7 Stock Tech on A/C Issue

Told a tech at 7 Stock 6 about getting blown off by the Alhambra, CA dealer who said my A/C was turning out spec 47 degrees and they couldn't duplicate my "won't get cold, even at 64 degree amb" problem.

The tech said that Mazda USA was aware of the complaint and said that is wasn't that the A/C wasn't capable of getting the cabin cold, but the thermostat is shutting it down too early. This is why, even in 114 amb, the A/C will provide "adequate" cooling, no less than at lower temps.

He gave me a phone number of the Irvine, CA HQ, but I haven't had a chance to contact them. Will advise this thread, upon doing so.

BTW, my 3 previous RX-7s all had more than adequate cooling. I would just jump in and turn up to 4 with top air flow only and recirc until the cabin cooled. Then I'd have to turn down to 1 and top/bottom flow or the cabin would get uncomfortably cold, even at 85 F amb. On cooler days, when I'm just trying to defeat humidity, I'd turn it to 1 with defrost/bottom flow, which would cause the thermostat to think the cabin was colder that it really was and cycle off.

P.S. Just passed 3K and got 20.7 MPG and improving, which is the only thing I'm truely disappointed in. If disabling DSC/TCS and getting an "econo" ECU flash will return the expected 24 MPG, I'll be blown away. All the other customary new model year glitches appear to be fairly minor and "fixable" including the A/C issue, so I think we RX-8 owners really have a winner here!

It's all about the recirculation switch for me.. If it's warm, the AC needs re-circ to cool well enough..

Nope

Not nearly cold enough for Florida. If it isn't on recirculate, it's worthless.

I'm in Florida and the A/C works good, (much colder/faster than my 2000 Celica's was). When it's real hot and humid, say 95 degress and 80+ humidity, start with the A/C on recirculate, then once you get the temperature at a comfortable, level switch to fresh air. You can get the interior temps down quicker by tilting the moonroof up for a few minutes and let the hot air escape.
