Hey guys. Just got my January 05 issue of C&D today and happy to say the RX-8 made the 10 best list again this year. Here's the whole list:

Luxury Sedan - Acura RL
Sports Sedan - Acura TSX
Luxury Sports Sedan - BMW 3-series/M3
Performance Car - Chevy Corvette
Full-Size Sedan - Chrysler 300/300C Hemi
Wagon - Dodge Magnum
Muscle Car - Ford Mustang GT
Family Sedan - Honda Accord
Sports Coupe - Mazda RX-8
Luxury Sports Car - Mercedes SLK350

 

Nice! And some pretty good cars didn't make the cut (STi, EVO, 350Z, G35, S2K etc.)

C&D's 10 Best list is one of the hardest list to get on, and STAY ON for more than 1 year (says a lot about the consistent quality of the 3 series and the Accord). Congrats to our car! lol

 

Interesting to see the RL on there.

 

I'm more surprised the G35 and S2000 weren't on that list. They're both good sports cars for the money, and the EVO and STi are more like super niche cars to ever be on Car & Driver's Ten Best Cars. Congrats to Mazda, and all its RX-8 owners, including myself.

 

I'm not surprised those weren't there....I've read a few bad things about the quality of the G35, in addition to the price(for some reason Infiniti dealers don't give you anything, they want to sell way OVER the sticer price)....S2000 is also a niche car, there's probably already more RX-8's on the road than S2K's....That Acura RL is looking like a badass car...

 

Great news for the 8. Yet, wish I could get the "performance car" here in Sing...

 

Is this the first year in a long time were they created a TOTALLY separate class for "MUSCLE CARS" ??? What was it going up against?

 

^probably the Z and the GTO, and any other big engine, heavy, RWD coupes :D

Waitaminit here... where's the category of just plain ol' "Sports Car"? They have LUXURY sports sedan and just plain Sports Sedan, but all they have for sports car is LUXURY sports car. Where would cars like the S2000 and Miata be included in that list??? They're certainly not "Sports Coupes".

But I'm glad the 8 is getting the recognition it deserves. It's funny -- now that mine's been wrecked I'm considering replacing it with either the Magnum RT or the Mustang GT. I must have good taste. :D

The G35 and the S2000 were on the 10 Best list last year (as was the RX-8), but slipped off this year. The 350Z and WRX were on the 2002 list, but have not made it back since. Let's hope the RX-8 can make it 3 in a row next year as well.

Man, but the 3 Series/M3 is almost like a given. Can't think of a year it wasn't on the list, even dating back to the mid-90's with the previous gen e36 models.

 

Surprised no Audi S4's on the list!

 

The S4 Quattro made it on the list in Jan 04...nice to see it removed from the 05 list

Good try, but that's the 2004 10 best list. I was like, I read this RX8 article already.

The 2005 list will probably be posted on the their website in Jan 05. I'm going to the library this weekend (BN or Borders) to take a lookie at the whole mag.

Oh yeah! Page 65 of the January Car & Driver's annual Ten Best feature. The RX-8 is in the "10 Best Cars" and is listed at the "Best Sports Coupe"!
