S-13 Silvia etc which has Pop-ups as standard will be easy to change to non-pop ups.

Like the projector kits for the FD are easy to install.
