factory Turbo Rumors?

Hey guys,

Is there any news about a Factory turbo rx8? I read on Automobile Magazines web page that there were rumors (that or their mag from this month, lol cant remember), and I was also speaking with a guy at Frys electronics that heard about a turbo rumor also (he saw me buying the Best Motoring rx8 dvd).

So anyone have Turbo news???

Thanks guys

Moostafa29 07-17-2006 10:12 PM

Its already out dude, you didn't hear?

toxin440 07-17-2006 10:19 PM

its only going to cost $2000 and its going to give 325 horses to the wheels at 7PSI

:lol2: :lol2: :lol2: :lol2:

Razz1 07-17-2006 10:22 PM

Why would they do this when they have a factory SC sitting in the showroom floor?

dillsrotary 07-17-2006 10:34 PM

its been a rumor for awhile, no official news yet. (sorry, had to tell him)

zoom44 07-17-2006 10:42 PM

well its true that there is a rumour. and the rumour is coming from Mazda. im serious. they are building up to something. there is this buzz/low level noise like going on. its coming from everywhere. like a groundswell. rgonza even checked with his "people" and got a vibe about it. its like they arent saying "no" any more . people are saying " i havent heard that" with a smile. i said to a couple people now- there is more to the timing and placement of 7stock then meets the eye. i think they are up to something. perhaps a sneek preview / oops you werent supposed to see that kinda leak to kick off a media buzz heading into the LA auto show 3 weeks later.

of course it could all be wrong- its more of a feeling than anything in concrete. it just like when your birhtday is comign up and people are preparing a suprise party for you. you see people talking out of the corner of your eye but you never get to hear what they are saying so you are suspicious. just like that.

66Racer 07-17-2006 10:58 PM

Yeah, well I guess it wont be anytime soon then huh, hopefully 2008 or mid 2007. Guess buying now wont be such a bad idea then, my luck they will announce the turbo rx8 the day after I buy an NA one, lol

What Im curiouse is if they do it, what changes would be made to the Renisis engine for OEM quality+smog, oh well, we'll see

****To the immature posters------If your gonna lie about turbo and supercharger rumors at least make them sound believable, shows how much you know about cars, I guess some people dont have anything better to do

zoom44 07-17-2006 11:00 PM

its not immaturity. its just horsing around.

kartweb 07-17-2006 11:36 PM

I like the rotary it's really smooth, but after driving my CX-7 I wonder if Mazda should consider something like a CX8 with the 2.3 Turbo - don't grimmace until after you've driven the CX-7 a few weeks. You'll know why.

zoom44 07-17-2006 11:42 PM

cx stands for crossover utility. mx stands for their piston powered sporty cars. rx stands for theri rotary powered sport cars. Mazda(1,2,3,4,5,6) etc are for their "bread andbutter" segment cars. so you want them to build a new crossover??? or do you mena you think they should build a coupe with the 2.3l disi turbo engine? cause thats already in the works, at least the 2.3disi without the turbo. with the turbo it would be a mazdspeed car

Japan8 07-18-2006 12:08 AM

We'll see how the MS3 matches up against the GTI, Caliber SRT-4 and Civic Si, but 2.3 DISI with no turbo is NG for a sports car (unless it's a Miata). Unless this car is as light as an Elise... it's going to be too slow.

Mazda needs a "regular" MS model lineup... not just a one or two year only deal to compete with this market segement (the above mentioned cars).

TragicallyHip 07-18-2006 12:26 AM

Yeah kartweb, I like the CX7, can't say i'm really IN LOVE with the style of it, but I MUCH prefer it to the look of the Nissan Murano.

There is a nice Copper Red Mica with Sand Leather CX7 in the driway right now and I have to say that I certainly like the way it drives. Very nice vehicle indeed.

I haven't had as much seat-time in that as I did in the MS6, but I think if I were to drive it more I would probably have an even greater appreciation for it. I found myself thinking that if someone were in the market for that style of vehicle, they would almost have to buy it.

I've heard for quite a while that there is heavy talks about a factory turbocharged RX8 in the future, and although i'm not one to listen to rumours usually, I heard the same thing about the MS6 and MS3 from him before they were confirmed aswell, but it may have just been 2 lucky educated guesses :mdrmed:

I just needa get my hands on an MS3 and MX5 now and i'll have whored myself through the whole new Mazda family :yesnod:

When I saw this thread at first I thought it said "factory tumor". That is all.

rotary crazy 07-18-2006 09:36 AM

I heard 22% increase in power thats 51 hp more( over the 232 mazda claims) I dont think they can do this without FI or a 3 rotor NA .

Red Devil 07-18-2006 09:44 AM

3 rotor would be nice, but we've discussed that before.

rotary crazy 07-18-2006 09:46 AM

need the link, my memory its no really good

devious12 07-18-2006 09:57 AM

Yeah I was at the Mazda dealer and the corporate rep was there about a month ago. I was asking about Mazda installing an aftermarket turbo, she said to wait, they had a twin turbo 400hp RX8 in concept...

Just look for the guy with a blue face in the back of the room, that will be me holding my breath.

After the FD, I can't imagine them doing another twin turbo.

Edit: Also, what I'm really interested in is not their forced induction at all. Since I already have a RX-8, what I really want to see is will there be:
lower compression rotors
less cast iron, more aluminum
transmission choice
etc...things that can be adapted to my current car

I was thinking the same thing.

Rotary Rasp 07-18-2006 10:36 AM

I always thought that they were two keys to our cars, a lower powered set for the kids and a high powered set for adults. Mazda just gave us the wrong keys :)

Zoom, is it kind of like the "chatter" the U.S picks up right before they raise a threat code to orange?

Think of it more like the "chatter" that occurred right before the attack on Pearl Harbor -- there's something big coming!!

zoom44 07-18-2006 11:19 AM

apologies to rotor crazy i mentioned rgonza earlier when really it was rotor crazy who had heard some things too. this thread here

zoom44 there you go getting my hopes up again w/your feeling of mysterious announcements and surprise b-day parties pre-La show. I would think re-newing the car @the 4 yr anniversary ~Jul07~ would be appropriate, wouldn't you? Early adopters warranties would be expiring just then in time to 'early-adopt' yet again!

The real ? is, how soon can we pre-order :yesnod: (again)?
