Are you happy with your color?

I was dead set on getting a red one, but when I went to the dealer I could only find a Sunlight Silver one equipped the way I wanted. I'm not into ordering one and waiting so I got the silver one. I'm soooo happy that I did!

Rx8Past 02-13-2004 02:58 AM

I wish I could have all the colors. I love the titanium, but its gonna suck if that dark blue or white comes out for 2005. I wish those were color choices when I bought my 8.

Lock & Load 02-13-2004 03:17 AM

Yellow rocks

Japan8 02-13-2004 03:47 AM

I'm thinking about yellow for mine even though Grey or silver are my real favorites... this just so I can name my care "HACHI." Does anyone get the Japanese pun?:D

Lock & Load 02-13-2004 04:05 AM

Hachi = 8????

As i live in a sunny warm climate yellow really is well suited , silver and titanium are more of a winter type colour IMO.

MICHAEL

Jeff_pap31s 02-13-2004 04:30 AM

Totally agree with lock & load! Perfect for Florida!

TM45 02-13-2004 06:18 AM

I wanted grey but accepted Silver and I am very satisfied with it.

sto16 02-13-2004 07:09 AM

Silver the BEST!

Looks MAD....

essentialspeed 02-13-2004 07:30 AM

was set on siver until..

I was set on silver till i saw the "winning blue RX8GT"...
I got lucky, someone ordered the GT took delivery... then one month later fell into finacial problems. The local dealer called me at the shop and told me about the situation..i bought it before it was brought back.

The winning blue looks even great in the snow:-)

WHealy 02-13-2004 07:36 AM

There are other colors besides Winning Blue ??? :)

This seemed appropriate ...

Car color:
What’s it say about you?

Ancient Egyptians believed in chromatherapy, the ability to heal with colors: Red stimulates mental energy, yellow stimulates the nerves, blue heals organic disorders such as colds and hay fever, etc.

Modern car manufacturers believe in a version of the same thing: the ability to sell with colors. Psychiatrists analyzed car-color choices for a survey reported on K-LOVE radio, and here’s what your car color says about you:
Black: First choice of ambitious drivers who want to project an image of success.

Red: You’re outgoing and impulsive with a youthful attitude, but easily bored.

Silver: You have great style and are often successful, but you tend to be pompous.

White: The first choice of doctors and drivers who are reliable and methodical.

Gray: Expresses understated good taste and indicates a safe, cautious driver.

Blue: A team player who’s sociable and friendly, yet lacks imagination.

So, if that’s how the colors break down, just which colors will you see most frequently on the road? According to a 1999 report from Dupont Herberts Automotive Systems, the top sellers in the following categories were:

SUVs, trucks and vans
1. White
2. Black
3. Dark/medium green
4. Dark/medium blue
5. Silver

Full/intermediate-size cars
1. White
2. Silver
3. Light brown
4. Medium/dark green
5. Black

Sport or compact cars
1. Silver
2. Black
3. White
4. Medium/dark green
5. Medium/dark blue

“But wait,” you cry, “where’s red on those lists?”

You thrill-seekers know there’s no other color choice for impact and excitement, and rest assured, red did show up in the Top 10 in those categories. Why not the Top Five? It takes a certain type of personality (as opposed to gender or age) to commit to red, and not every driver is bold enough to go with it.

Car-color trends follow the fashion and decorating world. Hunter green was a popular upholstery and wall accent a few years back, and, big surprise, out came a number of cars — particularly rugged, woodsy wheels like SUVs — in hunter green. I, personally, think it’s anal to match your automobile to your wainscoting, but hey, Martha Stewart’s a bazillionaire, so who am I to judge?

When choosing a car color, however, be sure to consider more than its ability to match your wardrobe. Certain colors require particular care. Keep this list handy when you choose:

White: Although grime looks terrible on a white car, it’s the easiest color to care for.

Black (and other dark colors): These are most susceptible to sun damage because of their heavy absorption of ultraviolet rays.

