Ah.... Mazdaspeed kit rear does not have any problems. I have large tips, but no issues, because there is enough space.

The normal Mazda rear does not seem to give enough clearance space for large exhaust tips. So you have to figure something out like use metal guards, etc....

FWIW, no issues w/ melting on my RB and I had it hot enough to permanently brand a coworker.

Yup gets hot back there. My friend just got a new exhaust. When he was exiting the freeway he let off the gas and poof poof flames! gased it, let off and same thing! I told him but he could not believe it.

do the metal exhaust finishers help stop this?

also, do the metal exhaust finishers help stop the plastic becoming discolored? mine's going a bit gray.

First time I realized how hot the exhaust tips got was after a bird had **** on my car at a red light. As soon as I got home I took out the hose and started to use the water to wash off the bird **** off the trunk lid. As the water was running down the back of my car I started to hear sizzling and steam. It was the water vaporizing as it hit my Greddy exhaust tips! Quite the sound and sight.
