2011 Mazda RX-8 doesn't deserve footnote status

http://apps.detnews.com/apps/autorev...x.php?id=35708

"The world was just not big enough. That could be the epitaph on the bumper of the 2011 Mazda RX-8. It's the sports car few understood and even fewer loved enough in the end..."

No - every media report is that production has stopped. RX-8 has moved to emeritus status. Sure am glad I got mine when they were alive.

The author of that article definitely has a soul.

Mazda needs a new halo car... The 6 is a sales disaster, the Speed3 sells well but has a "ricer" reputation. What else is left? Maybe they'll make a new Speed6 out of the next-gen, since they finally seem to have the bugs worked out of the DISI.

According to ASH8, it is still being produced for markets such as Japan and Australia (?)

Sad day for rotorheads.

Yes, Mazda needs another Halo car.

Ideally a new rotary, but in teh meantime,
Another Mazdaspeed MX-5 could be a stopgap measure that maintains the Zoom zoom soul.

Sad of course, but I must say that this text is really well written, by someone who knows what is he talking about.

At the end, hope is the last to die

No.
Mazda has already moved other vehicles to the RX-8 production line.
The last one rolled off the line at the end of May.

Finally! A non-ignorant car review of the Rx-8.
Why couldn't this happen years ago?

Mazda needs to put a non turbo rotary into a lighter miata like body. That would be the perfect halo car. A rotary miata coupe would be awesome.

^ I think they called that the FC3S

And the turbocharger made it more fun.

That was a great article. I guess people just don't understand the RX-8 until they drive one.

Excellent article! Makes me want to buy a 2011 RS3, but my 2006 Shinka looks and drives like new at 39,000 miles so no need to.

That was a very well written article.

The playful dog metaphor is perfect for describing this car.

Very precise article, one of the best I've read. He hit all the key points good, bad, with a nice touch of needed humor to keep your mind off the looming dark cloud over the rotary for us owners.