Red: This also shows sun damage, so keep your car in a garage or shady port whenever possible.

Pearl colors: These are the most difficult to work with. If the paint needs to be re-touched, it must be matched to look right from both the front- and side-angle views.
FYI, bird droppings do a real job on your car’s paint, no matter what the color. Clean bird bombs immediately or live with a near-impossible-to-remove stain.

And while we’re talking about car color, rest assured that no insurance company will cop to charging more for certain car colors — although some drivers of red cars staunchly maintain that they are pulled over for traffic violations more frequently.

If you’re in the market for a new car and you’re thinking about trying a new color, consider my personal favorites:

Luxury car: Any Mercedes in black.

Sports car: A Mazda Miata, and it must be red.

SUV: I’m a Blazer fan, and I like the trendy dark greens.

Family car: A Volvo in silver or tan says slick, but responsible.

Truck: A Dodge in dark blue, solid and strong.

Compact: A new VW Bug in yellow is fun, flirty and easy to find in a parking lot.
Whatever color you choose, wear it with style — and keep it clean. No car looks cool with “Wash Me” scrawled in grime on the side.

RX8_GT 02-13-2004 08:15 AM

Personally I went to the dealer planning on Red - but walked away with Winning Blue. Wha a colour !!!!

The Velocity Red is fine - but would perfer a non-metallic red - such as on my Miata snd SLK320. The porotypes were non-metallic - I believe.

o_town_racer 02-13-2004 08:54 AM

I still look at my Winning Blue and smile.....what a perfect choice!

Mitch Strickler 02-13-2004 09:00 AM

Color choice

My Sunlight Silver shows the lines of the car beautifully. IMO they don't come through as well with dark colors.

Maximus 02-13-2004 09:06 AM

Almost bought the Titanium .. but in the end got the Silver.

*Extremely* happy with it!

Positron 02-13-2004 09:19 AM

After going back and forth on colors for over a week, I finally decided on the NORDIC GREEEN.

I am very, very happy with this color. It appears different in different lighting conditions.

Q121825 02-13-2004 09:23 AM

Winning Blue is THE color for the 8. Everything else looks merely OK (except yellow, which is more failing-liver jaundice than "lightning")

Pavehawk 02-13-2004 09:48 AM

I started with Winning Blue. I then migrated to Nordic Green. But I'm currently awaiting the delivery of my Titanium Gray.

No no that would be too simple.

Hachi= 8

Hachi = bee

:D

Kinda cheezy, but I kinda like that. I'm just afraid that yellow is too attention getting... i.e. like buying a red car... all the cops love you.

FONZIE 02-13-2004 10:00 AM

I'm buying my 8 next weekend and unitl recently, I wanted the silver, but now I'm getting the green. I'm having a bear of a time finding a Nordic Green with black/chapparal interior.........

rxeightr 02-13-2004 10:23 AM

The common theme with almost all the posters is -
Yes, we are happy with our chosen color. I sure am.

JD32 02-13-2004 10:33 AM

Like Lock & Load said, "Yellow rocks"!!!!!!

Keep looking -- I love mine and get tons of compliments on it. Some people think car was much more expensive.

allstate 02-13-2004 01:04 PM

I love my titanium 8, but everytime I see a black one I second guess myself. Black is the best looking car when it is clean, but it is also the hardest to keep clean.

lefuton 02-13-2004 01:27 PM

i'm really happy w/ my yellow. i think it really does take a different kind of person to take on the yellow. really a love/hate thing as far as the people i've spoken to.

the only other choice i would have taken would've been black with red interior but i'm more of a yellow personality anyhow =)

i saw a silver one the other day, and being in sunny socal, it looked phenomenal in the day time. which is another reason i chose yellow, being that it looks really good in bright ilght and it's often bright here.

Genom 02-13-2004 01:27 PM

I originally went to the dealer looking for a black car, but after seeing the gray in person I changed my mind. I still think the black is cool, but to my eye the gray is the best color.

