Car and Driver rx-8 turbo blurb
This months Car and Driver has a small article stating that Mazda is working on a higher power version of the 8 and that it will use an electrically assisted turbo ala hydrogen 8, so that it can meet emission. Said to expect to see it at the 05 Tokyo show.
Sorry if this is a repost. |
Question:
What month is the 2005 Tokyo Auto Show? |
HINTS OF WHATS TO COME FOR THE 8
DSPORT MAG HAS A SIMILAR ARTICLE THAT SPEAKS OF THE UNLEASHING THE POWER OF THE 8 VIA THE CPU. IT WILL ENHANCE THE PERFORMANCE GRATLY!! BE ONE THE LOOK OUT FOR MORE DETAILS.

Tokyo Motor Show
Wow.
This really blows. If the latest issue of Car & Driver is correct about the new RX-8 not debuting until the Biennual Tokyo Motor Show, we are talking about OCTOBER OF 2005 here! Damn! |
I just got a return phone call back from a gal at MazdaSpeed in Los Angeles telling me that "yes", it is true that the 2005 Tokyo Motor Show is not until OCTOBER of 2005, and that "no" it is not cut in stone yet that there will be an electric turbo on the RX8 that debuts at that time, as the recent issue of Car & Driver states.
I'll be back with another report on this, after the weekend. |
they may just come out with a suprise at the january auto in japan or Detroit mazda is know for doing that . they did it with the miata and the mazda3 .

J-Apex
I hope you are right!
I will be speaking with a sales manager that chats with a senior "operational" rep for Mazda of North America sometime this next week . . . Hope to learn more. Stay tuned! |
Saw the blurb also today. Gonna sticky this and likely move it to Tech Garage when the details get leaked. ;)
|
i doubt we can trust anything mazda says in response right now. nevertheless, that electric turbo would be real cool. and even if it does debut in october 2005, it wouldn't really be that late as far as the car's life cycle is concerned...it'd just suck for us to wait that long

hey how r yaa
|
Doesn't is suck when you are wrong Lemans? As I recall the last time I read a post of yours you swore up and down that the 05' 8 would have turbo in excess of 300 hp and few other ridiculous options. You were also ofended by the name "dude" when I responded that you were wrong about what I see were now assumptions about the up and coming 8. So this one's of for you; sucks to be you and be wrong at the same time dude!
For all of you that don't know what I'm talkign about just look up one of his previous posts. He has the bad habit of posting things which he dreams of apparently and then claims he spoke to a some rep . |
Yo, Duuuuuuuuuude.
The Mazda rep still stands by what he said to me earlier, and the gals that answer the phone at Mazdaspeed aren't really known for going out on a limb and stating anything specific. If you want to believe Car & Driver . . . be my guest. ***moderator edit*** |
Do I sense a flame war coming?
|
Yeah, I guess I was totally WRONG about the Mazdaspeed 6 coming out towards the end of this year, complete with All-Wheel drive and 280 HP too!
:p |
As for the "turbocharged/supercharged" RX-8, I guess I was wrong about that too, or did I not read the blurb from the recent issue of CAR & DRIVER correctly???
Go figure! |
There was a Mazda Dealer's Meeting held today in San Francisco. Perhaps there will be some new info on coming models.
Stay tuned. |

Scroll down towards the bottom of page, just after the Elise. Hearing that the 2005 Mazdaspeed 6 will be availible at your dealer ths coming November with a 2.3 liter turbocharged engine, 280 HP, AWD with 18" Racing Harts. Rumor has it that an official announcement will be in early September. |
WHY get the 8 when you can get that.... idiots mazda they shoulda brought out the 8s first!
|
I just got the July Car & Driver and it says...
A new member of the rotary club Mazda is working on a more powerful RX-8 that will boast a newly developed electrically assisted turbo-charger. The electrical turbo was chosen over a solely exhaust gas driven turbo becuase the electrical unit is able to meet increasingly stringent emissions regulations. Mazda plans to unveil the turbo RX-8 at the Biennail Tokyo show in 2005. |
Paulie, isn't that what the very first post on this thread said?
Where have you been, buddy? :D |
LOL^^^
|
Sorry guys . . .
But there is no news from the latest dealer meeting in San Francisco, and my "contact" at Mazda of North America has totally "buttoned-up" when it comes to talking about the RX-8. He'll talk about the delivery date for the Mazdaspeed 6, and the specs of the 6, but when it comes to the RX-8 . . . he dummies up. Looks like Mazda might be afraid to "tip their hand" too early in regards to the competition. |
so what're the real specs of the mazdaspeed 6?
so can we take their tight lipped-ness to mean that something is indeed up their sleeves in regards to a hotted version of the 8? |
OK back to the thread. If it happens hope it will be a retrofit as well!
