Yeah Yakima makes a great product. I'm thinking of getting one for my boards.

Here's another thread on the roof racks. https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...ghlight=Yakima

While I have a roof rack for our Forester, and a receiver mount for the Explorer, one will NEVER adorn my 8!!

well that's nice you have 3 vehicles congratulations. on a serious note, I got sick of having to take our Silverado every time I wanted to take my bike. As much as I ride, that was a lot, so I got this rack which not only works, but looks pretty f*cking cool rolling down the road. All I need is someone hanging out my passenger window handing water bottles to the peloton, or wielding an allen wrench making a quick adjustment on levi lepheimer's seat height.
with a guy dressed as the devil running along side.

ok i'm into cycling so sue me !!! :-)

I didn't mean to boast; the Forester is actually my wifes car. Only the Explorer and the 8 are mine. But my daughter will be driving soon, so I guess that our collective "fleet" will number 4 vehicles soon. Besides, looking at the lists of cars some club members list on their sigs, I have nothing to boast about anyway.

I like cycling too, both on, and off-road trail riding. My point was that I wouldn't choose my RX-8 to haul the bikes- that's why we have the 4WD vehicles. Much more room for all the other stuff too (hydration, food, change of clothes, helmets, etc., etc.). For our group of 3, the Mazda would be packed to the gills. Also the other 2 cars can take us to remote trails that the 8 just can't get to.

If you are the only one in the vehicle, then go for the 8 roof rack, Yankee. In that case, it's efficient use of resources. :)

I was just kidding .If all 3 in this family are riding we'll use the truck. I just dont' want to have to when most of my riding is done in groups I travel to ride with, or in triathlons.

Just put the crossbars on... Unfortunately I was unwilling to sacrifice the sunroof functionality for the bike rack and it misses clearance of the rack by about an inch, so I'm going to buy some longer bolts and some sort of spacer to raise the rack from the crossbars. I like the way the crossbars and fairing look.

That does look nice. I want/need one badly as the trunk mount rack I have really doesn't work on the 8.

Before I attempt to conjure up all the $ to buy one I may try the back seat option.

i was thinking roof rack or hitch but didn't want to spoil the looks or drill holes. so got a wheel bag and a bike bag. wheels go in the back seat and the frame goes in the trunk. trunk lid is tied down. i don't mind the 2 min it takes assemble/disassemble my mtn bike.

Doesn't picture belong in the thread "What not to do to your car?"

I was kind of thinkin the same thing, but i've come to the conclusion it's a biker thing. Lazy people like myself think it's not extremely appealing, but if i did bike i suppose i would think it was pretty BA.