Like vivid said, it looks like a glock on wheels :D

TheTick 02-13-2004 02:29 PM

I bought the Titanium grey which I think looks amazing but my second choice would have been the winning blue. I am happy with my choice but everytime I see a blue I second guess myself hehe.

Shooter 02-13-2004 02:53 PM

I love my Nordic Green since it is apparently the rarest color based on those who frequent this site!

boothguy 02-13-2004 03:00 PM

Whealy's dissertation helped me understand my color choice. I pompously thought that Sunlight Silver was the choice and that nothing else was really in the running. But when I motored on over to the dealership and they had every color but Nordic Green on the lot, it took no imagination at all to see that Winning Blue was the color for me. Although the Lightning Yellow really caught my eye as well.

I was also interested in what people's color choices say about them. I currently own a red car, a white one, a black one, dark blue, a red that's being re-painted dark grey and my pickup's white. Plus my Winning Blue 8. Guess I suffer from Multiple Personality Disorder.

SCiMMiA 02-13-2004 03:04 PM

Seven cars? Are you a dealer, boothguy?

I did the same thing, even preordered black. Went to pick it up, drove it, about to sign the papers, and at the last minute, thought to myself, I'll just take a look at gray. Man am I glad I did. I love it, and it looks SO much better when it's dirty (which is rarely).

boothguy 02-13-2004 03:20 PM

Not a dealer, SCiMMiA - just a guy with more enthusiasm than brains, but a very understanding wife.

You owners of black cars are a brave group - being that they're impossible to keep looking nice for more than 24 hours at a time. One is enough for me...

Elara 02-13-2004 03:41 PM

Green is the best! Never regretted it.

Mitch Strickler 02-13-2004 05:00 PM

Just a small practical thought

Those just learning about the RX8, here in the cold weather season, should know that it has a too-warm problem in summer. The main cause is that the rotary throws off a lot of heat, and, as Mazda always proudly tells you, it is further back (closer to you) for better weight distribution. The trunk also gets warm, which must be from the exhaust. To compound the problem, the AC is adequate at best. Some people have experienced cycling problems, but even without that the capacity is nothing special.

What has this to do with color choice? My Sunlight Silver will bounce back more of the heat from a blazing summer sun than black or Nordic Green.

I think color is only a small part of the heat problem. I am adding extra insulation. There was a thread a way back that identified a JW Whitney product that has reflective aluminum on one side, and 3/8 inch thick insulation. It can be cut to fit easily, and is not very expensive. Also, I intend to bug Mazda next summer, while I am in the first year (adjustments as well as defects) to see if anything can be done to improve the AC. There have been many gripes on the forum, so Mazda may develop some improvements.

But as long as excess heat is a possibility, I'd at least give a little thought before choosing a color that attracts more.

rx8gator 02-13-2004 05:11 PM

Wow, I'm the only one to post that got the Velocity Red. For me, the only color for a sports car. And the metalic is spectacular in the bright Florida sun. She stays in my garage at night, and looks great in my parking lot at work. I park her on one side of the building in the morning, and switch over in the afternoon.

RED ALL THE WAY!!

D MENAC 7 02-13-2004 06:47 PM

RED! RED! I want RED! There's no substitute for RED!

If they made white for us non-Asian countries, it would reflect heat the best of all.

A lot also depends on your interior. Black takes all the heat in from the sun and is the hottest of interiors.

I went RED and never looked back!

rx8gator 02-13-2004 07:08 PM

WOOHOO D. Thank God we finally found this thread. Dark colors are for sedans! RED all the way!

What is the "Unique stock spoiler?"

Takashi 7 02-13-2004 07:52 PM

Nordic Green!
This color gets so many stares and compliments.
An earlier poster mentioned that he had trouble finding a green one with the black/Chaparral interior.
He's right.
This is one of the reasons I had to order mine. The dealer could not find one in this color with the options I wanted.

