^ 95% of the people on this site or others wouldn't be able to get within 3 seconds of these lap times, so "big difference" is relative.

Obviously reading comprehension wasn't a great subject with you eh? I'll try again...with 95% of drivers it isn't a big difference...capice?

Lets try this again... What the hell does the fact that most people on this forum won't be able to get around a track as fast as the professional driver have to do with the fact that 3 seconds is a huge difference on one lap of a track? My reading comprehension only sucks when people forget silly little things like logic, reason, and following a topic. By the way, thanks for pointing out the startling revelations that things are relative (:Eyecrazy: ) and and that most people here aren't as fast as professional drivers. Have you ever considered becoming a philosopher?
Again, for people like you who think and talk in absolutes, it’s worth noting that 3 seconds wouldn’t mean squat to 95% of drivers on a large and technically challenging track like Laguna. If it was autox – sure it’s a big diff. But it isn't a "big difference" for your everyday schmoe who buys hese cars, unless you're a bench racer of course. You don’t have to get all bumhurt Ike that a MS3 or a Mini was about 3 seconds off your mighty Evo. |
Yeah, I'm getting "bumhurt" about the Evo finishing 4th behind some very expensive and impresive cars, while it's clear that you're not bothered at all about the RX-8 not even being invited to the party. I don't give a shit what track we're talking about in the US under 2 miles and what driver skill we're talking about, 3 seconds is a big difference. Find me one person here that has actually driven on a track to agree with you.

I pwn professional drivers.

I actually agreed with their judgement. While the RX-8 handles well, it's certainly not the razor edge that the S2000 is, which is a better setup for a racetrack shootout like what MT had. Sure the RX-8 won the comparo against the S2000 awhile back, but that was a full scale comparo and this is just a handling test. The RX-8 might be forgiving, but the S2000 is the superior racetrack car and deserved to be in the test over the RX-8.

There, I feel better. I'll just start giving in to your greatness from now on. |
^ actually...can't resist...
Your average driver, or even an advanced driver with some semblance of handling dynamics, will likely be 8 to 12 seconds off the time their car is capable of at a track like Laguna - which only goes to prove that the best modification is usually a drivers own skill. Even once said driver can pull consistent times, they'll usually get stuck at a time they can't advance from since they aren't even aware of the errors they are making, unless they get lots of professional instruction and significant seat time. Buying something that's 3 seconds a lap faster doesn't mean that their times will reduce by those same 3 seconds. Their time may reduce by a fraction of those 3 seconds, or even go the other way, but that's all contingent of the accessibility of that cars performance. I see it all the time in the bike world, guys buying faster 1000cc sportbikes only to see worse laptimes then their previous 600cc bikes. |
so they left out an 8, they also left out a Radical, a Westfield, and an Ariel Atom just to name a few, any of which would completely annihilate anything in their comparo with ease, if you really wanted a best handling comparo, where's the elise? where's the caterham? Panoz? what, no Ultima GTR? pffffft, they left out ALOT more than just the 8, so who gives a shit if the s2k and evo made the cut or whatever, the whole thing seems pointless anyway. (as pointless as arguing about it)
