Fate of the Cougar Ace Mazda cars.

All 4700 of them destroyed. Mazda took the high road on this one unlike BMW (similar case), I can't understand why Mazda couldn't salvage things like the catalytic converters, alloy wheels, headlights etc. It's an insurance thing I suppose and partly to avoid any litigation....

That's exactly why. They can't collect insurance money and then make profit on those parts.

Poor cars. They never had a chance to live their life to the fullest. Let us have a moment of silence, and then drink some beer.

And yet here we in the western world preaching recycle, renew, reclaim.... what hypocrites. At the end of the day, it's the litigious society we live in.

Well, think of it this way, at least all the cars were strapped down at the time or else the whole ship would had flipped.

It's too bad they have to completely destroy them, especially since I live in the Portland area. I'm sure there are lots of good parts to salvage.

Mazda could do other things to protect their name than that. Oh well, it seems like that was the best choice.

More than that. The insurance company wouldn't even let cars be given away for non-registered, non-profitable purposes like donations to vocational training. If they were being written off, they had to be scrapped. Period.