Monique 02-13-2004 07:56 PM

I'm a lady in red...

i LOVE my velocity red! It was a pain to find with all the bells & whistles i wanted. but after driving a demo for a few days the dealership brought mine to me just the way i wanted & expected. This color is indescribable. If you own one or have seen one in the sun, you know what i mean. The metallic in this shade of red is SWEET! i can't wait to see her shine after my zaino is applied.

JY-8 02-13-2004 08:02 PM

Black!
I was planning to get the tit grey, but i shopped all dealerships, only one dealership had a black available......I didn't want to wait for few months, so i decided to get the it.
I like my black, I think it's more aggressive than the other colours......but just hard to keep clean.

red_rx8_red_int 02-13-2004 10:06 PM

Wow it sure took a while for us red owners to chime in!! I think it's because we are soooo totally satisfied with our choice that we originally ignored this thread until the post count was high enough to signify a thread worth reading (at least that what I did). The Red Rocks!!! No second thoughts at all.

MagnusB 02-13-2004 10:13 PM

Winning Blue it is.

I had the titanium with black/chapparel GT for 4 months, then did the buyback for poor MPG. I am picking up my new 8 tomorrow. I thought- hey, this is an opportunity to rethink things- color, accessories, getting navigation or a spoiler, even test drove the G35 Coupe.

Well guess what, I ended up getting the EXACT same car as I had. I feel boring, but I just loved that combo so much (and I wasn't planning on the chaparel at first- that's all the dealer had coming in in AUgust when I first got it- and when I finally saw the interior- I loved it!!- the interior design was meant to be two tone, but the red was too much for me unless getting the car in red)

Plus I'm 39 and live in Manhattan, so an understated, non flashy yet sophisticated look matched my lifestyle, and it was also the only color my girlfriend liked too.

It doesn't look as good at night in the dark as lighter colors (maybe it's the sodium street lights) - the silver looks great even in the dark, but in the daylight the titanium looks really nice. The only color I dont think looks good is the white... and I love white- I just sold my white Probe GT today- which I loved.

VikingDJ 02-14-2004 01:09 AM

Initially I was planning on buying one to replace my other sports car (Modified and restored 88 Starion), but then the old daily VW took a crap on me, so my color preferences changed. I was set on winning blue as a fun sunday car, but then when daily driving mode set in I chose BLACK. When I went to dealer, they had all the colors with every option, which is what I wanted, and it was so so tempting to go for blue, sunlight silver, or even yellow, but I said stick with your instincts and pick the right color. I'd be there forever choosing and second guessing, so I just had to take my original choice and run with it. Truth is they all ROCK. I am still pondering my decision because i want one in every color, but ultimately I decided I didn't want to be foo flashy for an everyday car, and black fits me perfectly. We all have our own discinct personalities, and the right color is all in the eyes of the beholder.

legokcen 02-14-2004 07:29 AM

I really had my heart set ont he titanium grey, but when I got to the dealership I saw the NORDIC GREEN and fell in love. I waited 2 weeks to order the nordic green the way I wanted it. I love the color and get many compliments on it. I'm so happy I picked that color.

Speed-ER doc 02-14-2004 07:47 AM

About the light/dark heat reflectivity issue:
If your car is out in the Texas sun for a few minutes, it may make a difference. If it is out for a couple of hours, they both will be darned hot, and probably not much different. Choose which color you like, don't delude yourself that silver isn't as hot.

Trx8 02-14-2004 08:42 AM

For our RX-8 we went back and forth on the colors for a while and finally selected the ever changing Nordic Green.

loco4rx8 02-14-2004 08:44 AM

Happy with Winning Blue?

Oh God yes!!! :D

irish98 02-14-2004 05:18 PM

I think all the colors are great. But considering the 8 is a sports car there is no other option besides red. The only other alternative to a red sports car would be the yellow, but I just didn't have the guts to go that bold although it is an awesome color.
Red all the way!

I like my 8 in its clean black, gives me lots of opportunity to wash it.

I felt too old for yellow or red, and everyone seems to have a silver car or titanium car nowadays, at least at my workplace.

I'm 38.
